Had my ST for thirty years now, thought about getting something else but but the ST just does the job so well.

I am a retired police officer and I bought my 2000 ST100AY in 2006 - I still have it, and it has just had new cam belt, tensioner etc during a major overhaul. You're right that ST owners look after their machines. Mine has 54000 miles on it and people tell me it's not run in properly yet 🤔

I enjoyed your video, great commentary! I'm 50 so it's not an old man bike, just a smart man's bike! I just picked up a 2012 ST1300 (in the USA they aren't called the Pan) with 5,500 miles on it in mint condition for 8 grand U.S. What a fantastic motorcycle! The last owner made a big mistake by not putting more miles on this awesome machine, but it's a big win for me!!

Just a few points of correction: the 1100s swing arm is NOT made of dog shite, it’s actually a very sturdy, very thick, very heavy piece of iron. The problem is the bad design of the rear mudguard which inexplicably ends 6 inch’s above the front of the swing arm. This has a habit of throwing water, and salt water in winter, thrown up by the rest tire, onto the swing arm. It gets inside the spaces created by the strengthening gussets and rots it away. The solution is to make your own mudguard extension to close this gap and direct this water back to the road. Also, refinish the swingarm, rust proof it and seal the gaps in the gussets with a flexible compound. This problem also rots the bottom of the fuel tank and destroys the air cooled alternator. I’ve had 2 1100s and done this upgrade to both. They both lost their alternators before I could prevent damage. I also own a 1300 and it’s my go to bike. Love the adjustable screen and fuel injection.

Let's be honest, ALL Honda's are extremely reliable to the point of being bulletproof and extremely easy to ride. You might say they lack 'character'. But if all you want is to get on your bike and ride, without a worry in the world, you get a Honda. And with the Pans, they made the mistake of making them too perfect, just as you said. They may not have all the latest German gizmo's, or the Italian 'character', but they make up for it in reliability and ease of use.

Excellent review of what is almost a perfect bike. I’m almost 66 and had the ST1100 for years and it was a superb bike but the ST1300 is a better bike with a fantastic motor and a better chassis without all the old idiosyncrasies of the older bike. My 2004 ST1300 cost me £4000 six years ago and your right it is hard to change to a better bike because it’s hard to find a modern bike that does the job better. Anyhow we’ll said and an excellent little video.

Love your reviews mate. I am buying an 01 ST 1100 tomorrow, I have had a very similar bike journey as yourself so relate 100%. At 56 it is time I stop riding the bikes I wanted as I grew up and could not afford them. The last bike was a 2000 model ZX6R, so yeah time for a good all-rounder to quench my riding thirst. After all, Australia is a big country to tour with lots of cake and sausage rolls with good coffee or tea.

Had the 1100 for 6 months. Sold it back to my mate who’s still got it. Put 63,000 KM’s on it. Then bought the ST1300. Got to 100,000 then sold it (high mileage). Then no2 ST1300 crashed into a mini bus stopped on the highway picking up passengers! At 93,000kms. Took 2 yrs to get back on the road. So I bought no3. Sold it 2 yrs ago with 206,000 odd KM’s on it. Now no 3 has over 240,000 KM’s on it and the guy won’t sell it. No 2 now has over 210,000 KM’s on it. Still going strong. On the weave issue; I’ve had someone with the problem and sorted it for him. Pumped the tyres up to 2,9F and 3,1R and increased the rebound using the knob. His bike became very stable. He’s happy. And just for interest my other friend had a GL11000 gold wing, that one day, while we were ridding together almost threw his from a bad wobble. You see the ST1300 has a short wheelbase, so it corners the outside of my boots off, and handles like a Suzuki RGV250. But you must have it sorted to do high speeds. I’ve done a 560km trip, from Johannesburg to Durban, in 2hrs and 20 mins and a run from Johannesburg to CT in under 9 hours for the 1650 KM’s trip. So it can haul ass. Now I’ve been there and don’t need to do that. PS I also tow a 6ft car trailer using a hitch I designed. Looks crazy handles ok. The windshield issues come from the lube on the sliders. Keep them lubed and you won’t have problems. I use Motala oil and have a washable K&N air filter. Keeps maintenance costs down. Recently replaced the front brake rotors with ones from fleabay. All good. So in total done over 500,000 KM’s on the ST1300 and previously over half a million on my old GL1100s. Boring bike? Well not really. They are just sublime. Oh yes and can wheelie them quite easily 😮 Great bikes.

