I am working on understanding memory on a Lenovo P16 Gen 2 right now. I have learned lots about memory and Intel processors last 3 days. It turns out the memory speed of 5600MHz will not run at that speed as more memory is added. My processor is also a i9-13980HX and I have 128GB of 4 x 32GB of 5600MHz memory sticks. If I add only one 32GB memory it will run at 5600MHz. If I add 64GB of memory (2 x 32GB) the speed is 4000MHz. If I add 128GB (4 x 32GB) the memory speed runs at 3600. Depending on processor design the Speed will vary as more memory slots are used. Good video!

Yeah. This really sucks. I miss being able to do wired without needing to dongle or hub. It's not a dealbreaker for me (at work we have blasted Dell Precison 55xx models. These don't even have USB-A ports, let alone ethernet).

I purchased ThinkPad P16 Gen 2 (Intel Core i9-13950HX vPro CPU, 192GB RAM, 2x4TB SSD, NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada GPU) a few days ago. I have chosen the ThinkPad because Dell Mobile Precision 7680 and HP Zbook Fury 16 G10 overheat and throttle a lot. I spent $35 on professional testing software called 3DMark and I ran one of its tests called Time Spy. The ThinkPad's CPU throttled for about 10s in a test which lasted about 380s. When the ThinkPad was struggling with the hardest part of the test, it was blowing as much hot air as small hair dryer. Its fan was spinning fast, but it was surprisingly quiet. Its noise resembled heavy rain.

Wow!! It's so great that someone has bought the 192gb version! I hope you're enjoying it. Btw, is there any chance that you could give me the ram's part number? I would like to order 48gb ram sticks for myself as well! But I have no part number and Lenovo here cannot order sticks by size. 😔

@@longrhino I guess that I would have to open the service door. I have never done it. Lenovo manual says: "Before replacing any CRU (customer replaceable unit), ensure that you disable Fast Startup first and then disable the built-in battery... Before you start (open service door), read Generic Safety and Compliance Notices (48 pages)." I am too busy to do it, and I do not want to damage my expensive laptop. @@BJSteigner Yes you're right. The only aspect to think about when configuring the specs of these machines is the CPU because it is sticked to the motherboard forever. Beside that, almost all components (display, webcam, RAM, SSD and even GPU) can be replaced and upgraded in the future. Just go with good CPU (i7/i9/Xeon) right at the beginning, don't care too much of the others if you don't want to spend more money on higher storage or 4K display or you don't really need them. P/s: I actually recommend configuring the machine with better CPUs as well as larger battery packs first, other things are not very important.

Lenovo engineers don't have a clue. Like you I had the P53. Purchased this P16 Gen2 and immediately returned it. Poor cooling system, cheap plastic chassis and a keyboard that is a far cry from the classic Thinkpad's. Let alone the absurd lack of ethernet port on a machine of this size. My solution was to purchase an Asus Rog Strix it is better than this Thinkpad on mostly everything.

Well, to be honest, I was wondering myself, and it looks like it's being supported, but, WITH A BIG BUT: Windows 10 does not support the heterogenous core architecture present on the 12th and 13th generation Intel Core processors. You are giving up workload-aware task scheduling, which will have deleterious effects on your performance and power efficiency. PS. I've double checked it for you, and there are drivers for Windows 10 for that machine.

@@longrhino Thanks friend, I just ordered that machine but with I7-13700hx on Amazon, I read in intel that 13th generation processors do support win10pro, I'm working on some projects that the client requires win10pro, the p16 gen 1 model comes with the option "downgrade" from win11pro to win10pro, it comes with win10pro pre-installed, it was my first choice,. I tried to make the purchase through the Lenovo web but I could never and the technical support could never resolve it, so I decided to buy it on amazon.

I bougth this laptop and returned it because the poor quality chasis the lack of ethernet port and the fan noise even without load. The CPU easily reached 100 degrees C and constantly downclocks because the cooling system is subpar. The power brick only provides 230W and that's is not enough to feed the CPU and the high performance GPU. So both GPU and CPU are power and cooling limited. It was a totally disappoinment at $4000 US that I paid. So, I returned It and bougth an Asus Rog Strix with the same CPU and RTX 4070. It cost me $2000 and is better than the Thinkpad on everything except for the screen that while on the Asus is good enough on the Thinkpad was awesome. One important drawback on the Thinkpad also is the Ram speed support. It only works at 4000Mhz with 64 GB. On the Strix that same 64GB amount works at 5200 MHz.
