Recently we have been delving deeply into the idea of notebooking as a homeschooling method of learning. This is partly because of our current project of creating some "notebooking books" that we are calling Commonplace Books. (We held a contest on the Mom Delights KZfaq community and it was so much fun!).
Anyways, as I have been sharing so much on the subject, a number of questions arose from our audience. I thought it would be a good idea to take some time and answer as many of them as I could.

I wish more churches would encourage parents to have a heart of service for their families. We have been to so many churches and have never heard a message of serving your family. People need to hear it. ❤❤❤ Thank you for being a light!

I think you are right, but I have actually known of a few churches that do emphasize serving your family, and it used to be a lot more common. I do have a soft spot for ministers who are under so much pressure to perform, either for a church board or a denominational board. It's so hard for them to balance all of the pressure they receive.

I appreciate your channel. Homeschooling used to be a community where women helped each other figure it out. Now, it's all about making money and portraying unrealistic days.

I am glad to be able to cut through the tension and bring things down to earth. Unfortunately, my experience in the 80's and 90's with a few homeschooling groups was one of pretense and competition. I think getting sponsorships has changed the way homeschoolers conduct their online content, but you're right, that used to be a lot different.

Oh Sherry, I needed to hear that about serving my family and how it's an offering to God. I know this, but have felt pressure from our church to be more involved. Thank you!

I am so relieved to here you say “the type of poor people despise” most people don’t understand that! Unless you’re serving self centered people nothing you do will be enough for self centered types! You definitely blessed me!

I smiled to myself as you mentioned the kind that have no idea what to do with a notebooking page. My eldest 2 and I tried it in the beginning and were totally mystified. We had no idea what to do with it or what was "expected". Then my 5th child, my artsy one, just asked for some of your notebooking pages one day and away she went. I was like "ahhh!". We'd already started with the Lesson Books but this was a whole new thing. That's just the way her brain works. So now she's helped me figure it out all these years later, we are using this method for the younger children in all different ways😊 I have no community so thank you for these. It just feels less alone and more positive. God bless

I down loaded your gentle grammar for my kids and printed it off. I started book binding last summer as a useful hobby and I have made a copy of the first, second and third mcguffey readers. I am a single mature momma of three children. I work nights two days a week so that I can homeschool and it works beautifully. Finding your channel has been a God-send as it has saved me so much money. I was wondering how I could afford to buy their curriculum. The one I have spent money on is their math curriculum. I will try the free math curriculum for next year and see how it goes. That would save me three hundred dollars.

Wow I just read that story to my son a couple of days ago about the woman pouring the oil on Jesus and how the disciples were so upset because that oil could have been sold for so much money so the money could help the poor. But the way you just explained that at the end, completely made it come alive for me! Thank you for your precious wisdom!

Just LOVED your “something more” today! It made me think of Haggai chapter 1 where God is convicting the people to fix up and establish the temple. The people are striving so hard for their families but are finding no success because they have neglected the Lord’s house. I totally understand what you mean about the way ministers can overemphasize service in the church. I grew up watching the church my father pastored take advantage of his shepherd’s heart (and the handful of other individuals who did almost everything for the church). And I’ve been the mom who was guilted for not serving in a season where serving in church just was not an option. It’s so easy to go too far one way or the other. “To everything there is a season”. As long as we’re working as into the Lord in everything we do and being obedient to what He’s calling us to in our current season we can be confident that He will cause our work to prosper. ❤

I came back to this video after having some ideas go through my mind about notebooking. Im taking into account what you mentioned about not over-loading a child, so have you ever done a "notebooking day" once a week? (Dedicated to one subject that was focused on during the week). Not sure if that structure will work if information is forgotten by the end of the week.

Thank you for this video! Im excited to start notebooking with my kids. I sort of tried a few weeks ago, but I dont think my older daughter understood completely 😅 she looked a little confused as to why i was so excited lol. do you have a video that briefly explains it for kids? 😅 For my 7 year old thats mainly doing copywork for writing, i plan on having him draw a picture or pictures, then he will dictate what he wants to copy about books that he finishes :)
