We shouldn’t associate their ability with the capacity to build a tent home. On the Ukraine statement: that’s a disingenuous comparison as we live in a global economy. I’m not sure if you remember, but gas prices skyrocketed as Russia is a gigantic member of OPEC. Biden had to go into our own oil reserves to keep us from having another gas crisis in the 70s. Prices on wheat-fed animals spiked even higher than prices under COVID (which was due to a shortage of production). Also, giving that money and weapons to Ukraine keeps us from being dragged into an armed conflict with Russia. You may not be aware, but the draft actually encompasses men between the ages of 18 and 55 if they needed to conscript Americans to fight that war. Sure, it’s not likely that we would need to increase the draft ages that far as we are a member of NATO, the possibility is there. I think a couple billion dollars of funny money to keep Americans from dying in someone else’s war is a valid use of the money.
