Good to see you back... unfortunately my 03 Passat 1.8t was totaled by my dtr. She's fine but thanks for all your help over the years... replaced turbo, cv joints, timing belt x 2, oil pickup and pump, timing chain tensioner, front lights. Etc, etc. Sad to see it go but so glad I never have to work on it again!

Hey love the vids and glad you're back. Any tips on getting air out of a brake system after a master cylinder replacement? Everywhere I read says to run the ABS pump while bleeding and was curious if you had any tips.
@EXOVCDS
@EXOVCDS 3 жыл бұрын
I just use a pressure bleeder to pressurize the reservoir and then I bleed L/F, RF, C/R and R/R. In one of my videos I mention that you don't even have to bleed at the wheels when installing a master cylinder. The disconnected lines at the master cylinder are full with fluid... so all that needs to be done, is to thread the lines into the master cylinder, leave them loose and add fluid to the reservoir. Fluid will push air out of the lines, as the fluid fills the master cylinder. Once you no longer see air bubbles come out of the lines at the master cylinder, you can tighten the lines / fittings. I don't like to Use the ABS to force fluid through the system to try and get air out... the ABS system / components are bypassed when normal brake pressure is applied / when flushing the system. Once you activate the system, you get air into the system... that, through continued activation is "hopefully" bled out of the ABS & regular brake system. Hope that all made sense. If you don't have a pressure bleeder... simply pump the brake pedal 10 times, hold pressure and have someone open a bleeder at one of the calipers. Open & close quickly. Do this 5 to 10 times at each wheel (5 front, 10 rear)... is usually all that is needed.

Hi Thomas! I got my secondary air pump and combi valve fixed, thanks for your advise. I have had both shots of Moderna too, first one with very little problem. The second took me bedridden for a day so it must have started something in my body. Have you considered contact lences? Pain to get used to, but far better than glasses in a working situation. Good luck, Thomas and take care!
@EXOVCDS
@EXOVCDS 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your Moderna feedback. I'll find out tomorrow... or should I say Tuesday! =) I haven't considered contacts... I guess I should talk to an Optometrist about it. Being able to reverse the vision issue (without glasses / contacts) would be great, but it takes a long time... using glasses while at work will slow that process down even more. =(

Good to hear you had no issues with J & J! Just had my 2nd Moderna... I'm not expecting to get any symptoms / side effects, but I'll know for sure by the end of this week. LOL... no, hasn't blown up yet. I am driving it harder than I used to... I should probably be recording my drives with my (knock off) gopros, just in case something happens that could turn into a viral video. LOL Mom's car is a 1.8T... needs another timing belt change and insurance at the end of the month. I'll probably hold off on the timing belt for a little longer. The AC works... but, for some reason she doesn't seem to be using it in this hot weather we've been having. Oh and I think I should probably put her summer tires back on. Scratch that, in 3 months it's winter (winter tires required starting October).

I’m sure it’ll go without notice but, I’ve been watching your videos for awhile, you’ve helped on my B5.5 Passat wagon and my 98 golf, in which I need help figuring out a no crank no start, I followed your Cabrio clutch replacement video 1:1 and did everything as close as I could, after all said and done the car will no longer spark, I’ve tried the clutch safety switch and readjusting the clutch cable multiple times, I attempted to use the “auto adjustable” cable but to no avail, I’ve gone over everything multiple times, any suggestions where to look, any advice or help would be appreciated!

@@EXOVCDS after watching that, I’m now wondering if the ignition switch is bad. Unfortunately the previous owner of the vehicle I believe had this issue and they passed it, they have a simple wire circuit, one wire plugs into the starter tab, one to the positive battery terminal and one to I believe the ignition, the way to start the car was, key on, clutch in and press the button these wires are attached too.

Each one of the brake master cylinder pistons feeds 1 front and 1 rear wheel (split occurs inside the ABS Hydraulic unit). If only the rear are working... the issue must be inside the hydraulic unit, no? I can only guess according to the info you provide (you said only the rear are engaging). Hydraulic units (the ABS valves, pump etc) usually do not require bleeding, as the system is full with fluid... after attaching ABS hydraulic units, I simply pressure bleed the lines... LF, RF, LR & RR. If you had air in the system... activating the ABS pump / valves could have allowed air into the valve body. However, when ABS is "not used / needed" the valving is "bypassed"... meaning, if you have a soft pedal... you still have air in the system.
