I was surprised to hear the lecturer say that traditional hairsprings can’t be repaired. I’ve seen several twisted and bent metal hairsprings repaired by a skilled watchmaker to perfection.

@Jeff Kingston this was a very interesting and informative lecture, many thanks. I'd be interested to know how do the recently introduced Nivachron balance springs compare to the silicon ones. I wonder what might have been Swatch group's motivation here, were silicone springs perhaps "too good" for their entry level brands?
