Sansa saying "we just need to make it to Castle Black" unwittingly shows how they already shrunk the universe by this point. Bran, Rickon, Hodor and Osha took the entirety of season 3 to get from Winterfell to the Wall. Sansa does it in about one episode.

To be fair... Jon gets there in about an episode in Season 1, but the passage of time is better managed and explained by cutting from him and Tyrion to Ned and Bobby to Cat and Robb. Because late-stage dragon show is desperately amalgamating stories and pushing characters together in the hopes of maintaining fan interest, they cant cut around to have time pass. This all culminates in the classic Jon line "The army has just crossed the Trident, they'll be at the walls of King's Landing in two days"

The funny thing about the "I drink and I know thing" they could have write "As a child I obssesed about dragons. I thought If I climbed on top of one I would see the world as people see me" And THAT is Tyrion's humor, he is self-depecretating Humor, because humor is how he shields fromt he world. If he laughs about the fact of being a Dwarf, then no one will find it funny anymore. While the "humor" is terrible in the show, it is also wrong, because it does not capture the core of WHY Tyrion makes jokes. He would not fire a joke (unless stressed) to another person just for shit and giggles, it is either to teacha lesson (To Jon) or to remind a person that no matter what they do, Tyrion can one up them.

S1-S4 Tyrion - delivering witty lines left and right that contain constant usage of literary devices; along with most of his lines thoroughly developing him as a character and the world around him. To season 6: I dRiNk AnD i KnOw ThInGs *eye squint* And I'm sure you'll roast Jon later in the season, but the fact that he has no life-altering character arc from being resurrected, and instead him becoming a more hollow character because of his lackluster dialogue is horrendous.

Remember in the past seasons when killing a king or a lord used to be a big deal with serious repercussions? Well not anymore. Alara murders the head of house Martell and the guards do nothing. Alister murders the lord commander of the night's watch, and the Night's Watch does nothing. Ramsey Bolton murders the lord of the Boltons and the Bolton guards do nothing. Euron murders the head of House Greyjoy and the Greyjoys do nothing. At this point the series just became a complete joke. What's the point of having lords and kings if they can just murdered out in the open without any consequences for the assassins at all?

You make so many fantastic points about the writing for Castle black and Thorn’s betrayal falling apart. Honestly, the point you made about Brienne and how she should be apologising to Sansa is one I had never actually considered before. I didn’t notice until you mentioned it, that responsibility for Sansa not going with Brienne back in season 5 was being placed upon Sansa, when Brienne was not only a stranger to her, but also a friend of Jaime Lannister, at a time when the crown was out for Sansa’s blood. The commentary about the utterly irrelevant Iron born of the show is super enjoyable, too. Yara’s invasion of the North being hand-waved away and getting no mention in the later seasons. It’s so true! Even the commentary about Slavers bay and Kingslanding is extremely on point. Btw. The bit about the Unsullied seeing nothing when all the ships were burnt, and Thorn just letting Ed slip by them had me dying.

What you said is what actually happened with Brooklyn 99. Both B99 and GoT have 8 seasons. GoT’s writing started to go downhill since season 5 while B99’s writing went downhill since season 6 but the audience responses each show are in a complete opposite. While the fans said that GoT is garbage that it became unrewatchable, the very same fans said that B99 is simply masterpiece, the best sitcom ever. The difference was the ending, B99 ended in a satisfying way so the fans forgive (and pretend to forget) poor writing in later seasons while GoT ending was a complete lackluster so nobody ever talk about it now, except for Glidus.

In the show, the Sparrow feels out of place and disconnected to the rest of the plot, they didn't do enough to build up the circumstances around his rise to power. In the book, they focus a lot on how much all the wars have impacted the common folk and how their desperation has galvanized this big religious movement. Cersei also played a bigger part in the Sparrow's rise. The Crown owed large sums of money to the faith and Cersei allowed the restoration of the faith militant in exchange for forgiveness of the debt. So Cersei is responsible for the faith being able to arm themselves and challenging the rule of the nobles.

The church also was pretty mad at the Lannisters when they cut off Ned's head on the Sept of Baelor and spilled blood on the religious holy grounds there. Because they originally told them they were not going to kill him, but give him mercy, which is part of the reason why they brought Ned to the sept of Baelor, but then Jofferey changed his mind and decided to kill Ned right then and there. So the church felt like the Lannisters lied to the church so that way they could get away with shedding blood on the holy ground of the Sept of Baelor which disgraced the church. I just read the 1st book not that long ago, and noticed that detail which I do not remember from the TV show.

