Officially labeled by the Tonto Recreation Alliance as Forest Road 1827, but nicknamed the Hoss Trail due to a memorial plaque at trail end for a gentleman known as "Hoss". On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate it a solid 4 due to the general roughness of the trail. There is one major (optional) obstacle I would rate a 5, but a bypass route will take you around it if you choose to do so. This trail WILL NOT be kind to the paint on your vehicle, so if you would rather not have "Arizona pinstriping" I would avoid it.
This trail is located approximately 1 mile east of Tortilla Flat Saloon on Apache Trail (Arizona Highway 88). Shortly after a dip in the road where you cross a small creek (usually dry), you will see the trail head on the left.
