Hi and welcome back! Today I made my own version of Sazon Goya or Sazon Knorr. The best part? No msg or food dyes!
Here are the ingredients:
1 1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoon dried cilantro flakes
1 tablespoon of ground annatto (achiote)
Buen Provecho!

Thank you so much for these recepies.. I was told by my doctor I need to be on a no sodium diet.. She might as well told me to eat garbage and drop dead. I'm thinking, I'm PuertoRican Lady I need my adobo and Sazon seasoning!!... So I started searching for a way to have it with out all the salt and here I am.. Life is not over...Lol.. I just made my own adobo today and I was very pleased!!! I seasoned some chicken with it and I have to admit that the color and fragrance was even better than the store bought. Making changes for a healthier me!!!!

Thanks for the great recipe. I have been making arroz con pollo with the Goya Sazon. I love knowing the ratios of the spices so I can experiment making my own variations. As for those worried about MSG, there is nothing wrong with it. It is a sodium salt of glutamic acid (which is abundant in tomatoes). Used sparingly, it gives your food a meaty flavor. There is a lot of scare based on old and bad research. Please educate yourself. Always keep in mind that digestion takes place at a molecular level. Your body doesn't care if the molecule came from a plant, an animal or was manufactured in a chemical factory. You can be allergic to natural foods and artificial foods. Listen to your body and savor your food.

Your absolutely the best Spanish chef I have come across.. Including books. I've learned b4 many things you've done from Puerto Rican friends grandmas and mothers in my life Which is always the best teacher. I've worked as a professional chef since 19 yrs old. My childhood hero was Julia Child the French chef on pBS channel 13 in NYC n other chefs later on Food Network I grew up Around great cooks of many European backgrounds including French and Italian but authentic style not pizza parlor style or steep typed American way style which is poorly done Over load if fat sugar and SALT. I LOVE Sazon with Anchor n Coriander but the SAKT Kills ME.IM salt sensitive n I immediately my eyes hands feet swell n. Y face gets itchy I feel it's addictive too. I 4got how to Make Sazon now thank you Done change I add is bay leaf since I use it anyway and sometimes a little tuneric can't taste it but adds more color b suppose health benefits I make in small amounts so it's freshen try to use whole spices cumin seed coriander and all pepper corn onion garlic flakes for more freshness I hope as for any Jambon ham floor I used meat free ham or bacon chiplets sold in health Food stores there salty I'm careful and AKWAYS add me Salt last since many of our products salty .Abd thank u for you patato ball recipe The CORNSTARCH that's what I was missing!. Your ethnic cooking is one of my faces to cook n eat You reminded me things forgotten and things I needed to know

You are a life saver with this sazón recipe substitute! I stopped using sazón like 15 years ago because of the msg. You're right, who knows whether it's bad for you or not. I've just gone along with what everyone says and stayed away from it. Unfortunately it is definitely missed because there's something about those little packets that just adds that extra bit of flavor. There really is magic inside of them. I made my own today and I tweaked it a little bit. Instead of 1 tablespoon of annatto, I used 1/2 tablespoon of annatto and 1/2 tablespoon of turmeric. I'm trying it out today in your carné guisada recipe. So anyway, thank you sooo very much for this sazón alternative! I wish I'd found your channel years ago.

I developed an allergy to MSG in my 30s. Needless to say, I had to give up most processed foods, because it is in almost every thing these days. 😟 You have done me the greatest gift, as I can now enjoy making many Latino flavored dishes again, without sacrificing my beloved Sazon!!! Muchas gracias!!! 😚

thanks so much for showing how to make homemade sazon! several years ago I developed an allergy to onions that has gotten worse over time. I love onions but they don't love me. I never thought I could enjoy authentic Spanish cooking again. now I can follow your recipes & just leave out the onion ingredients. I also greatly appreciate that you list all your ingredients & their measurements. so many people on food recipe channels say they just eyeball their measurements instead. this is especially hard to follow if you knows nothing about cooking. thanks again!!!:)

I noticed the sazon packets now added chili powder, turmeric and paprika. Although it’s great, it no longer has the authentic flavor from Puerto Rico. Whoever wants to add those as well is fine. For me, this is why recently I wasn’t liking the flavor of the chicken. It’s good don’t get me wrong but for me it goes away from the spices normally used in Puerto Rico even while adding a small amount of adobo. I can still taste the difference. Now it all makes sense why I felt something in the packets was off once I saw this video. Thank you. I’ll definitely make my own which I have been wanting to do. Thanks again. I’m definitely sharing this with friends! PS. The packets also contain salt which is something I’m using less of including adobo. So this recipe is great because I have the option of adding salt. Thanks again.

I'm looking at the ingredients as I type, and it only has "turmeric" listed as for coloring, no artificial coloring. But, annatto is just a color anyway. Also, MSG isn't bad for you, it's a natural amino acid.

Thanks for this recipe, I'll be sure to try it! Also MSG is found naturally in foods like cheese & tomatoes. It used to be extracted from seaweed broth, but a fermentation process is now used. The studies that were done as well, didn't support that msg was harmful.

Love it! I have not used commercial sazon in over a year. I found a recipe for diy sazon on the internet and have not looked back. I do add some salt and pepper to my spice mix because regular sazon did have salt in it as well. I would advise others to warm the homemade sazon in the oil they will be using to cook so that the orange color seeps out to color the food. Thanks for sharing!

I made this but the cumin seems to overpower the whole thing! I haven’t tried it yet so I don’t know if the cumin will overpower the dish I make. Thank you for the ingredient list!

Thank you so much for the recipe! I love the Goya products... Except for the fact that they put MSG in them. :(
