Homemade Bird Control Spikes - Nest Building Deterrent

This video shows how to make bird control spikes from scrap welded wire fencing. Every year the birds make their nests in the same spots on my house. This deterrent is placed in the nesting locations. Cheap and easy to make, these can be secured permanently, or temporarily placed during season. Bird spikes will not harm the birds, only discourage them to nest where they are placed. I hope this idea will help others with their nest infestations. Thanks for watching, sharing and SUBSCRIBING!

Thank you for this video! I didn't want to buy commercial spikes because they're expensive and hard to find where I live. These were super easy to make. Great tutorial and technique. A bespoke bird spike for pennies. Thanks again!

Glad you like my video! It seems to be working well. I did have one bird come back to try out a new nest, but it gave up and left. This is definitely a keeper idea!

Brilliant idea. Needed some spikes and don't have a nail gun and was going to drill or screw into some scrap. Have spare wire mesh and this will save me tonnes of time. Thanks Phil!

It's all about the angles. The issue I have with commercial bird spikes is that they are evenly space (classic v shape) and have a smooth wide angle, which various birds find a way around. By having the ends point at different angles, and having additional spike ends in the middle makes it's difficult for birds to hang around and build a nest. I built one myself years ago and it works. I hate building them by hand though.

Yes! plus, the best thing about making your own, is the fact that you can have as many spikes as you want too.

Hi Phil and you're making industrial strength barbed wire. Now for a hot wire from the light fixture and you ought to be set! It'll work fine unless you get a crop of birds that get their kicks by getting their kicks! Maple leaves are out 2 1/2 inches across so spring must be here. Mowed back yard 4 time so it has started! Go fishing and have a Wonderful Jesus day!

Brother Lewie! Yes... this wire contraption seems to be working well! Been doing some yard work as well. Mowed for the first time this year yesterday. planted some saplings that I got from our State Conservation Dept. mostly hazelnut trees. Son shot a Turkey last weekend. We'll have turkey and catfish for easter lunch after church this year. Thanks for checking in! I always look forward to hearing from you!

Indeed!!!! However, I have one area of the porch that they relocated to. I’ll have to make another one for that spot. I could t be happier with these. Cheap and ez to make.

use caulk that is more transparent when dried.

Or you could hang wind chimes that have moving parts. Home Depot by me sells pre-made spikes like this.

Hang some CDs, sometimes even one works but this person used a few: tinyurl.com/x4a6ud6h not sure if it's cuz they're shiny or just in their way but they work. We used one above our garage motor where they nested and they never returned it's still there to this day.
