Good for him standing on truth and conviction, while the sentiment behind the scenes in Hollywood is actually really mixed, that certainly wouldn’t help his career… He got no personal benefit out of it.
@EowynsResolve

Agreed. It was the bravest thing I've seen at an award show in recent memory. If you have the opportunity watch his speech again and look for the portion where the applause is taking place and you can see some are standing and cheering while some are sitting motionless. Definitely not a unified front on this topic in Hollywood.
@dinkster1729
@dinkster1729 3 ай бұрын
@@EowynsResolve It was definitely difficult to understand Glazer's sentiments the first time. You have to read the short speech a couple of times before you get what he means. Maybe, that's why there wasn't more applause at first. Getting an Academy award for best "international picture" should be a career enhancer I would think, but, then, Glazer tells the audience what his film which he also wrote is really about so that's probably a career killer, I would think. The film was produced as a Holocaust film and now, it will be seen as a rebuttal to Israel's actions in Gaza and Palestine more widely.

Hollywood for so many generations made Islamic nations, Muslims to be the sound and voices of "our" villains, that we have generations of people, families afraid of the sound of their language and voice. And the creators have been doing their best to change that narrative, to heal that wound, that trauma that we have carried for such extent. A reminder that great art provides comfort to the uncomfortable, and makes the comfortable uncomfortable. So artists must be reminded of our power and responsibilities with what we produce beyond with what we create

The backlash is strange considering Glazer has done repeated interviews prior to the Oscar’s where he talks about the ‘situation’ in Isreal since its conception. He also mentions other events in history where humans become desensitised either by choice or by conditioning. As he already has a few iconic films under his belt I can’t imagine he will care that much about a Hollywood McCarthism ban. If anything he’s increased his viewership by the millions. Robbie… it’s not against the principles of Libertarianism (or Catholicism) to correctly call out the situation in Gaza as both a probably genocide nor its parallels to the activities at the Holocaust. You’ll be ok.

Martin Amis wrote the novel the movie is based on with a sense of irony and dark humor. The movie captures that exactly. It’s a completely surreal uncomfortable dysfunctional family drama set in the era of Holocaust. The setting itself is so ridiculous that you can’t look at it without irony and humor. Americans tend to take things too literally. Oh well.

How true to the novel is Glazer's film? He apparently wanted to know everything that the researchers could find about the Hoss family. Then, he wrote the screenplay. The credits say loosely based on the Amis' novel.

The overlap of rethoric and actions between modern day Israel and WWII era Germany is shocking to witness. I recently watched Schindler's List with the my family a couple weeks back and I was taken back by the depiction of a wholesome and vibrant community versus the vile people I see in my feeds everyday for the last several months. Only to learn that israel has been doing this to the Palestinians for DECADES now. Frankly I'm disgusted by what I'm confident will be eventually recognized as a genocide by the Hague years from now. If you are at all a moral person you would be too.
