A tip for diyers. Old fridges and freezers make great boxes to store paints in. They keep them from freezing in the winter. Obviously you dont plug them in or turn them on. But when you gut one like this or have a dead or old one dont chunk it.

How do the compressors stay lubricated since the oil that lubricates them is normally in the freon that flows through them?
@bruceaugustine6486

I built one of these about a year ago, I put a foam paint roller pad, the 5" size i cut them to 3" and they fit perfect, on the tubes that draws in the air to keep any dirt out of the compressor body. I would recommend covering the fan blade so no one gets hurt.

My only critique is that you need to have the tank pressure tested to at LEAST 20% higher psi than you will have the cut off set as. The tank was originally designed for far higher pressures, but you don't know how pitted the inside is from moisture, so the testing is at least a good idea.

@ Don Natalie Lucas, I’ve been watching some compressed air videos, there’s a surprising lack of knowledge not only around good practice but more worryingly the devastating effects of compressed air when it goes wrong. From using propane tanks, to tyre inflation one guy is aiming for 300psi. Just hope people who are unsure what they’re doing just buy an off the shelf compressor.
@donnatalielucasheimbigner7598
@donnatalielucasheimbigner7598 Жыл бұрын
@@hitop2365 I personally witnessed the aftermath of an air tank explosion over 35 years ago. Everyone was fortunate to have not been there when it happened because the amount of devastation would have easily killed us. It was also good that a vehicle wasn't in the shop because the damage would have cost thousands of dollars to repair. A portable air compressor (I think it was a 30 gallon tank) that was rated to operate at 150psi had a sticking shut off switch that wouldn't shut off until around 175psi. It also was an older unit that had been placed under the corner of a farm shop bench made of rough cut 2x8 wood. It had not been pulled to be drained regularly & would only get drained when there was a significant amount of water coming out of the hose. We would unplug it when not in use, so the nobody worried about changing the cut off valve immediately. It was slated to the "next trip to town" status. One night we had forgotten to unplug it after working in the shop. About midnight there was an explosion loud & violent enough to be felt in the house about 100 yards away. When we got t the shop, there was a corner of the concrete block building blown out about from ground level to the 4-5 foot high mark & around 10 feet down the wall. Pieces of the boards from the bench were strewn about as well as parts of the 3 layers of 2" thick wood from the edge of the sliding door. Inside there were parts of the air tank blown into the ceiling, the door, the opposite side wall 30" away, & into the 14ga toolbox in the opposite side corner. Looking at the parts showed that the tank was pitted in the lower 1/4 level. We knew the cut oof device was defective but had not even thought about the safety pop off, which was found & was stuck shut. The motor was located nearly halfway to the house & the compressor unit was obliterated. We learned several valuable lessons that day. The best were that the tank MUST be drained EVERY day, to periodically check the pop off, & replace the cut off device IMMEDIATELY when it is defective.

2 things :) First: you won't cool the compressors with that fan :) the compressors are cooled with the intake of air / gas, second if you don't discharge the compressor lines with the regulator you'll have a bad start and the compressors will switch off termically close one of the inlets of the tank and the compressors air out should be connected to the regulator also

Nah mate, you're wrong about the cooling part. The air that gets compressed releases a lot of heat into the compressors. The fan is useful for cooling them down. In a fridge there's usually a plastic cover on top of the compressor. That's where the water that condenses in the fridge runs off to. When the water heats up from sitting on top of the hot compressor is evaporates and cools the compressor. So the fan is actually a very good idea.
@predictivoelectrico4855
@predictivoelectrico4855 4 ай бұрын
These compressors are designed so that the stator is cooled by the refrigerant returning from the evaporator. The fan is to cool the exchanger or condenser, helping the thermodynamic cooling cycle. So it doesn't really help much to cool the compressor motor.

It’s easy enough to replace the oil with clean mineral oil and that will suffice however the moisture accumulation is still an issue however that can be solved by replacing the oil depending on the frequency of use. If output moisture is a concern regarding your air tools or for painting applications, you’d simply run the output from the compressor into a small radiator fan and then an auto draining moisture trap and lastly plumb it into the tanks. This will result in roughly 85-90% +\-less moisture in output air entering the air tank.

When you get any tank that was used for air .... Inside it there might be a lot of rust.... Fill it up with white vinegar to help it soften all the inside rust then after two three days being filled with vinegar put a rag inside it after you have emptied it and shake it around inside there so that the rag can rub off all that rust inside it you can put a cup of water to help the rag become heavier and you'll see how clean it is inside, do that only with a rag two three times that way in the future the tank will not explode because of the rust eating through the inside of it

You shall add safety cover for fan, and air filter for air intake. I hope if you can measure noise or show compressor voice, thanks. Also I think you can improve control to run only one compressor if no high demand