If you haven't tried all of the seat adjustment settings give them a try. It feels like a totall different bike just by moving the seat a little. A couple of complaints that won't affect you in the UK. When it is really hot out (90F and higher), the ST1300 is brutally hot to ride. I had a "summer" windscreen that I had cut down very short to use in the summer. Also, where there are high side winds, the ST1300 has so much plastic body work that it can be hard to handle. I'm from the Midwest in the US, and have ridden the ST1300 in 50mph gusty side winds and it is not fun. Cheers!

Because EVERYONE is different, with different taste, there are those that prefer the ST1100 over the ST1300 (yes, I'm in the US) and those that prefer the ST1300. I'm in the later group. I bought my "1st" ST1300 (a 2005 model) in late November 2005. At the time I was commuting off/on 100 miles a day. By November 2008, I changed jobs and started riding that ST1300 daily for a 125 miles commute. That added the miles on fast. So between then and March 2020, when I was sent home to work, my commuting had stopped. By then I had 5 different ST1300s. The first and last were new when bought, the other three were wrecks, that I restored and rode. Mileage on them: '05: 174.3K, '04: 37K -parked in 2015 due to waterpump fail - (just got it back on the road), '10: 95K -now has over 100K, '04#2: 50K - sold to a buddy, and a '12 - 35K. Currently I have over 397K miles on these bikes and I have no plans to sell any of them, just due to the fact, folks don't want to "pay" for them. They expect everyone to just give them away @ a cheap price. I'm actually hoping that they just might gain in value, now that more and more people are getting interested in them. In the meantime, I'll just ride them when I can! ;)

I have just bought the ST1300 A-6 in white in good condition with 21000 miles on the clock for £4500. I'm 39 and going to do my advanced course in Jan. Last year I did the NC500 and the Lake District on my CB650R, which was a lot of fun but I reckon it would have been way more comfortable on the ST1300. I've had it for about a month and I've been tinkering with it since then. New Pirelli Angel GT tyres, reconditioned electrics, more comfortable seat cover, handlebar riser, fairing wind deflectors, rear crash bars, LED lighting, dashboard lighting revamp, heated grips, grip puppies, all the fluids flushed out and replaced, fully serviced and stripped and engine conditioned. Comfortable and fast.

I get your point. The bikes are well crafted, reliable, and comfortable. Nothing today exceeds these values. So they did make a high point machine. Wise video, perhaps the wisest I've watched, Jonny Lee. However...this was a home run for Honda in every respect CERTAINLY NO MISTAKE...they always move one to betterland. (Concerned about yer spin rumptink.)

Just picked up a 2011 in really good nick (but high mileage) for £2200. It was from an old boy who has had it since new and taken it to Europe twice a year but is finally giving up bikes. Exactly the scenario you are talking about here really: a bike for life. Only ridden it the 100 miles home so far but I might actually be in love. It cruised so competently on the motorway with the screen up that I was expecting to be very underwhelmed once I got to the fun bits. I really wasn't. It overtakes so effortlessly even in top gear, and it corners better than my blackbird ever did...

I've been riding mine since about 2013 - a 2005 bike. I've done 65000 miles on it. Wonderful bike, like an old sofa you never want to get rid of. I agree with you that it is the perfect motorbike - they are getting rarer and rarer. A decade from now, if not already, they will be in the collector market. I was also pleased to see that even a 2005 Pan ST1300 will pass the London Ulez requirements - if you have one, get the certification from Honda. Its just a bit of paperwork. Also they are very heavy on the clutch in city traffic - worth mentioning. Thanks for a great video.

