"Reluctance to murder is not weakness" as Alicent says to Otto last episode. Rhaenys wants peace and thinks a path to it is still possible if Alicent gets out from under the thumb of the men around her. They will not fight in men's wars anymore. She has no idea things will escalate like they do. I liked the decision! Good tension.

Oh man, seeing Luke and Aemond in the same place pretty much confirms that the bad stuff is about to begin... I really don't want Luke to die 🙄 poor Rhaena too. I am curious however as to if and how they'll begin the new season with Blood and Cheese. Until now, they seem quite determined to portray the Blacks as the (mostly) good guys. Even Daemon has been suspiciously chill. But if they show Daemon giving that order, they can't take it back. It's much more cruel than killing his wife. I wonder if they'll show Larys be the real culprit or some kind of switcheroo. Looking forward to the Winterfell scenes, not just for the Starks but also because we need to see more of Jace!

People are undermining Rhaenys show of mercy because there’s most likely casualties from her dragon bursting into the pit, but Rhaenys was kept prisoner and definitely wasn’t leaving without Meleys. If she stayed who knows what the greens would’ve done to her, they had the option of letting her leave with no casualties. Rhaenyra was going to find out sooner or later, but I know they were never letting her go. That’s just wishful thinking and more reason why Rhaenys showing them mercy is her being the bigger person. Edit: I have never seen a map or blueprint of the dragon pit I jus assumed the only entrance/exit was the one we see on the front, granted if there is another exit then I agree she should’ve chosen that one

I always love these breakdowns. Thank you. Also.. I can't help but feel bad for Luke and Arrax. It didn't really bother me much after reading about it in the books but booooy did it hit me hard when I saw on screen how tiny Arrax is compared to Vhagar. Poor thing didn't stand a chance especially in that storm.

07:05 the power, that has not been seen since the days of Old Valyria team Rhaenyra's dragons. At this point the blacks' dragons outnumber the greens' and kinda outmatch them in dragon power, despite one of the greens' being Vhagar.

Yeah that scene when she burst out with the dragon was epic it was my favourite scene in all the episodes so far.

I mean I love the twist of her coming through the floor it shows us how important of a character she is! Rhaenys could have obviously Ended it but that would mean no dance of the dragons! It also shows us her Character is loyal and stand by her beliefs. As well as showing us she is merciful! Great scene!

It was obvious that Rhaenys was not going to kill them bc we know what happens in the end and also if she had, there wouldn't be more seasons BUT she could have burned some bums or hands or legs...😂 It was probably my fav scene next to Matt's rogue walk to the Crabfeeder.

Daemon is trying to see if they can claim the masterless dragons, among them Vermithor. He'll fail and almost get killed, which is the catalyst for finding the Dragonseeds, I believe. I really don't think it's more complicated than that.

She saw herself in Alicent and probably had flashbacks to “Laenor’s” death. That’s the only reason why I could think she’d refuse to burn them in that moment.

Thanks for breakdown. I’m excited about watching the finale for the action and treachery but it saddens because it means it’s the last new episode for many months

What makes it crazier is that Rhaenyra seems to just want to let it go and be far away from all of this with her family but all the people around her pushed to fight for her birthright. What did it cost both sides? EVERYTHING. And she is never wrong with that, she had the strongest claim even if she’s a female heir. Even her children with Daemon are the strongest contenders, both born PURE targaryen. Their match as the only heir of the king and the only brother of the king tells it all.

I like how in the show at any given moment someone can be as brutal as hell but for some reason when the plot is necessary they aren't

0:55 I really don't like this explanation from the showrunners about Rhaenys sparing them just to spare Alicent "BeCaUsE ShE's A MoThEr" I think it's a current vision and not a GOT/HOTD character's vision. I prefer to think that she considers that there might still be a way to prevent the total war and/or doesn't want to strike the first blow without consulting the team black before (she's not the heir afterall)

If Aemond has the BIGGEST dragon, then it would make sense for Daemond to go and get the most vicious. They need a more even playing field because otherwise Vhagar will kill them all with very little effort on her part.

