Home Made Pop Hole (Automatic Door) for Chicken House

This video shows details of the home made motorised mechanism which operates this door. In its design consideration must be given to the extent of the pull required, the diameter of the cord and shaft and the "lead" of the threaded rod. The diameter of the cord must not exceed the lead of the thread.

Absolutely brilliant! Amazing design. There's no way I could duplicate that, unfortunately for me. However I did enjoy the demonstration.

Now thats what you call impresive . . I was thinking about using light sensor and yours is only one I have seen so far with one installed . . You need to build some more and Im sure others will buy them

Any issues with it? It's been almost 12 years. How is the line holding up. I don't generally like these type of setups but yours definitely has a few features I am impressed with. Just one thing. The limit switches don't detect when the door is up or down. They just cut the current in the circuit when a distance is reached. LOL

Sorry I don't have plans I can share. The mechanical bits will have to match the "scrap" you can find, but the video shows how it works. The electronics as I did it require some basic knowledge and some PIC programming skills plus a little imagination. If I was making another one I would probably simplify the electronics. I might be able to find a drawing of the electronics to scan if you really want it.

Yep that is fantasti and just what I need . I am looking to build a mobile goat shed, but want to try!!! and train the goats to come in at night as we have dingo's. Any chance you would make another door opening machanism for a door about 2X the size and ship it Australia. needs to be powered by a solar panel.

Did you make this mechanism all by yourself? Wow I really want one but the automatic door openers for chicken coop are really expensive!

I'm glad you like it, unfortunately I have no plans as it was put together from available junk. I have posted a link to the schematic here www.fileswap.com/dl/KmJcIwpdqI/Pop_Hole_Schematic.jpg.html but you would need to update it and write the software.