I just picked up today a 1 owner 2005 ST1300 in mint condition, not a scratch with just 20,500 miles. Love it. Can't believe it's condition and super low miles

I ride a 2015 ST1300 and a 2020 HD Street Glide 114ci Special and yes you have guessed correctly the Pan is a keeper the HD not so much.The Pan will be kept forever as my riding trophy.

I'm on my 6th pan euro now. 3 1100s and 3 1300s. Best machines ive ever ridden and ive been a motorcyclist for 52 years. They do everything you could want from a motorbike. Performance, handling and great milage from those big tanks. No show just a proper m,bike made for professional motorcyclists.

Great review. Thanks. I've had my 06 for 10 years. I previously toured on Goldwings but much prefer the ST for riding enjoyment and ergonomics. Just fits me better. Crisscrossed Canada and the US several times and it's been wonderful. It's made to tour not knock around town and it's definitely not a warm weather bike. Heading from Toronto to Alaska later this summer, super excited. I'd recommend the Bike Quip wide screen for any tall riders experiencing buffeting. I can ride with the screen at its lowest setting, not looking through it and have zero buffeting.

I couldn't agree more, I bought my ST1300 in 2008 new, It is a 2006 model. I didn't like the color of the 2008 edition. Mine is black, I think it is the best color. No ABS, I didn't know better. Yet, I have never been more happy and proud of my bike and I have enjoy every bit of her. I have put over 40K miles on her. I still baby her. At one point I thought of selling it because I'm not riding as much, but I couldn't. Some years back, I used to ride with my ex. One day she told me, I can forgive you anything but if you ever sell this bike I will never forgive you. She and I didn't make it, but I still have my ST1300. She still looks great and I still get compliments on how good she looks ( my ST, not my ex... lol). There are a few things that she needed as upgrades, like cruise control, self canceling turn signals, LED head and rear lights, heated grips, modified the stock seat to be more comfortable in longer trips, insulation on the headers to minimize heat, specially during summer rides and that's about it. She is a beautiful motorcycle and does everything right. I have even gone off the tarmac exploring and she made it through just fine. As much as logic dictates, I cannot let her go, what can I say... By the way, I wouldn't think that was Honda's mistake, I think that is why it lasted so long without any modifications. It is a great bike even today. I think that is what Honda means, and I hope they continue to develop products that way. They are good looking and very long lasting. I think as a consumer, changing that moto would be a much much bigger mistake. I also own other Honda products like automobiles and generators and they are just as dependable and great. Therefore, in my view, they did just fine!

I stopped at a Honda dealership in the middle of Minnesota on my Buell - they let me take an ST1300 out and I almost traded my ride in on the spot. Looking back, I should have - best bike I ever rode!

Own a 2011 from new. It does everything well. Only complaint it’s a bit heavy in the really tight twisty roads. But out on smooth touring roads it’s a dream. Love it 😍

Your right, he does it all, and much better than all rest. Bought it in 1992 new, 30 years from know and he's doing marvelous. Hope to continue another 10 years and then I've got 71. Probably a good time to stop. Can't think of a day without him.

Jonny!! Had an ‘03 ST1300 for almost 5 years. An absolute beauty of a machine. Wished it had cruise control … but the electronic windshield still is the BOSS! Road like a charm! Fast. Comfortable. Had to sell it for some college bills for my kids … 2 years ago got a ‘07 Goldwing! Can’t believe how great it rides!!! … just miss that electronic windshield!! I use it everyday it is absolutely my favorite bike of all time. im gonna keep it. I love it, and here in Texas we ride all year round.. im 58 and yes it is an old mans sport bike, its graceful and looks amazing, and I find a lot of youngsters that ask if they can sit on it... Totally agree...I had an ST1100 (on your recommendation Johnny!!😂) til last July..the engine (huge miles) blew on me😮😮..it ticked boxes that I didn't even know existed for bikes.. Collecting a 52,000 mls ST1300 tomorrow and I just can't wait for the ride home. There's literally nothing these bikes aren't suitable for...maybe the desert..Ill never know..but they're the absolute best all rounder bike I can conceive of. The St1300 is a work horse. It goes and goes and goes. Nothing too exciting but it does many miles without issue.

