I keep a paperclip in my toolbox to put in the tensioner to keep it locked. Works everytime.

I have a loud tapping sound on my 2006 honda 500fm foreman. It only does it when the motor get to it temperature and when i let off the gas and the motor idels down it makes a loud noise

When you took the cam out, did you have to do anything with the lifter caps (if it has them, 03 honda rancher 350 4x4) or did you take the jug off and whatnot?

I have a foreman 450 and it has a ticking noise and I have already figured out its not the valves. And I believe it's the timing Chain but thanks for the video but I wish you showed taking off the case and everything

Hey solitude man, what do you do when you go and start tightening down the clutches on the Honda 300... just wondering cause I've heard people say just tighten it down with a impact until it barely passes the old stake. Do you whip out the torque wrench or do what i just said... I've not actually seen a video where anyone show them doing it and I'm wanting to hear how and what you gotta say about it, thanks for the help

I have a 2013 Honda foreman 500 electric shift and has a 30% gear reduction and it will not shift but it used to shift and go into negative mode but now won’t do anything do you think it’s the reduction or the shift motor?

do you have a video of what it sounded like when it was baf cause i have a 2017 rubicon and its making a ticking noise still after honda adjusted the valves and i really dont know what it could be

@@Solitude313 from what I'm reading online you only take head off to get the cam guides out.so they dont fall in the motor. But going to stick my magnet down n grab em.some say they stay on the pushrods when u pull them out

Tanner Young Kind of tough to say. Maintenance is key, Oil and Valve Clearance.

I ran my ATV while it was overheating without realizing a few times which I’m sure didn’t help. I did change the oil pretty regularly (ever 3-4 rides) but I admit I slacked off a bit when I knew I was about to take it to solitude to work on it.

I'm looking at buying a 2014 Honda Rancher 420, and the dude says that is needs a timing chain with about 900 miles. Changing oil is key to keep stuff like that going.

Hello sir. I have a rancher 350 and I was riding it and it started to smoke real bad out the crank case breather. And it won’t crank anymore. Any idea what happened or what caused it?

Rings are probably shot... the smoking from the crank vent is blow by from the rings... I'd say you lost to much compression

Can you change timing chain without taking the top end apart?

Not that I have seen, every video shows the head at least removed. This is so that you can remove the cam followers because they will fall down into the block if you don't remove them when you pull the cam. Then you have to tear down the block to get them out. Its best to pull the engine and work on it on the bench so to speak. Once you remove the head pull the push rods and mark them as exhaust and intake. Then with a magnet removal tool retrieve the cam followers and make sure they go back in the same holes as well as the push rods. DO NOT REMOVE THE CAM UNLESS YOU REMOVE THE CAM FOLLOWERS FIRST. Then remove the clutch basket and the primary, put back together in reverse order. Yeah I know that sucks but by the time you remove the head, which means new gaskets and such, you may as well remove the engine that way you can inspect the piston, valves etc in case it did jump time and bent a valve. I am getting ready to order all the parts on mine because it jumped time which means timing chain jumped a tooth and hopefully did not bend a valve.

@@todd4625 appreciate you taking time, I actually got the foreman and a trade and he just rebuilt it, but for some reason he put old parts back in. The motor is in the atv bit I have the front case cover off and everhing off . Timing chain was so worn i got it off without taking out the cam . Reason i opened it was to replace one way bearing. Saw the timing chain and nee I had to change that too. Mine was running fine but I cant slap it together knowing bad parts are in it . I mite try to put it on the rear rack and remove valve cover and use magnets to hold up cups .

@@NorthFloridaOutdoorsman You could change the chain without removing the top end on this engine. Just set TDC and check periodically.

@@Solitude313 ok so I removed the have cover and removed the intake push rod . Got a magnet stick and help the intake cup up and pulled the cam out just enough to get the chain on. Worked like a charm if someone else does it like this I recommend the way I did it . Thanks again

What would you budget as far as time to do this replacement?

It's pretty extensive. Front diff gotta slide forward, the whole front case then clutch. Maybe 4hrs shop time.

@@Solitude313 thanks! my timing chain broke a little while ago, I now have the parts in and will be moving forward with it tomorrow (I have a mechanic hired to do it). Any suggestions or lessons learned?
