In 1980, I had my CB 750 in for service at the dealership I bought it at. They had a silver CBX on the floor and I was able to get a test ride. The first time I gave it full throttle it slid me way back on the seat. What a bike!!!!!!!!!!!

I had one just like this - bought it early 1980 (new) when I lived in South Africa - and had it for about a year and a half. Loved it... but the power scared me a bit. Bought a Suzuki 850G, and had that for just over 20 years. What you have achieved here is remarkable - and your passion and love for these fine classics is clearly evident. I salute you, good sir, for rescuing this lovely beast, and turning it back into a beauty. There's one in excellent condition for sale here in the UK - with an asking price of around £25,000. Yours is probably worth that - perhaps more!

Thank you Peter. Excellent and outstanding work. It is the necessary and definitive guide for those of us who want to keep these relics alive. I own a '78 CBX with serial number CB1-XXX1070, which actually needs some attention, with special mention to the first gear, which jumps any time. In addition carburators tune up, which has been the main headache since the beggining. The problem is that in Spain, these bikes never were selled from the official Honda shops due to import restrictions, so in the official site, they even have manuals and knowledge of how to repair them. I spent huge in mechanics in the hope they could find solutions. They just investigate with it and never find the right solution. With your glorious guide I am sure that I will be able to give my CBX the solutions it needs. Eternally grateful.

Great video thanks for posting, brings back great memories, I owned the first model released in silver/black, as I recall 104 HP at the crank, I heard shortly afterward HP was reduced to sell in EU due to legalities - sad. My first bike at 15 in 1965 was a used Honda 250 scrambler. From then on I’ve owned many Hondas as well as other brands, but that CBX was a super standout, one of my most memorable bikes, I loved the fact I could break the 55mph US national speed limit in first gear at 60mph. That thing had so much power for its day, and those 6 cyl’s, 6 carb’s, 6 exhaust pipes and 24 valves were just beautiful and very reliable, always in sync. Also amazing is how well balanced it was at very slow parking lot speed. Another one I truly kick myself for selling.

I almost cried looking at that mountain of motorcycles. What a waste! I can recognise some Hondas; some Yamahas and a Suzuki or two. Conversely I guess; it could be seen as a mountain of spare parts. I’m lucky enough to have been able to import and own an “A” model; and almost every day it’s a pleasure to walk into my garage and admire it. I’ve really enjoyed your series on the restoration of this lovely lady. You do such a wonderful job.

Hey thank you very much for an excellent series. I only recently discovered your site and had to watch it when it was on the legendary CBX. I have always desired a CBX from when they first came out but was never lucky enough to find one. I was interested to know how you pre-lubed the pistons and rings for the first start as if I recall you used CRC on them during assembly. I did not see any smoke when it fired and cleared it's throat. I would love to see a similar series on a Japanese two stroke of the day, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha it would make little difference. I have a Suzuki GT750 water cooled two stroke triple I have just started restoring and something like that would be terrific. Good on you. I'm sure you enjoyed the restoration. I did

NOS means New Old Stock. So in other words, they are parts that are new or never opened from the packing or used on the vehicle. They could be old stock or recent stock that has been discontinued.

@digitalpizza1
@digitalpizza1 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Taz, I bought the bike about 10 years ago for $500.00. I started the restoration about 4 years ago, but with long periods of time that I was not working on the bike. Most of the basic parts are original to the bike that I restored. I had many extra parts that I have accumulated over the past 20+ years, so I may have used some of those parts that need to be replaced. I also have picked up many NOS parts over the years, so its hard to say how much I have in those, but I estimate about 4 to 5K ( the nos sport kit was 2500.00 & the wheels were about 800.00 each) Other than that, I probably spent around 2 to 3K on misc. stuff and services i.e. Paint, Powder coating, Machine Shop, Tires, Battery, Chain, engine rebuild parts etc. So all told, I probably spent 6500.00 - 7500.00 on the restoration.

I noticed the bike before the restoration had huge pull back handle bars, Ive seen other U.S CBX's with them too, were they the standard bars for U.S bikes??
@digitalpizza1
@digitalpizza1 Жыл бұрын
Yes, US bikes had taller bars and more forward foot pegs. There was a sport kit available as an option that would be purchased at Honda parts departments that would convert it to the lower bars and rear set pegs like the bikes sold worldwide
@uhtred7860
@uhtred7860 Жыл бұрын
@@digitalpizza1 It seems a bizarre choice to fit on a sports bike, did many people refit the normal peg and bars? Other manufactures must have done it too, Years ago my brother dropped his GPZ900R (Ninja to Americans) and needed another bar, when it arrived and we put it on it was about 70mm (3") higher than the other, we took it back and the dealer said "Oh, they have sent us U.S spec bars by mistake".
