FAQ:
Why ‘the religious hippie?’
It was a nickname my friends gave me when I was in highschool because I dressed like a hippie and was a ‘wild child’, when I came back into my faith they thought ‘the religious hippie’ was now a more appropriate nickname and it stuck!
Who is your favorite saint? Saint Francis of Assisi
Where do you live? Chicago

Thanks for your testimoney on home-schooling. Also dumb phones are the best option if you really really need to give your child a phone and depending on their maturity.it would also be mire affordable and not over stimulating like smart phones. May God give us the courage to pursue this tried and true path of homeschooling.

Amber Rose, you have so much wisdom for such a young woman. Thank you for this well thought out video. I couldn’t agree with you more. I’m blessed to be a stay at home homeschooling mother of 5, the youngest 17. I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything!❤

Thank you for talking about this! I’m a new subscriber. I’ve returned to my faith for a number of reasons but a main reason is for the future of my son (turning 3 in October). I’ve been a stay at home mom since his birth. He’s about to be in school and I’ve been debating on what to do. The social problems in the world and in the American public school system worry me. I would homeschool if I absolutely had to, but I do see benefits to a classroom environment. He is a little hard to teach sometimes because like you and many other kids, he is full of energy. He is always running/jumping/climbing etc. He is super attached to me (but that’s not shocking, I’ve been with him every day lol). About two weeks ago, I put him in the Catechesis of The Good Shepherd nido-toddler atrium in my town. I thought it would be a good way to ease into preschool, if we choose that route. They meet for 1.5 hours every Friday. It’s a mommy-and-me program for newborn to 3 y.o, and they implement Montessori techniques and toys in their curriculum. There’s a lovely elderly lady that runs the program and she is fantastic with all the kids. They teach the children to slow down and focus on doing things with intent… which I think is SO important, especially for my little one. Eventually the kids get curious about the Good Shepherd and find out he’s Jesus on their own 😊 It is such a wonderful program and I wish I knew about it 3 years ago when I was a new mom. It was nice to see other moms raising their children in the faith too. Sometimes social media makes you think you’re an outcast when in reality, there’s a community of good people, with family values, just down the street. 💜 Thank you for being such a good role model for young ladies amber rose ❤ I’ll be watching more of your videos and looking forward to your future content 🎉 😊

It comes down to the involvement of family at home. If you allow the state to raise your kid, your kid will belong to the state in all but name.

But given the average American’s pitiful math skills, I doubt most parents would be capable of teaching even something as simple as algebra 2, let alone trig, calculus I or II. Or they have skills in one thing but not the others. For instance, my dad is a chemist, but he doesn’t know or hasn’t used calculus in 40 years. So I am happy I was able to take up to calculus III in a public HS. It wasn’t a city school though thankfully.

@javierclement3047 The parents don't have to teach, but they should have the capacity to review the work and do it themselves as their child learns. The parents have to be involved with their child's education and encourage them to focus on their education by being active with them in their journey. The more parents are involved with their children, the more influence the parents have on their children. The concern is not the level of math they achieve. It is the atheist secular bs they push onto children through the school system.

@@N4m3B33alas, I agree with you. I don’t trust any of the schools (even the Catholic ones, although they’re better) in this current environment. And this makes me honestly terrified of having children, where I will forever be walking that fine line between luddite/helicopter parent and my child’s education and social interaction, which I believe they’re entitled to as well. I feel like it will forever eat inside my head the worry about them becoming atheists if they become too exposed, or atheists if they’re not exposed because they deemed my approaches regressive. It honestly sounds like a horrid nightmare to have children in this day and age. It’s as though my life will be reduced to worry, but I hope you have a better experience and can shed some positive light on the matter. I do have the capacity to homeschool given my graduate degree education and job level, but it seems honestly unfair that I will make them do that when I myself went through public schools (good ones) and honestly enjoyed it.

@javierclement3047 I want kids, I put off having a family to get an advance degree just so I could support a family and generate financial security to leave to them after I pass away. I am very injury prone during labor-intensive work, so I got a good desk job. Anyway, no right or wrong answer here. Every kid is different, and every game plan gets destroyed once the rubber meets the road. The key I'm going to try to do is be honest with my children so that they always trust me and prioritize their future by engaging in their lives as much as possible. It's vague but flexible. A solid foundation in faith and early education will guide them long-term more than anything else. By the time they are at confirmation, most of your job is done as a parent. At that point, it is more about introducing increasing levels of personal responsibility. That's my game plan, but I'm open to what my partner wants, too. Good luck and God Bless, we are commanded to have children by God. Have faith that it will be more rewarding than anxiety or worrying inducing. God would not command us to do something that is bad for us.

A tremendous commentary relating to the education of the the youth is John Milton's, Tractate of Education. He reiterates many of the points you made and expands them further. Definitely a recommended read.

Hello, i am a mom of 4. Two of my kids go to school and my 2 youngest, 5 and 7, are being homeschooled. What are your thoughts on taking my 9th grade high schooler out of school and homeschooling her or trying online? Ever since she started high school she has started hanging around girls who are a horrible influence on her. Not sure if i want to go into details here. I am quite sure she would fight me, but i am more than a little concerned. I don't think she is learning very much. She has a 75 minute lunch where i have no idea where she goes and what she does. She stopped telling me what she does. Anyway, Just Wondering your opinion because you mentioned to stop home schooling In high school. My son is in grade 6 and I'm starting to think. I may pull him out of school before high school as well. Thank you!

I would say definitely, the bad influences and poor quality education alone are reasons to do it. Ask other homeschooling groups for advice on how to transition quickly for a high schooler.

May I please humbly suggest to also consider your aptitude in all of high-school level calculus, trigonometry, functions, literature, physics, organic chemistry and chemical nomenclature? high school is such an important time because students are learning things that their parents aren’t always adept with anymore, and having the opportunity to learn those subjects to an extent comparable to what specialized math and science teachers offer is important so they have the option to go to college or university. Not that they have to continue on to college, trades are great, but just having a choice is so valuable.

I admit I am still bitter that my mom and dad put me in public school all my life, I know I should move on and not blame them, I don't hate them for it.... but public school really sucked for me. I hated it so much, and it was such a waste of time. Life would've been better had I been homeschooled and introduced to other homeschool Catholic communities instead of the secular ones. I suffered so much in public school. Guess the only thing I can do is offer it up.
