I've been testing the Hollyland Solidcom M1 wireless digital intercom system for the last 5 weeks. Here is a walkthrough and my thoughts.
►Product Information / Purchase: djp.li/m1intercom
Hollyland provided this system to me at no cost, but I'm not being compensated in any other way for this review, so though this video is marked as being a paid promotion (as required when equipment is provided for free), no money has or will exchange hands. All thoughts discussed are my own, without any influence from Hollyland whatsoever, and they have not been given the chance to review this video before it is being made public.

Hi Doug, thanks as always for another great review. We recently purchased the Solidcom version with Hub. Similar to the m1 its all very rugged and works great, however for us we are going to upgrade to the M1 as the Solidcom headsets pick up too much surrounding noise. We were live streaming motor bike racing for 6 hours and it was a real struggle for both camera crew and vMix director to clearly hear. 3 days later we were indoors and with load music coming from the PA it was again impossible to clearly hear and communicate effectively. What drew me to the Solidcom was the lightweight heads sets and no belt pack. I'm hoping to upgrade to the M1 and I guess wearing a belt pack is something we will just have to live with. Hoping the M1 microphones don't pick up as much of the surrounding noise in the vicinity of the headset.

It’s funny I literally just bought this system and wished I had the chance to get a review unit. Still need to keep growing my channel. Going to post my unboxing on my Corporate Streams channel. One of my biggest purchases. My case was laid out a bit differently.

Thanks for the review. I noticed the belt clips are by default horizontal and you mentioned you can reposition them vertically. Does that inhibit them from sliding in the charging port correctly? Secondly, the 4 wire port; would that be what you would use to connect a line feed inbound and outbound for broadcast announcers? Thanks.
@djp_video
@djp_video 2 жыл бұрын
No, the belt clip does not get in the way in the vertical orientation. The 4-wire port can be used to interface with any line-level audio sources/destinations, like broadcast announcers if their audio is pre-amplified.

Hi! Great review! 3 questions for you: 1) is it also using Dect like t1000? 2) how does the external 4-wire work with the groups? Eg. Can you send different signals from an external source to the different groups? (Edit: after looking through the menu segment again and paying more attention i guess I got an answer) 3) does the headsets also come in a case?
@djp_video
@djp_video 3 жыл бұрын
If it is using DECT it is definitely a different variant with much higher quality than the T1000. I suspect that it is a different protocol. You can assign the 4-wire to any of the three groups. Once assigned, audio from all assigned groups is mixed on the output, and input audio is included in all assigned groups. The headsets come in an case identical to the electronics.

Thanks Doug. I got 2 of the T1000 last year based on my research. I wish this was out then. Does this work with the older T1000?

The wireless portion does not. But you could share audio between them with a CAT5 cable plugged into the 4-Wire ports.

one question, you can connect 2 units together for more channels. but if your 1 unit is 550 m away from the other unit and connected to each other via internet cable. can also be used as a mesh system. that your place of 300m for example 550m (with 50m buffer) can extend the range? same on a wifi mesh system
@djp_video
@djp_video 3 жыл бұрын
Linking is only done via Cat5 cables, so there's no mesh capability. I don't know the range on the Cat5 link (it doesn't say), but I'd be really surprised if it went past 100m. I didn't test it to see if the connection is IP based. If it is, you could use fiber cables to link them. And I can't test that, as I only have one unit.

I think this is really interesting. Watching more of the video's I was wondering 2 things: 1: It seems like the headsets are only with one earcup, is it possible to make them with 2? 2: Would it be possible to add a second base station 500 meters away?
@djp_video
@djp_video 2 жыл бұрын
You could use your own headsets with a TRRS connector. Theoretically if you were to convert the Ethernet output to fiber using a Media Converter, then convert back the other way on the other end, you should be able to make that work. But that distance is much too far for copper cables.

Thank you for the review! Seems like a good product to have if you can justify the $$$$. Appears to use 1.9GHz personal communications service frequencies, so should avoid most interference from WI-FI devices. It's not too far below 2.4GHz, so propagation of 2.4GHz WI-FI is probably a decent indicator as to how this signal will penetrate walls (or not). I guess, in theory, it should propagate slightly *better* than 2.4GHz WI-FI would for the same radiated signal strength?