Davos being the motive force behind Jon's resurrection is one of the mostly inexplicable, random choices the writers ever made -- like, often their adaptation choices are guided at least in part by budget, cast size, desire to streamline or leave out aspects of the story, etc. But here, there is literally no reason why it should not be Melisandre driving that plot.

I struggled with this for a time because it seemed to give the idiots D&D too much credit, but there is a reason they bring in Smalljon and bring up the Manderly’s. The prop head of Shaggy dog is too small. Manderly’s casting call mentioned him giving an epic battle speech. We also know thanks to the Dragon Demands’ extensive research that there was a lost ending to the battle of bastards because Dumb and Dumber wouldn’t listen to their expert colleagues about how long the shoot would take. I think Smalljon took a calculated risk to get Osha close enough to kill Ramsay, and originally were banking on Manderly’s forces to betray Ramsay in the battle. When that all went to shit, they tried to cover up their bad writing with Lyanna being sassy. Maybe the Vale’s last minute bailout was also a last minute coverup.

Wow, having Balon as an antagonist instead of Euron sounds like *such* a great idea. I watched the show first and only read the books later and as a show watcher I was really confused about Balon and then Balon's death and then Euron turning into a comedy character. If the show in season 6 had turned Yara finally against Balon and developed Theon making Balon responsible for what had happened to him that could have been a great setup. I think they should have developed Theon's and Yara's relationship more. I mean in s6e2 Theon would have come to terms that he loves the Starks and hates himself for ever causing harm to them while Yara doesn't seem to mind raiding/ conquering the north. Will they fight and hate each other? Will Yara learn to like the north, too? Or will they keep their differences but put them aside to focus on Balon/ Euron instead?

