Thank you for a very informative and interesting video and well presented. I am 68 years old now and I left school in 1970 and got a job with British Rail as a Junior railman or lad Porter and worked in various departments thru British Rail, then into the private sector. I like your Hornby collection and I find thee rail very interesting. The very first 00 track my dad got me when I was a young lad was the two rail with the gray plastic base. It was all second hand but i was very happy, I felt like i had won the pools. Happy days indeed. Thank you once again for a great channel and I shall be watching again. Keep safe sir. 👍🚂

I'm with you . Most of my H Dublo comes off Ebay ending soonest . I have 2 original engines owned by me since brand new thanks to Mum and Dad , an 062 tank and an F8 running good as new plus over 50 other engines some triang , many converted to 3 rail mainly by me but most original 3 rail , all serviced and running . Loads of coaches , wagons etc , and a 4 track double decker layout , three 3rail , one two rail , that's to accommodate a boxed intercity 125 a friend gave me . I have added an 2 rail F9 a 060 tank and a couple of others . Keeps me off the streets and my wife knows where I am .

I think you've described exactly what's great about model railways! I'll bet Hornby Dublo 3 rail will be even more valued as time goes on... I look forward to seeing your railway running.

Great to discover your channel as I decided a couple of years ago to go the Hornby three rail route. I get great satisfaction from getting these old models cleaned up and running on the small Dublo layout I’m building. I have some modern oo stuff which is beautifully detailed and runs extremely well - but is getting too pricey for me. There is just a charming side to the Dublo 3 rail though it is crude by modern standards. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing how you progress.

In the world of make believe I can ignore a bit of age showing on coaches and wagons when watching them go round and you get quite a few bargins too✌️😁

I've been collecting 3 rail stuff for about a year now and buy something new each pay day off ebay. I now have a fully functional 4 loco set with A3 control. Was surprised to only pay £5 for the control boxed.

Great video and although not my scale I think that these older models do have a certain charm that more modern stuff is lacking sometimes. Great too that you're able to convert models yourself, you have a bigger choice and it saves you some money too. Happy modelling 😄

I’m in the process of doing the same thing as you. I certainly couldn’t afford modern 2-rail at the prices of today. I’ve a large collection of 2-rail stuff I accumulated in the 70’s to 90’s which lived on a large layout in my cellar. It all had to be taken to bits when I moved house in 2013 and is now patiently waiting for my retirement in 3 years time. In the meantime I’ve decided to do a 3-rail layout, like you I live the simplicity, durability and weight of these models and have started buying things on eBay. No toy fairs for me sadly as I live in France. Since (🤬🤬🤬) Brexit I get all my stuff delivered to my cousins in the UK because otherwise I get stung with 20% VAT and 10% import duty on top of that !! Add in ridiculously steep postage charges (frequently more than the item price) and you end up paying over double the UK price. I’ve quite a few items to collect from the UK this summer. Anyway I’ll be keeping up with your channel. All the best Rob

Great collection of Hornby Doublo products. I am into model trains. I love these vintage Hornby Doublo products. I have tracks and buildings with me. Looking out for 3 rail steam locomotives. I am from Chennai India..

Yeah, I also prefer buying the neglected stuff and fixing the pieces up myself. I get a real kick out of it. I still have flutter with a decent model if the price is right. Great video and great tips.

Years ago, I bought some pre-loved track for a slot car set. Some good but a lot terrible. When I was a kid I had Hornby, so I've been looking for the grandson. The basic set comes at $ 200.

Lovely what you are doing. I had a triang train as HD was expensive. All very crude by today's standards but the nostalgia of it all and of course would survive an atomic blast which models today won't I remember the trainset boxes, a picture of dad with a tie and the small boy with a short back and sides. This was real trainset stuff, no scenery but everything that HD or triang made. The stuff of dreams for a small boy inthe late 50s

No wonder I can't find a bargains on ebay, I think you got in first😀. I'm 74 living in Israel, and have had the set, since I was 10, (adding over the years). It wasn't new when my parents bought it for me. I find ebay is expensive on postage, so lately, having got back my interest, I'm looking for sellers, so I can buy multiple items, and thereby save on postage. I return occasionally (I'm originally from Leeds) and try to coordinate my trip with swapmeets. Keep up the good work.

If I wanted to convert a two rail to a three , is there a kit you can buy or do you have to salvage parts from old engines . Regards Paul.
@mindfulmodelmaker560211 ай бұрын
Hi Paul, I use the parts from old 3 rail, if they don't fit then I will have a look at what modlers are using as pickups for lighting in coaches and adapt them
@user-ly1jh2qv8s11 ай бұрын
OK thanks for getting back , I have a load of two rail triang engines and was looking to put down a permanent layout . The three rail system seems a lot more robust . I will have to keep an eye out for scrap engine's . For what you can pick up the three rail engine's up for they make a cheaper alternative to buying new , and seem to have a lot more character . Regards Paul