Hi Doug, thanks for all the great comms related content. I’m trying to link a Hollyland Solidcom M1 system to an Eartec Ultralite Hub system (using 2-Wire XLR). Eartec makes a Hub Interface that is advertised as ClearComm 2-Wire compatible. The Solidcom M1 is also advertised as ClearComm compatible so I figured the Solidcom M1 and Eartec would/should work together. But it’s not and I think I’ve figured out why... Neither the M1 nor Eartec output the needed 30Vdc on their 2Wire jacks. I imagine they’re looking for that voltage from the ClearComm unit. So… am I dead in the water with this duo or are you familiar with any sort of 2-Wire power injector box? I figured you’d definitely know!
@djp_video
@djp_video Жыл бұрын
In a Clear-Com system the power is supplied by a main (base) station. Without that, you won't have any way to communicate between devices. You can pick up used ones for next to nothing if you look around.

Did you measure the latency? Is there an adjustment for the mic gain on the beltpack or base station to balance out soft/loud talkers?

I did not measure the latency. It is much better than the budget digital systems I've used though (Eartec, Hollyland T-1000). There is no mic level adjustment.

On the 2 wire xlr slot am I able to send in audio from my x32 to that input ? Or is that only an output?
@djp_video
@djp_video 5 ай бұрын
2-wire is specifically for use with Clear-com compatible intercom systems. If you want audio from your M1 for your X32 you should use the 4-wire output instead. On the M1 the 4-wire is an RJ45 connection so you'd need to build an adapter to convert it to XLR.
@kiopi94
@kiopi94 3 жыл бұрын
Forgive me if this is obvious But with the 4 wire rj45 to Audio cable that you built, is that analog? I use the ATEM talkback converter 4k and would imagine I could just send the 4 wire to the Headphone and mic connectors on the atem converter
@djp_video
@djp_video 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is analog, line-level audio. If you wanted to connect it to a microphone input on another device you’d need a pad to drop the signal level from line to mic level.

the benchmark for intercoms it is Riedel Bolero at an extremely insane high price tag though. Do you know if it is possible to use external antennas for higher range?

Bolero: 10 beltpacks, 3 antennas, 1 NSA throwdown box, 2 5way chargers and 1 stand alone license. It was right around $50k.
@djp_video
@djp_video 3 жыл бұрын
It comes with the two external antennas out of the box. If you were to substitute your own with higher gain you should be able to get at least slightly better range, but you’re ultimately going to be limited by the power output of the transmitter. 1300 feet is pretty far though using just the internal directional panel antenna. I don’t know of many intercom systems that will go any farther than that to a belt pack.

Riedel has some nice features such as there is no need to use a base stations. You just have to have some antennas and you tap your beltpack and it synchs to it. But we are comparing two differerent beasts ;)

Doug, I want to install one of these into my Church. I'd love if I could run the output "program" audio from our Front of House board into the M1 system so all ops could hear the mix from the board (even going as far to bus output the click track, music director, etc.). Would you do that with the 2 wire port or 4 wire port? Any help would be appreciated as this is probably one of the biggest determining factors into purchasing one of these systems. Thanks!!

Hard pill to swallow, but worth the investment if you are in for the long haul. 1 quick trouble shooting question in which you could perhaps help me. When I ask arch and use the solidcom unit to my wired Clearcom base station. Randomly in the headsets of the clearcom we get a loud, short clicking noise. This is only hear on the wired clearcom, I have tried lifted my the ground in both units’ power, but that doesn’t don’t help. Firmware has also been updated but it also didn’t make a difference. Any thoughts? Guesses? Thanks in advance for any input.

Any thoughts on the difference between the syscom 1000? They are priced relatively similar so keen to know which one is the better one
@djp_video
@djp_video 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't used the Syscom version, but they're pretty similar. I'd go with the one that has the combination of features that you need. The Solidcom has a 2-wire interface and can easily be expanded out to 16 units, for example, whereas the Syscom has a rack-mounted base unit and the base unit can be used as an intercom station.
@shonggie
@shonggie 2 жыл бұрын
@@djp_video Thanks for the thoughts! only issue right now is just there isnt much if any reviews / userfeedback on the syscom, especiallty at the point where im about to drop some solid money between the two systems. the Solidcom still seems like the go to, the only value i see that the Syscom brings is tally, and arugably there are other better ways to do tally. The base station being used as a local intercom is a decent feature if youre building ground up, but i think users would be better off integrating into an older clearcoms wired system. Thanks for the great review though! looks like i have decided what system to go with!
