The Honu Byron is a classic high-performance all-around SUP, whose 4.7” thickness and impressive level of rigidity give it a ‘hardboard’ like feeling on the water. In the weeks leading up to this review, we tested Honu Byron consistently across multiple paddler sizes and skill sets, and were impressed by it each time.
At 10’6 x 32” x 4.7”, it was no surprise to us that the Byron is exceptionally maneuverable, and comfortably stable for solo and smaller paddlers. Where it did surprise us though, was in its capacity for speed and above average tracking capabilities (within the all-around category). Being just 19.8 lbs, the Byron gets up to pace fairly quickly and without an exorbitant amount of effort, while its well-designed shape and single fin set-up enable it to hold its path steady, so long as the paddler keeps good form.
Though minimalistic in nature, we also came to love the functionality of the Byron’s features and Honu’s attention to detail. Equipped with a front cargo area (on which Honu swapped metal D-rings for nylon loops), a raised kick pad, paddle holder, croco-diamond grooved deck pad, and 3 carry handles, the Honu Byron is prepared for a day on the water without being cluttered and weighed down.
Last of all, the Byron is shipped with a fairly standard list of accessories, and while it does not come with an included paddle, Honu leaves the choice up to you by offering a variety of high quality paddles for a discount if bundled with your board.