The way Jon came back from the dead is one of the exact things GRRM didn't like about The Lord of the Rings and tried to subvert in a Song of Ice and Fire - Gandalf seemingly dying and then coming back unchanged (except even more powerful). As he put it in an interview with Time magazine: "So all that time I thought Gandalf was dead, and now he’s back and now he’s Gandalf the White. And, ehh, he’s more or less the same as always, except he’s more powerful. It always felt a little bit like a cheat to me. And as I got older and considered it more, it also seemed to me that death doesn’t make you more powerful. If someone comes back from being dead, especially if they suffer a violent, traumatic death, they’re not going to come back as nice as ever." So he wrote Lady Stoneheart. And what does the show do? Have Jon die in a violent, traumatic way, get resurrected and be exactly the same.
@OcarinaSapphr-
@OcarinaSapphr- 2 жыл бұрын
He _should_ have been a stronger & more forceful character, post-resurrection- almost certainly darkly charismatic*. Because Dumbass & Dipsh*t removed so much of BookJon’s qualities, we’re essentially left with a ‘self-conscious, moody bastard- who occasionally has the odd tantrum, & at-times has a sense of humour, but mostly only around close friends’. BookJon was a bit more complex than that; he’s also ambitious, has dreams, & an anger he can’t explain. I still stand by my belief that he should have been cremated- because that’s just logic, whenever the Night’s Watch have a body, now- to prevent the possibility of them being raised as wights - & that the discovery the next morning, that he’s alive on the pyre should briefly cause a freak-out, but it’s Ghost’s reaction that creates reassurance- given that he hates the wights, & fights them- it also probably helps that Jon doesn’t have blue eyes, or blackened extremities... Given that only **one other person in the world** has returned from the dead in _this_ way- it’s a pretty short-hand way of giving the obvious fact that: Jon *must* have Targaryen blood- & when he reunites with Bran, the final piece falls into place - therefore, there is no garbage ‘hiding Jon’s heritage, for the lols’... Put all the cards on the frickin’ table, & work out how to play them- it isn’t rocket-science... *My own head-canon, was that he & Sansa should have been given Stannis’ Mountain Clan plot- a lot of Stannis’ success with them was predicated on Jon’s advice, as I recall- why not just cut out the middle-man, as it were (given how they’d already mumped Stannis’ arc up, & killed him off, to boot). It would have been a new environment- & a fantastic opportunity to showcase ResedJon’s new character; someone strong-willed, focused- but capable of playing the great lord with confidence, to win alliances - someone who recognises his past, but yet- isn’t tethered to it, or weighed down by it- it’s like he’s been emotionally separated from it. (Where a voiceover/ flashback of Aemon’s ‘kill the boy’ would come in- with the realisation that ‘the boy’ is Jon Snow- ‘the man’, yet to be born, at that time- is Jaehaerys II/III- the Young/ New Conciliator - HIS NAME IS NOT AEGON, btw) The Mountain Clans are different from the majority of the Northern Houses- they have been treated as petty lords, but they are kind of a different people - things like bastardy don’t quite matter to them, the way they do to other lords- they follow strength, but have intense loyalty to the Starks- some have connections to them through marriage, others, through shared suffering- as they also lost people at the Red Wedding- & consequently, **hate** the Boltons & their Frey allies. I would have *paid* to see an encounter between Tormund, & ‘Big Bucket’ Wull - the maturity, commonsense & growth it would take, to see both- the coming threat, & that the Wildlings are also willing to fight against this coming threat, so keeping alive old hatred is a pointless waste of time & lives- that would have been better than the same rehashed arguments. It would have also been interesting to see Sansa take on a Val-like role of matured leadership, & also see her start to slowly let her walls come down a little- among these people who respected & loved her father & family so much. What I liked about s2’s Battle of the Blackwater (other than *_the everything_* that made it better than s5, 6, 7, & 8 battles)- was that we see who Sansa truly is: in spite of how ghastly she’s treated, she still retains her compassion- & more importantly, she’s acting like a *queen* - she’s doing her best to be gracious to the other women around her- leading them in prayers, & hymns, trying to keep people calm, & in good spirits... What’s the _actual_ supposed Queen doing at this time? Getting smashed off her tits, whining about how she’d prefer to be a man & fight, rather than here, waiting - & taking a kind of vile delight in telling Sansa (& anyone else within earshot) that should the holdfast be breached, all these women & girls will be raped- & that a noble virgin, like her would be a particular target... Among the Mountain Clans, Sansa & Jon- as those of Stark blood, would be showered with respect & affection - I know that D&D wanted to give Lyanna Mormont her #GirlBoss moment, & Davos, too- but at what cost did those moments come? If they’d wanted to show a changing landscape in the North, with conflicted characters, & even other turn-coat houses- they _could_ have done that- with the particular houses & characters **where it makes sense** : Lady Barbrey Dustin, & her Ryswell kin- the lesser Karstark branch. The rest of the North is with the Boltons on sufferance; the Manderleys, Woolfields, & Lockestons are already plotting- others, like the Cerwyns, ‘answered the call’, as it were, because they are **terrified** , after Ramsay’s horrific acts- they could have showed the new teenage lord’s presence, as one who’s only become lord because his senior family were murdered & mutilated by a monster- & even ‘allies’, like Barbrey- are only going to remain loyal, so long as Roose is alive. Ramsay can never hope to hold the North together by anything less than a reign of terror - *but* , there comes a point, where fear isn’t enough to keep people down- & in the show, there’s at least two actual Starks to rally behind. If Dumbass & Dipsh*t are actually trying to tell us that the North would not rally behind a Stark, _any_ Stark- even if a woman, or a bastard, just because they are ‘weary of war’ (it’s not like they’ll actually know peace under the Boltons)- they have rocks in their head... My point is- anything would have been miles better than that cringey small talk-filled struggle to gain allies that D&D went with - what I don’t get; _why_ keep making the Starks the under-dogs, *all* the way through? We get it; when Ned died, everything changed for them- after Robb’s acclamation as king, to all the battles he won- unexpected in a ‘boy’, who’d never known war- & much to the surprise of someone like Tywin; they might have been riding high for a short while - but, from when Robb broke his promise, he was on borrowed time- it’s pretty obvious. Then, the Red Wedding happens- & everything really goes to hell- even if they don’t realise it - & not just the Starks, but the North as a whole- is at its’ lowest ebb... The Starks spend S1-4 in their various locales; creating, growing- & in some cases, clawing back something of their strength & resolve, growing power-bases & support- s5 was where the real twists & turns should have happened, for those still around - where the resurgence **should** have begun, & a change in tone - those bell-ends kept quoting ‘the North Remembers’- yet had no idea what to do with it (just like they had no idea what to do with so many fantastic plots & characters). Instead of that insane _’everyone is just gonna follow the family of treacherous, long-despised, long held in suspicion kingslayers & oath-breakers- who joined a bunch of treacherous Southron arsehats in destroying &/ or taking hold of members of virtually every single family in the North, & several from the Riverlands - that’s perfectly ok, & not at all insane, totally in-keeping with First Men customary belief against breaking Guest-right, hur dur...’_ Wow, I really have to stop rewriting whole seasons’ worth of plots, like this...

