I recorded this video in March 2019 when I was invited at Mr. Sakamoto’s home in Toyohashi were we discussed topics like Mikawa nagura, Japanese natural stones, honing methods and the history of Ichikukai Asociation founded by his father, Kosuke Iwasaki and Nagayuki Asano in 1961.
Here, Mr. Morio Sakamoto, at the time 79 years old and still working in his home in Toyohashi, show us the method he used to hone the Japanese Kamisori.
He is working on a large benchstone Nakayama Asagi owned and used previously by his father for sharpening razors and scissors in his workshop.
The nagura seen here is a Tokkyu (striped) Mejiro.
