I think Oppenheimer was so successful because it was the right subject and the right director. Everyone (at least everyone born before the end of the Cold War) has a fear of/fascination with atomic weapons. And you knew Nolan wasn’t going to f*** it up.

That whole discussion about intermissions: I was recently interviewed by the Wall Street Journal (under my real name) for an article about the fact that I had to get up twice during "Oppenheimer" and "Killers of the Flower Moon." (Yes, it was actually published.)

13:19 the two timelines are called FISSION and FUSION in the script if I’m not mistaken. The color timeline is purely Oppenheimer’s subjective experience. The b/w timeline widens the aperture slightly but still sticks close to Oppenheimer’s life.

I know why the sparks were so important for Nolan. The traditional Rutherford model of the atom that we are taught in school is actually a simplified version. When you take quantum mechanics into account, the electrons sort of pop in and out of existence around the nucleus. That makes it nearly impossible to visualise the atom, and you can see why that would be a problem for a film director. That's why it was so important for him to figure out how he would depict the atom (the spinning rings were the atom and the sparks was the chain reaction).

it had a pretty cool and fitting ending, but I personally do feel like it spun its wheels a bit on getting there. plus Majors' portrayal of Victor Timely was way over the top and off putting (and them trying to comment on this very detail in the finale doesn't excuse it)
@XenFayed
@XenFayed 6 ай бұрын
@@kevinw712 Oh I agree. The middle two episodes dragged for me and even though the ending kinda brought more focus to the rest of the season (in hindsight), they could have made the story tighter to begin with. But it sounds like Spencer and Lon really hated it like it's She-Hulk or Secret Invasion bad, which no....not even close. (In my opinion.)

I love your show and usually I listen to you guys while I drive to work, but can Lorn(sp) use a more consistent volume when he speaks please? He has a very large range and sometimes his voice gets so loud that it hurts my ears and then other times he's down to a very quiet gentle voice so trying to hear what he has to say is a bit tough. Maybe a headset where the mic is a constant distance away may help? Sorry I know this sounds like a stupid comment/complaint but for the last 5/6 years I've been watching the show this is the one that's constantly been bugging me whether I listen in the car or on headphones. Thanks and keep up the good work.

4:02 I think somebody was thinking about the box office when it came to that scene. A movie doesn't make close to a billion dollars after showing horrific images like that. Spike Lee would not give a f*** if it made the audience uncomfortable or not.

I think Barbenheimer helped each other. I didnt like the Barbie trailer. Didnt look funny at all, and Tenet was boring and a mess at the ssme time. I saw Barbie and the audience enjoyed it and went the next day to Oppie and the theater was packed. I think they helped each other become hits.