Fabulous Bike and great review/video, I almost bought a St1300 but had to rethink as I have had a Total Knee Replacement and the weight plus our driveway is a long gravel one, so I compromised and got myself the NT-700, so now I have a trio of Hondas, 1979 CB550/4, CB500X and the very comfortable NT-700, stay safe and enjoy that Pan.

I think you are onto something, i.e. "the perfect bike". I owned mine for 15 years here in Australia. The best bike I have ever owned. Now in my mid 60's, the static weight was getting hard to handle so I recently sold it. Supremely comfortable and handles great for a big heavy bike. Great vid.

my only complaint about Honda and the ST1300 is that they couldn'tbe bothered to do the engineering and engine redevelopment to make to make euro 5 compliant which is why they stopped making it. The detuned 1300lump in the CTX 1300 was Hondas attempt at meeting the emmisions regs'. That bike bombed. Honda seem to abandon redeveloping their motorcycle engines unlike their cars for whatever reason. They shot themselves in the foot by not competing directly with the BMW RT 1200 / 1250 series and continuing its develooment. I am convinced that on quality grounds alone the ST1300 would have eventually out shone and outsold the RT's. Having ridden both the RT's build quality is appalling and they are a swine to keep looking good and cost stupid money to service either as DIY or at a dealer. As qualified technician trained bike mechanic the ST is actually one of the best and easiest bikes I have ever had for self servicing, and maintainence. Yep, you're right it is the perfect motorcycle that was left by Honda to get left behind. Would I sell mine? Offer me what I think it's really worth and not what the book says its worth and I will tell you to wait until the next ST 1300 competitor comes to the market. My bike is 16years old and still almost as good as the day it left the show room with 43000 miles on the odo'. It has never had any mechanical issues. I havn't reached state retirement age yet but I am keeping mine too.

I agree with your theory. I owned a ST1100 for more than 20 years. It's a bulletproof bike. I sold mine as I completely fell in love with the VFR1200F but I loved the ST1100 which, in my experience, was also more stable on higher speeds than the ST1300 but both are fabulous. Happy riding! BTW: good choice on the tyres. Bridgestones are definitely not the best tyres for this bike!

I had two St1300s and put 100k on both. I towed a Leesurlite after I’d had the 2003 for six years and was tired of sleeping on the ground. I found them both pretty noisy to ride. Aside from that and being a little tall in the saddle. That’s what led me to get a Goldwing. At 74 the ST1300 was more topheavy and the GW is pretty stable I loved the Saddlebags, they are huge and come off the bike so easily. My first came with a Corbin saddle that was a bit hard. I bought. $40 Beadrider cover and long mile days were easy. My 2nd ST was a 2009 and a pretty red color. It rode more planted than the 2003 did and running along at 90mph was effortless. I added the fairing deflector kit for better rain protection and a windscreen with a lip to push the wind up. Couldn’t have enjoyed a bike more. That said, I’m very happy with the 2015 GW. Other than range it’s all the tourer the ST could be.

Great commentary about the ST1100, I had one of these bikes and could not believe how comfortable it was to ride.

Did you ever address the main complaint? I gave up after 16 minutes. I'll share my PAN WEAVE story. I bought my 1992 three years ago with 65K miles. It seemed huge at first after being on a 1986 KZ1000 for years. On the ride home I was doing 65-70 in fairly heavy interstate traffic and was loving it until I caught the wind behind an 18 wheeler. I was buffeted all over my lane and it scared the shit out of me, the KZ never did that. Arriving home I did the online search and learned about the Pan Weave. One comment suggested removing the top pannier which I did straight way. I could not believe the massive improvement in stability when confronted by buffeting winds of various kinds. I have never replaced the top pannier and it will go with a warning if I ever sell the bike. Cheers.

I’ve owned two Harley Electra Glides and put A LOT of miles on them two up. I’ve currently got a 2006 ST 1300 with 10,000 miles on it. It does Everything better than the Harleys. Way roomier two up with a much better ride. And, you would have to spend a shit load of motor money on your Harley to even try to keep up with these 1300’s. Up grade the seats to a Sargent seat set and upgrade the exhaust to a Delkevic and you’re pretty close to the perfect bike.

