Dry wit, some possibly shocking revelations about the tactics of major auction houses, and fabulously informative on the nuances of condition, originality and how to buy.

Very informative and entertaining thank you! It sadly confirms my suspicion, the vintage market has outgreeded and outfrauded me from interest. There is simply too much shenanigans and too little authority and authenticity in this market.

The problem with the authentication centre is that there is no generally binding reference for condition. When for example someone lists a watch as "mint" condition, that does not really mean anything on Ebay, as the authentication centre says that if it's listed as a used watch, there will be scratches, and that's the end of that. Passing authentication really mostly means that the watch is authentic and its functions work.
