My bro u are exceptional .. WOW! That is a fine Lathe u have built there or are just about nearly finished.. I didn't know u could use those guide rails for building something as precise as a Lathe. I bought a set of them the other day. They're only 800mm long 16mm rod but they're nice. I bought them to use for my sliding table on a table saw I'm about to embark upon this month.. I've waited a long while to collect the parts together.. Can I ask u a question or 2 if u have the time bro?? Q. Did u study engineering in University or someth bcos u seem well versed in how Lathe's are set up, etc?? Q. How are those guide rails working out for u on the lathe? I would've expected to see those nice Linear rails with the dovetail shape to them but obviously these guide rails are fine so far.. I got mine off a website called VEVOR for just over 40 Euros.. I thought it was a good deal .. I'm no expert when it comes to any of this stuff but I'm going to give it my best nad hope it works out.. If not it'll be an experience that'll help me learn from anyways..LOL Keep doin' ur thing my bro. Ur absolutely brilliant at this metalwork/engineering stuff.. Keep up the awesome work. I'll be watching for more of these videos to learn from . How did u get the tailstock parts cut out so cleanly? Was that on a plasma CNC?? Sorry for that last Q pal..

next time try to heat the outer part and so insert other parts, when heated the external will expand and after cooling it will sit firmly

Nice job. How rigid are those rails for a lathe? Would they deflect a fair bit or no
@dexter1448
@dexter1448 2 жыл бұрын
they are rigid! but at now i would use a other type of linear rails like this: www.jacksfilament.com/LDO-Linearfuehrung-MGN9H-Linearschiene-und-Block-300-350-400mm they are better because they are only one part from steel and they are not as high as they ive used... they are also easier to install beacuse they have only one hole in the center and not two on each side like the other... i hope you can understand my english...

Have you ran indicators on the lathe to check alignment and squareness? I am curious to know what kind of tolerances you can get with this.
@dexter1448
@dexter1448 2 жыл бұрын
Jea! The tolerance is about 5/100mm i can easy made press and sliding fits, with no play at all

@@dexter1448 0.05mm? WOW. Im currently looking into building something like this but with square linear rails rather than round OR upgrading the round ones to the next size up (20mm instead of 16 as thats what someone else uses). Now to figure out how to make it cut threads...
@dexter1448
@dexter1448 2 жыл бұрын
@@Overclocked2300 just now i would also use the square bearing steel linear rails, because, they are mutch stronger!
@dexter1448
@dexter1448 2 жыл бұрын
@@Overclocked2300 I didn't build mine to cut threads because I rarely need it ... I wouldn't recommend a compount slide either, as you rarely need it and it weakens the whole construction ... But I still built an automatic feed, which will come in one of the next videos!
