@Pedro Rodriguez I have to agree, I spent a LOT of time comparing every detail of the NEST to ecobee, and ecobee is the clear choice for anyone that is even a little capable of configuring it to their liking. If zero ability with electronics what so ever, then go with the nest. Apparently the T9 has no analytics yet, so I wouldn't even waste my time looking at it until it did.

I just switched from an older Honeywell TCC smart thermostat to the T9 and I am super impressed. I really like the tighter temperature control and I love the circulation setting for the fan. I have temperature sensors throughout the house and once I added the T9 with room sensors I can see that heat is more even throughout the rooms which is much more comfortable. We have a fireplace in the basement, that room would get pretty warm, now the T9 will turn the fan on and circulate some of that heat (bonus for me!). I am also using a mix of room prioritization and geo fencing. I was a bit put out by the inability to use a schedule and geofencing at the same time but to be honest within a few days I quickly realized that I don't need it with the T9. I like the aesthetic look on the wall, and the app is easy to use and works well. Note, the T9 is now compatible with HomeKit. I am personally using our T9 integrated with Home Assistant; it was a bit confusing to get set up but as powerful as home assistant is, it can be confusing. Once I got them linked, it works great.

A sensor is included ONLY if you buy the "T9 with sensor" box and NOT if you buy the "T9" by itself. And more news for you: The T9 became compatible with HomeKit in early November 2021. Even more news: Honeywell says that the T9 will be compatible with Matter in 2021, and since Apple will too, that's another way to make it work with HomeKit. I just bought my T9 today and if you don't hear back from me tomorrow, that means I got it working with HomeKit.

I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority here, but I have a Sensi by Emerson (non-touch screen). Its very basic but does support IFTTT, ST, and Alexa. My only issue with it has been the wifi connection drops sometimes, but an update last year seem to fix that. With the Sensi you can set the temp off-set by as much as 5 degrees (i think). So you can have it start AC 1-5 degrees above set temp and turn off 1-5 degrees below set temp. This is true for heat and AC.

T9 all the way. I like my "deadband" (temperature range) very tight. 1 degree or even 1/2 degree depending on the system. I have my remote sensors just sitting on a table in the room I want to prioritize. This way I can move it from the family room to the guest room when we have visitors. Otherwise, the guest room gets most hot or cold depending on what mode the system is in when the sensor is outside the guest room.

I've had a Nest v3.0 controlling our one-stage gas furnace for about four years. We have grown tired of the wide temperature swing, which exacerbates the natural undesirable characteristics of a one-stage furnace or heat-pump which turns on and off. We're going to a two-stage furnace and definitely will be replacing the Nest with the Honeywell T9.

Hmmm. Thanks. I just had our upstairs AC replaced, and requested the HVAC man to install a T9 which he did. The sensor, we put in our master bedroom. As we go into the doorway, I put it up on the wall there. (I drilled a hole and used a wood screw instead of the 3M tape as I did not trust that tape on a painted wall) About 3 feet from the wall is the bed. Well, it is supposed to detect activity in the room and sense if the room is occupied. I don't buy into that, because in the morning, I find that the sensor thinks no one is in the room so it changes priority to the hallway main thermostat. Maybe we need to be jumping up and down in bed all night to make the sensor realize we are in the room! Hahahahah! This T9 thermostat uses the Honeywell Home app, whereas the earlier one like the model 9000 we have downstairs, use an app called TCC. Short for Total Comfort Care or something like that. I was told by Customer Service that they have delegated all this electronic management to a company called Resideo and they will combine the two apps soon. But this is the first time we've used an "Auto" setting which is great in spring and fall here in North Carolina. Two days ago, it was 60 degrees outside at night and 78 degrees in the day. So we chose only two times, day and night. Day we use 70 for heat and 77 for cool; at night, 66 for heat and 76 for cool. Works great, and we don't even bother to fiddle with the thermostat. But I do need to fiddle with the room sensor settings and give priority to the master bedroom. Only trouble is, daytime there is so much glass in that room that the sun streaming in heats up that room so much, it quickly jumps to cool mode so the rest of the upstairs gets unnecessarily cool.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The T9 cannot use a remote sensor alone to control the temperature in one room per the schedule. Yes, you can set the T9 to prioritize a remote sensor until the next change in your schedule happens. You can even see this in the video shown here when it shows "Hold Until Next Event" at 2:51. If you need a room to be scheduled you would be better off installing a full thermostat in that room.

