I've always wanted this bike. If this year goes well I will buy one, give it a good going over, then leave my wife every weekend. She won't see me from Friday afternoon until Sunday night. That's my plan! Right now she goes antique shopping every Sunday (which I hate), and I go golfing every Sunday (which she hates). After 27 years of marriage, I need this bike. I'm certain she would be happy about it. Everyone needs their space. I'll probably come home early one day to find the mailman wearing my bathrobe, but that would be fine with me. I'd say "Take over the note, and she is yours !!" I'd jump back on my ST1300 and go enjoy life like God intended.

Bought mine new in 2002. Over 200k miles to date, and whilst I run a few bikes, the ST1300 is probably the best two wheeled conveyance on the road! I've ridden them all, and some do things better than the Pan, but overall, it's the best!

I rode a Pan on a test day run by Honda. It was marshalled by motorcycle cops. A Pan can boogie with sportier bikes and handles very well considering it's size. I tried the same with a Gold Wing and nearly embedded myself in a hedge. Never underestimate a good rider on a Pan European.

My 04 ST has a 160,000 km and has been nothing short of bullet proof. The stock seat is miserable but I reworked it and high speed stability is only an issue if you ride solo with the top case, remove it and you’ll have no problem. Great bike all around.
@GlideYNRG

Second that with removing the top case. I've had my previous 04 model up to around 160 and whilst not a scary ride, had some experiences that drove home the aerodynamic shortcomings the top box induced. Not an issue with knowledge.. 😁

I had a 2003 and a 2009 ST1300. I put a bit over 100k miles on both. Great tourer. Absolutely reliable as a Boulder. I tried maybe five different windscreens trying to get a more quiet ride. Wind noise was horrid. I never could find that top box you have here in the states. It’s likely discontinued but I heartily recommend the Fairing Deflector kit for better rain and wind protection. One thing should be made clear: the author says the Goldwing is a big bike and the ST1300 is better. The ST1300 is a huge bike. Both of mine were over 700 lbs and carried that weight high. I gave up on my last one because my 73 year old legs were having trouble holding it up at a light. I went to the heavier Goldwing because it has a lower seat and carrys it’s weight lower.

Thanks for the comprehensive review. I've had three ST13's as my favorite all-time bike. Tried to replace with RT's and K16's but oddly never liked as well as ST1300. Mine has full Race-Tech suspension which transforms the ride. It has the best seat-peg distance for riders with knee or back pain, much like my adventure bikes. Nothing except the K16 comares in terms of knee angle in the ST category. I'm incredibly disappointed Honda didn't update with a VFR1200T as rumored.

@@orhansogut5492 No wobble at all on the ST1300 and I've owned 3. In fairness I never ride with a trunk case, and I use a shorter but wider wind shield. The stock version creates a back pressure forcing you forward. I also used aftermarket suspension for far superior handling. Stock ST's are typically undersprung and overdampened. I use Race-Tech front springs and gold values, and replaced the rear shock. Transformed the ride. Used ST's are very affordable so I didn't feel too bad about spending $$$ on suspension. Good luck!

The instability issue only occurred by overloading the rear luggage, and was cured by a number of small changes to the engine mounts and a new crash bar on the left hand side - a recall kit was made available for older bikes, and after 2004 the problem was dealt with in manufacture. Hence the number of these bikes used round the world for emergency and service purposes.

How is it possible that some folks still don’t know why Honda included the small LCD below the TFT? It’s because while using CarPlay or Android Auto, the TFT loses the ability to display basic bike data like speed, gear indicator and trip info. So they give you that info below. Isn’t this fairly obvious? Just look at the image of the TFT displaying Android Auto in your own video. Do you see any bike specific data on the s TFT? And yet still after a couple of years on the market, some reviews still point out the LCD and ask “why???”. Did you even bother to ask before you criticized it?

I randomly discovered this model recently, then got sucked into the sports touring fad of decades gone with the FJR1300, Concourse 14, BMW R1200RS, Moto Guzzi Norge, and last but not least, the Triumph Trophy SE. That bike is what I would buy. The Trophy has all the comfort, very long range and low fuel consumption, 137hp 3-cylinder engine with character, all the electronics (from 2014), nice luggage, power ports from front to back, at a used price that's not too far from the Honda ST anymore. The Honda just lacks cruise control and heated grips and the dash looks very dated now.

This model shown has got OE heated grips, controlled by the little panel on the left hand side of the fairing below the fairing glove box lid. At some cost, you can add cruise control from a company called MCCruise, in Australia, but I agree about the dash - does its job, but is dated.

I once drove the st1300 and FJR1300 side by side. The FJR1300 is so much sportier.

They look really nice but a bit wider I think than the ST. My mechanic said he thought plastics a bit low quality comparitively. What puts me off the triumph is it is a bit of an orphan - only about 15 in the country and only seen one for sale which has not moved for a year. Not perhaps an issue in bigger markets close to UK, but I'd worry about spares and their cost in smaller ones.

Honda has blown it again. A great engine company that cant make great engines anymore. While every buyer wants decent power to tour with, Honda pumps out parralell twins that don’t compete in performance with any major manufacturer. Now we get a sports touring bike that cant sport and has less power than they had a decade ago. Thanks but no thanks Honda.

Never sell your ST1300. It will last forever and keep its value. Enjoy every moment of your Honda ST1300. This bike pulls like a train and is very agile.

I had one. It was a big disappointment. Horrible gear whine, clunked into first gear even though I replaced the clutch, no gear position indicator, no 6th gear, dashboard like an 80's arcade game, handlebars too low. Worst of all, it's predecessor the ST1100 was way ahead of it's time so it was a real disappointment to find the ST1300 was way behind the times. They're cheap because they're not very good.

Are you sure you even had a bike...the majority of bikes clunk going into gear. No gear indicator!!! Can you not count to 5!!?? You can easily ad one yourself and why you would even need it is beyond me. The whine you are hearing is your constant negativity.. 1980s arcade dashboard!! Most bikes from this era have similar dashs. No sixth gear, the torque spread of the engine is so good you only need 5 gears. Handle bars too low... Put some risers on it, the bike isn't tailor made for everyone. Cheap because they're not good. Honda sold millions of the Pans. This bike has circumnavigated the globe. A fantastic machine.. I suggest you stay away from motorcycles as clearly you haven't a clue what youre talking about.

@@Team-fabulous The ST has chain driven cams, not gear driven cams. The whine is caused by the straight cut gear from the crank to the clutch. Honda did not sell millions of pans. In North America (their biggest market) they sold barely more than 2000 per year at the most. And you accuse me of not having a clue? Extraordinary you come out with so much 💩without having a single clue yourself.
