Honda P0341. Camshaft Position Sensor Incorrect Phase Detected
.
This is a very generic and common code that can be difficult to diagnose. Multiple reasons for the code.
1, faulty sensor
2, stretched timing chain
3, VTC actuator malfunction.
NOTE:
In the video I referenced that item as actuator/solenoid..
the actual correct name is VTC oil control valve.
In this video.. #3 VTC oil control valve was the issue. The oil control piston was getting stuck.. So we did a little modification to the solenoid. Hope this video helps. Enjoy.
UPDATE. it's been about 3 months now and the CRV is running without issues after this mod.
Note. recently on a separate vehicle with a misfire. checked the spark plugs and coils which were fine. did a valve adjustment and it fixed the problem.
Update. Oct.20,2021

A friend was dealing with a p0340 cel (not p0341) code some weeks back on his kswapped eg civic that we couldn’t figure out (cam timing was on point, replacing cam sensors didn’t fix it, wiring was good/brand new), we then stumbled upon this video but didn’t perform the suggested washer stacking tip, he did press the end of the spring cap down with a pick and heard a pop and figured the spring became unseated from being a high mileage sensor. Reinstalled and went for a test drive and p0340 was gone! No symptoms of a wonky or dying idle or sputtering vtec crossover afterwards. Thanks for this vid 👌

Oh also, it seems that Honda makes different versions of the VTC solenoid inner body. For instance, the one I have doesn’t have the tip like shown in your video where you can disassemble it from the tip. Mine has a completely sealed tip 😢

I had this code and my car had a random misfire and I did exactly what this video shows and it fixed the issue after I checked my cam sensors and crank sensor I decided to try this and it actually fixed the issue! I want to say thank u to the guy that made this video because I was lost if I didn't see this I was going to pull my engine SMH please don't listen to the other comments that say it doesn't work because it absolutely can be the issue!!

@@UncleTinman absolutely. as an american, i would buy a new one myself, but i watched bc it was fascinating to see how simply and elegantly you fixed it. i also never actually knew what was going on inside a solenoid. works mostly like a switch with the piston being the throw. thanks for sharing this.

I wish you lived in the San Francisco bay area. My Honda CRV 2013 has the engine light on with a P0341. I have already had a new vtc solenoid put in (before that, other lights were also on: 85-01, C0100, 83-11). According to two mechanics, the next step is putting in a new cam shaft positioning sensor -A (input). My fear is that then, the engine light still won't go off. Then the next step is Timing Chain / VTC actuator. I have only 58,000 miles on the car and I bought it new. Evidently, getting maintenance whenever the sensors tell you is no longer adequate. Mechanics have told me that with the synthetic oil, it should be changed every 5,000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first. Hoo boy. So I'm hoping to just trade it in, and be done with it. But first, could you advise me on where to buy the cam shaft positioning sensor -A specifically for Honda, if I try to go one step further with this car? Again ... I wish you were in the bay area. I really like your approach to fixing something.

@@UncleTinman did a full diagnosis and seems to be the chain stretch unfortunately. Should I replace the solenoid while I'm in there?( (Plan on getting tensioner, guides, cam gear etc... Anyways). Also reading I should do the water and fuel pump while I have access . Thanks for the advice
@UncleTinman
@UncleTinman 10 ай бұрын
@@eidenspysznyk5075 the solenoid is external so it wouldn't be hard to replace later on if it fails. I think when you said fuel pump, you're referring to oil pump. Normally wouldn't change the pump assembly unless there's an issue. Although you can for extra peace of mind. Hope this helps.

P0341 is for the cam position sensor and crank position sensor not reading together. It would mean a stretched timing chain. Anybody following this information is wasting their time and possibly wrecking their vehicle.
@Saroeumyim
@Saroeumyim 4 жыл бұрын
P0341 is very vague code. It could be anything from stretch timing chain, weak chain tensioner, worn out guides, two cams position sensors is too dirty, loose or misalign cams magnetic pulsate gears bolted at driver side, too thick of an engine oil not supplying lubrication sufficiently to and through the vvt solenoid piston properly or it can get stuck due of dirty screen, which in turns causes the intake cam vtc actuator to auto advance greatly to accommodate oil pressure and viscosity to a point, and that will throw the code p0341 or p0011 (cam position range/performance/ too advanced). ANY of these components can go bad, not just the chain. If there is an ongoing code that wouldn't go away , the pcm must be recalibrate...that is by starting up the car from a cold (never from warmed) and rev the rpm to 3k until the second time the fans kick on, turn car off for one minute and restart again then it's all set.
@UncleTinman
@UncleTinman 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the detailed break down explaining. I had that code and this is the method I used to remedy the issue without having to replace the VTC actuator.
@topnotch8432
@topnotch8432 3 жыл бұрын
This part of the comment regarding "this information is wasting their time.." is incorrect because the honda manual states to check this FIRST (If you do not have a scantool) simply using a 12v source to the right(2) male terminal and a ground to the left(1) male terminal on this part. If it moves more than 1.2mm it is OK- if it does not it needs to be replaced. You check the timing after checking the solenoid valve. Page 11-247 & 11-248 for po341.
