Aemmas deathbed scene is still so hard to watch. I feel the confusion and betrayal and her screams. And the desperation is writ right on Vaiserys face. That's kind of the moment I knew what kind of king he was. He didn't wear a crown. It wore him. And it took the best from him and his family. It's amazing seeing these magical dracomorphs portrayed be so human and fragile.

Halfway through the rewatch, and your analysis of Otto’s abuse of Alicent put a point on a criticism of Viserys that’s been percolating (and very much ~not~ an exculpatation of Daemon)-there’s an implied neglect in Rhaenyra’s pre-heir years that, while nowhere on the level of his later parenting of her half-siblings and mitigated by Aemma, almost certainly contributes to her vulnerability to Daemon’s grooming (alongside some of their overlapping traits/experiences). He might not be around as often, but when he is, he’s certainly engaging her. Anyway, great stream as usual! Looking forward to the rest!

Something I think people overlook is that literally the only thing that makes the misery of pregnancy and the danger and agony of childbirth worth it is to have a baby in the end. I can not imagine the torment Aemma went through laboring to birth so many miscarriages and babies who didn't make it.

P.P.S. The point you both make about what Aemma’s decision would’ve likely been (save the kid) absolutely makes it worse in many ways. Not to mention the lack of proper anesthetic/dosage-a lot of places in the Middle Ages had more than one type of rudimentary painkiller figured out, they could’ve tried another after letting Aemma make that call. She didn’t have to die screaming in agony. Also, no wonder Rhaenyra had a chip or three on her shoulder after that-talk about knowing how potentially expendable you are not just to society but to your remaining parent on some level. For all his guilt after, Viserys made that decision and there’s no way she ever forgot it, even if she understood how he came to it.

Concerning the separation of power within the great houses of the Freehold, wouldn't it make more sence to have a split between Dragonlords and Bloodmages instead of each house having 1 very specific ability? Because if only house Targaryen, or even like 4 or 5 houses out of the 40 were breeding war dragons how did they have enough to boil the Rhoyne? And that would also explain how House Targaryen at least partialy maintained the Dragon side but nothing of the Blood mage side.

Like, we never read about Visenya being burned with Dark Sister. That also stood out, right? Those swords DID used to be ONE. And it was divided, just like I think you guys were saying. but why does Aegon burn with his...part? And why did I always connect these two swords to what Tywins does to Ice...yet couldn't get why really. Tywin gives the bigger half of Ice to who he WANTED as his heir. The littler part is given to King Joff. To me, it has ALWAYS read like Aegon married Visenya because he had to-SHE was firstborn. She was the heir, birth order wise. What are the odds that if Aegon was firstborn, there would be only one House Targaryen Sword? Still? If there were really 3 legit Targaryen Conquerers, there would be 3 swords-or one for Aegon only. I am struggling again for words, sorry-ok. There SHOULD be 3 Targ Swords...but really only MAIN one. There are 2. WHY does dark Sister get...equality? Is that the word? I'm saying-shouldn't only Aegon's sword MATTER for shit no matter HOW many valerian swords either of his sisters have if HE is the ACTUAL legit Targ ruler? See, the way it ALL reads together to me, Visenya WAS the actual ruler, but for some reason-Aegon is put in front. I think the idea that Aemma probably would have chosen to sacrifice herself is an initial reaction for many of us, but I actually think it’s counterproductive. Maybe she wouldn’t have wanted the pain of them literally cutting her open. The point is that we have no idea what she would have wanted. I almost feel like by assuming, we’re continuing to strip her of her agency. But I do agree that the idea that she probably would have chosen the same thing of her own volition is poignant and heartbreaking. I don’t know I’m kind of torn

If Longclaw is a lost Targ sword it would be Dark Sister . . . if Bloodraven didn't bring it to the cave, but stashed it somewhere in the L.C's tower that wasn't revealed until it burned. I guess GRRM has weighed in on this at some point but I still believe in maybe, LOL

Can't wait for the big round-robin sword swap meet . . . Jon will end up with Dawn, and he will give Arya Longclaw which is really Dark Sister bc that's clearly her destiny. and Dany will take Blackfire from Faegon, and a reforged Ice will go back to House Stark somehow.

To Maynard Plum’s point about Viserys and Daemon’s poisoned relationship, in another world, Daemon’s line about grief could’ve held more weight-Aemma’s his cousin as well as his sister-in-law, they were probably raised together to some degree and it’s not impossible they were friends in their own right. But there’s no unity in grief between them-neither of them even seem to think of it. It’s all devolved into what we see on screen.

Otto is seen with alot of suspicion by the fans, but I don't think that every of his actions comes from a bad place. I honestly think that he's scared of Daemon, and he genuinely cares for his daughter. Viserys shunning of Rhaenyra in favor of his unborn child, Viserys shunning of Aemma in favor of this unborn child and Viserys shunning Daemon in favor of yes men and leeches ( altough Daemon carries his own set of problems) are what truly started dividing the family imo

Seeing all the Tiktoks aimed at women my age, with birthing advice, I saw that sometimes they push the baby out by squeezing the belly, which is barbaric but I wonder how people didn't figure it out back in cave days, since it makes most blatant sense when something is stuck. Yeah you get all sorts of tears but the baby comes out. Look at me feeling sorry for the fate of a fictional character 😁