PERFECTION - Just picked up a 2002 in mint condition - 48000 on the clock - I was given 'Mates Rates' so under £3000 - I am age 65 and the Pan has always been on my bucket list - sits lovely next to my 1992 HD-FLSTC Heritage Classic ----------- What a fantastic Pair both entirely different rides but both are classics - COOL I previously had a 1200 Trophy and find the ST1300 lighter and more nimble in terms of road handling. I also totally agree the Pan brakes are excellent for such a heavy (weight) machine - my butt will never forget the first time I needed to slam them on hahahahaha

I own a 2023 Hayabusa. I often get asked how fast it goes and I always answer "It does the limit". Bikes like the Hayabusa and the mighty ZZR1400 (I had a 2020 model) are about much more than just speed.The Pan is a great bike but I would rather have a Wing (I have owned 2) if I want a dedicated touring machine. If I was looking for something more upright I would personally choose the mighty FJR over the Pan. Nonetheless, enjoyed this video...

I have to admit that I really liked the Pan' & I really wish that Honda had updated & continued making it. I probably would've bought one if I'd been able to get one new in 2021, but ended up with a Tracer 9gt which felt KINDA like an updated Pan' but with a sportier edge. I just wish Honda had stuck with the ST1300 instead of going for that NT1100.

In my opinion, the reason that the Pan did not sell well was that Honda wanted to protect its Gold Wing sales. Therefore, the Pan had little or no advertising, nor much updating. A shame, really. I had my 2004 ST1300 ABS (Pan) for 5 years, riding over 50K miles. A very good bike, spoiled by poor suspension with too little fork rake, and too dim lighting. I added a Penske shock with a 1300 pound spring to the rear, and Race Tech fork dampers with Sonic, 1.2Kg/mm springs to the front. That raised the front-end about one inch (dynamic sag), and the back-end about one-half inch. That, and PIAA 910 lights on Seng mounts, and fog lights mounted on the tip-over covers made 75 mph cruising at night a joy. Perfect!

I on number 2 st1300 now.I tried a k1600gt with reverse gear because of a bad knee. Couldn't wait to get rid of it and back to a pan again. Honda ,make a new one ,ill buy one.

I have driven my 2006 ST1300 with the Pan European Top case that has that small spoiler and the 3rd Brake light, took her up to 150 mph on a smooth highway in Arizona and no wobble or anything......I did have the V- Stream windshield on the down position, and was flat on the tank......she runs simply perfect.....

Yup, I have a 1999 ST1100 , bought a new 2019 Goldwing tour. Still have a difficult time deciding which one to ride.

What a beauty! As you ride both the ST1100 and the ST1300, what rides better? Do you notice the fuel tank being higher up on the ST1300? I love the ST1100 for its handling and wonder if the ST1300 is just as good... Thank you!

Great vid...I had a ZX14 and a 07 Harley Dyna super glide....I bought an 05 ST to offset the mileage off of the Dynaglide. My first impression was the ST was super boring. Yup, the Honda engineering is next to none. The motor is a sewing machine versus to ZX14 beast...but this bike grows on you....it is quick but not in a loud way....it doesn't do anything spectacular but it does nothing wrong....it is the most consistent bike I have ridden. Now what I see as problems...trying to back this bike up on a downhill grade....never going to happen...tooooo heavy so you get smart at parking. Full tank of petro and hear....ST is top heavy and you can feel it but you get used to it. 29 ;iter gas tank is great...can go 450 km before fill up...but who does that. Overall bike is a great bike that is the best kept secret...shssss!

Old 50!! , I had my Pan 1300 till I was 72. Magic piece of kit. Almost gives you every thing you want.The only other bike I had that was comparable was the Yam FJR1300. Keep it going. "Because I can" that's it keep going.

Damn that ST13 looks amazing in white, white was only available in police spec here in Canada as well. I love my '03 but I'm starting to see difficulties arising, like I don't think I can get a Road 6 front tire anymore as far as I know as well as some other Honda parts. The bike got stuck in the shop after somebody backed into it and I picked up a '13 FJR to ride in the interim, great bike same class/tier with the sweet inline-4 and real cruise control. I just posted the ST for sale tonight in fact, I might have to go edit the price after watching this.

