@drephi2k11 This was the all star group, not the regular squad. Majority of the folks that we added were folks that are playing other instruments in the band or seniors about to graduate that didn't march that year with a hand full of recent grads. Funny thing about it, about 5 of the top guys didn't even play. LOL. In the past we have had to put some players on other instruments to balance out the sound of the band.

You can tell that these fellas practice together a lot. For starters there is no one in the center keeping time for them or cuing dynamics.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!! Great acoustics, intonations, bigger (the group that is) and the music is beautiful. They are setting the bar very high! Can Alabama State, Albany State, FAMU (no offense FAMU) tubas battle this perfection! They are absolute to their name HORSEPOWER! What an evolved group of individuals! I think I could have been a great addition to the band though.

@Eusi1984 I was in the section from 1990-94 then was on staff working with them up until 2010. I still sponsor some of their trips and recruit for them.

@CTMTuba The band was down a few times when they would come to Atlanta for Honda and would play but we have changed up our practice area over the last year or so going to another high school. I don't think we are going to Tucker this year again either. Sorry.

Some guys from my school said that Horsepower used to come down to Tucker High School in Atlanta GA to perform for them but i didn't see ya in like a year are ya ever going to come back? cause i want to hear a true college tuba section in person

hey gentleman a couple years ago the horsepower section did mad a vid titled " vsu sousaphones - horsepower 9.17. 2010" and in that vid around the the 1:27 point..u played a song and people said u got it from the iphone commercial. ive tried my hardest to find the actual commercial so i can learn to play it too (ima tuba player in highschool and im thinkin of joining vsu) but can u just give me the name of the song u played, or the commercial

@slagathor2013 playing tuba isn't all about playing loud. there's more to it like control, tone quality, dynamics, articulation. if you can play loud and sound good doing it more power to you. but when you play too loud and your band director tells you you're too loud, it means that you're upsetting the balance between the sections. play loud in the stands. oh and if you are serious about going to VSU find Parris Bowles on fb. He's their tuba advisor.