Just to point out plotholes within plotholes, Alliser had the opportunity to stop Jon and the wildlings from passing through the wall, didn't take it and only betrayed Jon once Jon basically has a private army. But also, the only reason that scene *exists* is because D&D teleported the wildlings from the coast of Eastwatch to Castle Black. They would have sailed past the wall on Stannis' ships. So the only reason for that entire scene in retrospect is to *create* a plothole for *no reason.* It all makes so much more sense in the books. The Night's Watch hadn't already been pushed to their limit when Jon let the wildlings through. Or at least if they had, they knew Stannis would object to them murdering their own Lord Commander. And by the time Stannis left many wildlings were already past the wall. Jon was essentially protected during that crucial timeframe. It was only after Jon tried to find a loophole in his vows and lead a private army to Winterfell that they decided fuck it he has to die. The fact that they were crying in that scene shows they really believed what they were doing was necessary, which means it makes sense for them to place killing Jon above the value of their own lives. Since you'd expect them to not dare harm him with so many wildlings in Castle Black. And with so much chaos in Castle Black at the time, it would be very easy for the conspirators to just say either the wildlings killed Jon, or no one knows who did it, assuming they survive the imminent battle with the wildlings. So those more dedicated to following the laws of the Watch to the letter (and therefore would follow Jon regardless of what they think of him) would not know who to execute and the conspirators would be able to retain control.

Tony *"Stark"* Iron Man flying in and killing Daenerys Targaryen would have “subvert expectations”.

Urine Cakeboy was not a good depiction of insanity in the show either. He was a literal cartoon villain. I expected to hear bugs bunny clonking sounds whenever he hit an enemy.

Anybody else think it’s fucking great how Glidus fulfilled a GameGrumps prophecy by putting Jacob Anderson saying cheeseburger in an American accent over serious footage of Grey Worm?

Tyrion goes from being a high-functioning member of a dysfunctional family/society in which he had ZERO power but for the educational privileges his station afforded him and the aura of his family name - to reverting to an alcoholic of declining functionality. Praise Lord Glimbus!

I never even thought about Balon being the villain instead of Euron, and if we can't have book Euron but are stuck with show Euron, I'd instantly say yes. Euron in the show is so freaking annoying that I'd switch him with almost anyone. (nothing against the actor of course!)

These vids make me so irrationally happy. I don’t care about GOT anymore, but it feels like reconnecting with an old friend to listen to you talk. If I had more than €5.87 to my name I would pay to have my name said demonically Thanks for the vid!

Around 17:00. That's also a bit of an issue I have with the High Sparrow. Like, I think the general idea of how he dies is okay. He dies because his beliefs are so strong that he doesn't think anyone would even try to go against them. They could have escaped if they had listened to Margery after all (or at least had a chance), but his idea that Cersei would still show up due to fearing the gods is what lets him stay. However, the large problem I have with that is that this faith in the gods is never really shown before. He talks a lot about the gods, but especially in this scene, he is also seemingly not stupid enough to bet his life on someone else fearing the gods. This is what makes his story so strange. He is sometimes portrayed in a way that you think he has an alterior motive and that the faith in gods is just one way to achieve that goal and sometimes he is portrayed like a true believer who would never question his own beliefs and therefore thinks everyone else is similar too (at least once they see the light). And this isn't really helped by the fact that blowing up everything doesn't have a lasting impact on the story as you pointed out in the S7 videos aside from him not being there anymore. It seems like his whole cult didn't really have a huge impact on the people of King's Landing since they are not really bothered by it. Or were all the believers in or at least close to the explosion? But then, I don't understand this confidence if he took years to show people the true way and only a handful of people (most of them even just being normal people that are easy to convince) were actually following his ideals. It seems like one half of that conflict was part of George's ideas and the other part were D&D filling the blanks but completely missing the point of the character and story.