Pans are beast. Add a gonex 80L drybag and a Avon 3 nightfall tent and you are sorted. Just about to install a rear camera on the back so I can glance at a screen above dash. I have a KZfaq video of all the mods on mine and there are alot. Also available on the file section on the fb group

I have had both the ST1100 and the ST1300. The only downside I found was their when trying to move them in and out of the garage. Once on the move, the weight disappeared. Very balanced at slow speed. Huge presence on the road. 100mph easily achievable (on track. Honest!) Arthritis in my hands forced me to give up biking for good. Broke my heart to have to sell my pan.

I had an ST1300 I bought new in 2006. MY only complaints were the weight, a bit heavy for a small man like me but I could deal with that. Real problem was engine heat in summer. Living in the southern US our summers are long, hot and humid. Engine heat was unbearable on hot summer days and I won't ride without proper gear so I sold the bike after a year; otherwise, it was a lovely bike and wonderful on cold winter days.

Great review. Yes agree with the ST1100, which I ride to work every day throughout the year. I do about 40 miles per day. The only problem can be in the poor road conditions in rural Cornwall where I live. I have dropped it more than I would like and, need to get new mirrors and indicators. Fine on major roads, which I tried to stay on. My st1100 has been mine for about 7 years, and has about 80,000 miles. I am looking at another bike for the poor roads, possibly the three wheeler. E.g Yamaha Niken and the st1100.

Now, as a used one, do you suggest it? Perhaps a new video about it...? Anyway, congrats for this presentation

100% agree with what you said. But the cake thing is really what you need to watch out for (you cracked me up there!!). Honda literally canabalised a few markets of their own in one. Goldwing - canibalised. CBR bikes - canibalised. Cruisers - canibalised. I had a Kaw Vulcan 1500 before and it was night and day going to the ST1300. Still have my 04 and have been thinking of selling. Problem is where do I go next ? I have a very capable sports bike (0-60mph in 3.2s FFS - it’s a damn quick bike!!) and a long distance cruiser if I want it. Best of almost every world. Yes it’s boring but it’s a tool bike that does everything well. I can’t justify selling. Might get another smaller sports just for fun and show-off days but those epic long journey’s belong to the ST!

I own a 2005 Pan. Now done 126,000ks (80,000 miles). Only had to replace fork seals due to a little pitting of the stantions. But that can happen on a lot of bikes. It's an excellent machine,; and four friends have bought the Pan. I believe the reason production was stopped, was because the engine didn't meat Euro 5 regs, and more riders were turning to adventure bikes, so sales were diminishing.

Shut the front door .. love it! Have had the electric windshield on both my bikes (Victory Vision & Honda Goldwing) after the ST and neither worked as well as my 2007 ST

If Honda made a shaft drive sport tourer like the R1250RS, I’d pounce on it. Basically, if they took this exact bike and made it somewhat modern looking with cruise, it would sell. I know people keep saying sport touring is dead but I think it’s because nobody makes sport tourers.

What you say is *almost* correct. Because the tankslapper police-killer ST1300 was corrected in 2003, and late 03 bikes and newer don't have that problem. So it was definitly updated.

72k on my 1st ST1100, test rode on 13 and bought another 1100 which I put another 20k on, before the weight on a gravel drive made me swap for an RT. You are spot on, Honda made the perfect touring bike in the PAN EURO ST1100, not so much the 1300.

I've had my ST1300 for 8 years. Never had any issues. Does it all: great weather protection, quiet, fast, handles well, large tank (29L) good mileage. So range in Canada is great. Only negative, hot when stuck in traffic. I'm in my late 60's, To make it absolutely perfect Honda could add the following: cruise control, a 6th gear, some addition electronics.