I prefer the T9 to my 2020 google nest thermostat with the mirror finish. For some reason, I want a thermostat to default to highlighting the current room temperature. My nest shows you the set temp in bold font and the current room temp in much smaller font. No option to change. Nest’s much more expensive version gives the option of showing you the current temp briefly in their “farsight” feature (nice animation), but not on mine even though mine also has a proximity sensor that turns the screen on. Also, my screen is too dim to read in a darkened room and there’s no way to control this feature. At least with the Honeywell T5 (and I assume the T9) you could adjust the brightness, and the screen was always on so you could easily read the room temp even if you weren’t close to it. Finally, I like a touch screen over that touch strip on the 2020 nest. But with Eversource rebates, my nest only cost $1, while the T9 cost $69.

It's so you can prioritize a particular room, if you want the master bedroom set to 72 when you sleep, and you have a sensor in that room, it will go until that temp is reached in that room, no matter what the temp is in the rest of the house. Not as handy for a big family perhaps, but for someone who lives alone or a smaller family, a nice feature.

Watch the video review based on your pre-set it either averages the temp of all rooms with sensors or uses the sensor in the warm room to keep the a/c cooling or heating until that room gets to the desired temp. Bottom line you would place the remote sensors in rooms that tend to be too hot or cold
@jimgilmore7336

How do you regulate each room when everything is on a central system? What we really need is power vents in every room that way if one room gets to hot it can close down vents that don't need cooling or heating and allow the heat/air go to the room that's needs it.

One of the ways to do this is “zoning” which is basically a set of dampers that open and close inside your duct system. It is expensive to retrofit but it will take care of balancing out your heat load. The newest systems that should be considered, especially for a new build, are from Mitsubishi. They are a multi unit air handlers all connected to one central condenser(s). These can truly keep rooms, or zones, completely independent. Sorry, I am just not understanding the "Alexa, make the Living room 5 degrees warmer." feature of a smart thermostat. Am I missing something? I understand that having a sensor in each room tells the system the temp of those rooms, but how can the system control each room individually? All it can do is turn on/off the HVAC system which feeds the entire house together. There is no way to route heat/air to each room separately. So how does having sensors in each room matter when you can just say "turn the heat up 5 degrees."?

say you watch movies in a rec room in the basement. your gonna be there for 2 3 hours. you tell the system to prioritize room temp for the rec room. what happens elsewhere in the house … it doesn’t care because no vents are controlled. so yes if you heat up the basement for movie watching other parts of the house will heat up possibly moreso - so having the extra sensors may help in a big house and would clearly be an advantage where you don’t care what happens elsewhere when setting a room priority. the T9 averages the two to try and minimize the variance and reduce the effect i just mentioned.

I have a Lennox HVAC system. It's a 4-wire proprietary system, so you cannot change out the thermostat with anything else. There is a way to rewire the compressor unit to accept a standard thermostat, but you lose all the program ability features to be able to change the RPM of the motors the airflow, low-level diagnostic, etc.

So i have a Trane Furnace that is the same i believe which basically has a multi speed fan and variable/multiple burn levels. and so it stays on longer and keeps the temperature very steady and gets a very steady circulation of air around the house and makes every corner of the house have the same temp. So the question is.... is there a compatible thermostat that i can connect to smart things or Google home for my Furnace?

I have spoken to nest! So disappointed. I’m in Scotland and the lowest temperature is the highest amongst competitors. Nest have the lowest temperatures at 9 degrees. Often in Scotland it will fall below 9 degrees whilst your sleeping. Nest keeps coming on which means your heating is on whilst your sleeping. Thousands have asked nest to lower this but they don’t care, we are just the customers. So if your someone who likes to have the heating going on and off and you live in a cold climate. This is not the one to choose.

Since Ecobee is not an option in Europe this looks promising. I use a SmartThings hub for my smart home, so integrations seems ok. That geofencing thing bothers me, though. If it is really "always" hotter upstairs, then the best thing you can do is play around with the duct dampers to the upstairs rooms. So you are saying there is no way to customize the amount of swing on either the Nest or the T9? If so, that's quite an oversight on their part. Ecobee let's you customize the precise about of swing you want by half degree increments. While nest is right that less frequent activations puts less wear on your system, thats a large swing, and T9 keeping temp precisely is nice but bad for wear and the electric bills. Ecobee let's you choose a happy compromise of your choice. Even my old $70 2005 thermostat let me set the amount of swing and I wouldnt even consider one without it.

The remote sensors are not going to turn you home into a multi-zone HVAC setup. But they are useful for balancing your ductwork system. If you have three degrees difference or more on a consistent basis, between living room and bedroom, for example, you should use that to balance your ductwork using the airflow gates on ducts to each room. The sensors are handy if you want to "prioritize" a given space while it's occupied. (e.g. bump the heat or the cooling to your home theatre room when people are there watching)
