Before Hyundai can claim the Honda crown, there is one thing they have to do. They need to make truly special engines/powerplants. For instance, Honda is famous for their K series design, but Hyundai doesn't really have anything that hit that legendary status. Their designs look good, and they have come into their own and there are some special cars out there. This to me is the final step. And lately, Honda has stepped it up with the Type R. On a side note, both companies need to go with dual injection technology. Carbon buildup is an issue. Catch cans and seafoam do not cut it.

However, I’m rooting for Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis as they continue to glow up. I’m crossing my fingers for the day they have their “NSX moment” Imagine a Genesis-branded supercar that undercuts the new Vette in price but offers similar - or even, better -performance. (Also, if anyone from Honda/Acura is reading this… please stop calling the new ILX an Integra. First it was Mitsubishi with the Eclipse “Cross” and now you guys. Other manufacturers are guilty as well *cough* Chevy “Blazer”. It’s a damn shame. 🤦‍♂️ I’m sure they’ll sell but many of the real enthusiasts - that can afford new versions of the cars we had back then - are not buying it.)

JD Powers? If you believe that marketing crap, I got a bridge or two to sell you. Look at the recent non-profit Consumer Report on most and least reliable brand. All the Japanese brands including Subaru and Nissan and even American brand like Buick were more reliable than Hyundai, Kia or Genesis. The latter of two which were in the bottom 10 least and worst reliability vehicle. Genesis was particularly bad as they were ranked 4th lowest. Let us not forget Hyundai is an automaker/chaebol who hides recalls and only after brave whistleblower both in the US and Korea came out and the South Korean police RAIDING their office and started investigation are they forced to do recall and they are still hiding some issues with the newly introduced Smartstream engine lineup. Thus, they won't get my business as they are the same corrupt chaebol but now they have "so much tech and features" to hide behind. No Dr. Alberto "Mr. BMW" Beerman or styling or advertising can fool anyone

Nah but Honda reliability is still untouchable. Hyundai did get better but they're still nowhere near Honda/Toyota in that regard. Honda only started making boring cars because that's what the market wanted especially due to rising gas prices. But even their boring cars have the distinction of being highly customizable. You can turn virtually any Honda into a 300hp+ car. They're very easy to customize and the engines can handle it. Not many other engines can handle extra horsepower on top of stock horsepower.

Great video! I own a 2019 Veloster Turbo(1.6T 201CHP) and this video just made me fall in love with my car again. I think if I had any say in what Hyundai should do, it would be to focus on designing a better DCT(or put the 8 speed wet dct in all cars) I feel like they already have a great manual transmission, but that DCT would dominate it if they get it right. Other than that, I am sad to see the VT2 to go away, by far one of the coolest cars to own for me. Literally to make that car fun, its only stiffer engine/trans mounts, sway bars/brace, grippy tires, and an intercooler resonator delete and BAM!!! you got yourself a good little hatch. I feel like you should have mentioned Hyundai's possible mid-engine hatch they're making, would have been a good way to end off the Hyundai section.