Very interesting viewpoint. Totally agree with your observations. I’ve had both the 1100 and the 1300 and then went over to BMW RTs when I wrote the 1300 pan off. ( not my fault) . Since then it was RTs either 1200 or 1250 and they are just the same as the Pans. They are not perfect but they are so very good at everything. But then again I am an old fart (63). It’s interesting how much the new Goldwing looks like the 1300 Pan.I reckon if they still made the Pan the Goldwing sales would fall . And yes the I think the 1100 was better than the 1300 too

I'm late to this video but, I'm in the same age group as yourself. I currently own a ZZR1400, I love it! However, I've recently been looking at the ST1300 Pan. My ZZR friends think I've lost the plot, but I've nothing to prove. I think the newest model I've seen is a 2016 bike and that's the one I'd like.

I'm looking to do a euro tour next year. I'm torn between the pan 13 and Varadero. The only thing putting me off is the Pan weave, as I'm going to be continuously riding on motorways. Is the weave really that bad when it's fully loaded and no pillion?

I too am a Pan owner and agree with your view that Honda have created the perfect bike and like your clip on both pannies ... had a few GPZ900R`s then an Aprilia 650 could`nt live with that and ended up buying the best bike, Pan 1100. like your bike clip though and your honest no bollocks review. not so keen on the guitar stuff, but everyone to their own. Thanks for sharing, Johnny. I stole my brother-in-law's 2008 ST1300 because he just parked it for a couple years, and I badgered the hell out of him: "Ride it or sell it! Don't just let it sit there!" I paid him $4K (I said I stole it, and I did) with 6300 original miles on it, 4 years ago, bone stock. Pretty sure I'll keep it, like you said, but I'm getting a 1250 GS/A soon, because I moved from sportbikes to dualsports 20 years ago. Speaking of old farts, I've 16 years on you so I don't know what I am... a fossil maybe? Anyway, the 1300 doesn't do so great on the trails. Well, no, I haven't "actually" tried it, but I'm assuming. Was an MSF RiderCoach for 12 years, and my goal has always been, and always will be, to be the best rider I can possibly be. The 1300 makes it easy, while heavy, it's very maneuverable with tight circles, tight u-turns, etc. but you have to build confidence and stop worrying about dropping it. Practice slow speed drills and turns, and it's an amazing bike despite its heft. I've not heard of general fork seal issues but the windscreen motors last longer if you don't raise and lower the screen at speed, as there's lots of air pressure then. But an electrically adjustable windscreen is a luxury I've come to love. What you did NOT mention, and it's a biggie, is the Secondary Master Cylinder. The 1300 does not take kindly sitting for years in a garage, unridden and neglected, as the piston will get gummed up with old brake fluid that has absorbed moisture. The Linked Brake System must be regularly bled - and there is a proper sequence which MUST be followed - and is not your routine-every-bike's brake bleed. This is the same LBS used by Honda on their VFRs and Blackbirds. The Blackbird is one bike I'll eventually buy again; the stock ergos were spot-on perfect for me. Add Givi's and a WingRack 2, and there's your warp-speed sport tourer, ...or just a comfy, capable tourer. My bike is not hot, never has been, and I live in the Deep South USA where our humidity has texture and personality. But we don't have snow and ice, so we don't throw those caustic, metal-eating chemicals on the roadways. (Basically 9 months of summer and three months of poor water skiing.) Never had any death-wobble at any speed, even with a topbox, in my rare visits to 100-plus mph. I'll eventually add a MC Cruise for electronic cruise control, and that's about the last thing I'll add to it. What do you think about the Pan weave? I keep hearing conflicting opinions about it: some say it happens regardless of tire pressure and top case, and others say it doesn't.

totally spot on about hondas mistake. I,ve got an 11 and would not change it for anything although i have not ridden the 13. Before the pan i had a couple of ex plod beemers, compared to the honda they are top heavy and gutless

i have the 750s, i love the bike, its bullet proof which most are if looked after, i would love a pan, the only thing putting me off is the fuel consumption, after getting 70 to 90 mpg its hard to come down from that, but as far as bikes go, well, i followed one on an advanced group ride out, i couldn't believe the smoothness of it, it was a pleasure to follow.

So how fast is the ZZR1400? And how many brake horsepower?
