This video says March 26 but Jeff has a tan. I think it was made the summer before. Thanks for this Jeff. We are renovating a house we bought "as-is" last April. We were able to buff up all the doors except one. This video was a great help in getting a blank door ready to hang.

I used to use a circular saw with a guide set to about 3/16" and trim the lock side of the door the entire length, only takes a minute, no plane, sanding etc. Gives a nice gap all around. Router the hinges too.

Hi and thank you for the great videos about drywall and all the tips and tricks. This video is full of information also, but it would be great to show all the steps needed for replacing a door in a brick wall. Telling a brick wall I mean a good old fashion internal thick plaster which makes a 25sm brick wall extend to 31-33sm at total. How to remove the old frame to minimize the damage on the plaster. How to shim and fix the new door frame and how to restore the damaged parts of the wall plaster. Once again - thank you for the all effort you give in making theese videos.

Hi. Thank you for all the wonderful and informative videos. I do wish that i cal could be so handy like you as a female 😊. Watching your video, I do have questions but I’m going to try to follow exactly what you do ☺️. I did purchase 2 new slab doors to update our current old looking doors. I purchased the standard size and sure needed to trim it down to fit the right size. To purchase a custom door cost more so I’m trying to just trim it myself. The saw that you use, can you share the info so that I can purchase one for the future door change too. I still got about 10 more doors to update. Thank you and more helpful videos to come please. God Bless 🙏🏽

Ryobi makes a kit to cut the hinge mortises and hole for the knob. I believe it’s designed to reference off the original door (if you have it). Would be a time saver if you’re doing a lot of doors but if it’s just one, maybe not worth the money. Requires a router.

I strongly believe one should attack the frame before the door (assuming you're okay with repainting it) in order to get a good fit. Otherwise, the next door replacement will require door trimming again. Get the frame cleaned up, and any standard door will fit.
@phillyhotboy02

Planning the door is far easier than planning the jam otherwise you'd have to remove the door stop or use a manual planer.
@phillyhotboy02
@phillyhotboy02 5 жыл бұрын
Also there might be nails or screws in the jamb that secure the jamb to the rough frame. Also if it's an exterior door, attacking the frame weakens the structure and the latching integrity.

This is why you never chisel lengthwise at the hinge and the surface veneer. 13:43 I've cut a few doors like you have here. I don't feel so bad about my results. I found them to look substantially better by using a router and template to cut those hinges in. It may not have worked as well here because your door jambs were square, but by using the router, all you'd need to do is cut the rounded corners with the chisel square again. As far as the door goes, your planing of the door goes pretty fast, given your experience you have no problems I'm sure. I use a circ saw guide and just set it to the depth I need and get exactly what I want cut off. Perfect to my line every time.

For this summer i have a suggestion, if its in your line of awesomness …. what about different ways to do a pathway in the back yard to those awesome decks you built?

I recently discovered interesting surface-mount hinges that don't require any chiselling. Could be useful in some situations.

Seriously Jeff you owe it to yourself to buy a hinge jig kit, to be used with a router. So much easier and better results. Check out the milescraft hingemate set.

Just did an install like you're doing here and left a 1/8th in gap at the top as you did. Unfortunately, the customer could see a crack at the top of the door because the old doorstop was too thin. Try as I could, They saw it as my cutting the door short. There's no pleasing some people