Although I do love the badass Rhaenys, I don't think her not killing everyone on that podium was in character. All she has left is her granddaughters & she knows at least Baela is likely to be in danger with the coming fighting. I wish they'd at least have put Aegon & Haelaena's twins and baby up there (unless they are & I just missed them) because it feels more realistic that she'd hesitate to kill little kids. Or maybe when she appeared they should have had Aemond realize what was happening & scamper off. They could show Rhaenys start to give the order to kill (or at least leave it ambiguously possible that's what she plans to do) when we hear a earth shaking roar (the implication being that Aemond had gotten to Vaghar), so Rhaenys takes off without killing everyone to avoid having to fight Vaghar & possibly leaving Rhaenyra still in the dark if she were to lose. As for the "your cause has a power not seen since yada yada" line, given that the focus is on the kids, I think the reference is related to just how many dragonriders she has (or has the potential to have) on her side. Daemond, Rhaenyra, Rhaenys, Jac, Luc, and Baela (plus Rhaena & Rhaenyra's younger sons likely to claim their own in the coming years, or so they thought), I believe that is more than any royal has had at their direct command since the Doom.

I Didn't read the book and I regret seeing this breakdown because it will take the shock element out of next episode

I really hate the explanation that Rhaenys didn't burn the greens because she was a mother identifying with another mother. I think that was the most minor of motivations if it influenced her decision at all. I don't know why men think that motherhood or being a mother automatically is at the forefront of every woman's decision-making when there is so much else at play. I think Rhaenys genuinely just does not feel passionate about Alicent OR Rhaenyra. As in, she doesn't despise or love either of them. I can't imagine her murdering an entire family on Rhaenyra's behalf. That would take a significant amount of personal investment and devotion to Rhaenyra to do, and Rhaenys just does not care for her that much even if she is allied with her in general. I also think that Rhaenys decided to not burn them, still knowing she caused casualties, as a power move. She is showing them that she has all the power and holds all the cards in that moment, and that she could end them, but does not, sort of as a warning like Mysaria made to Otto. "Remember I could have killed but I did not." Even if we know that the Dance of Dragons goes onto be the bloodiest civil war in their history, the characters do not know this at the time. Right now, it's a very intense game of chicken. It's not Rhaenys' call to make. It's Rhaenyra's. She knew her time came and went and she seems to have the mindset of "this is not my place or job anymore. It could have been but it's not and I'm going to let the people who have the responsibility call the shots. But damned if I just lie down and let myself be carried this way or that. I will stick to my convictions."

The power that hasn't been seen since Old Valyria is probably the amount of dragons the Blacks collectively control. They have five dragonriders - Rhaenyra on Syrax, Daemon on Caraxes, Rhaenys on Meleys, Jace on Vermax and Luke on Arrax. In comparison, the Greens have only three (four, if you count Daeron), and Aegon the Conqueror had three as well. It's not hard to assume that no faction ever fought a war with more than five dragons on their side since the Fall of Valyria.

I think the fire is to show Vermithor’s size because look how tiny Daemon is when it is shown

I thought Helaena said beware the beasts (plural) beneath the boards. Maybe Meleys was just one of many.

It's make sense in war perspective that Rhaenys didn't kill the greens at that point, because it would just giving a reason for the other to unite and rally against her in full force. That's why history is full of story of "near misses". It intentionally missed, to avoid higher ramification.

One question, she went down the dragon put and comes out with a dope outfit do they just have the uniforms laying near the dragons?

It’s strange that Daemon or the Valeryons didn’t claim Vaghar after his wife’s death.....

"One mother looking at another mother... and doesn't have it in her". Very cool scene, but sometimes these showrunners says some eye-rolling stuff. How many mothers were killed when Rhaenys had her dragon burst through the floor in a room full of people? Not to mention the amount of death that's about to be unleashed in the upcoming civil war.

The scene that shows Lucernys riding through a heavy rainstorm on his dragon may very well be that part of the book where he is murdered by Aemond after they accidentally cross paths while looking for support from the Baratheons at Storm's End. He will be the first of Rhanery's sons to be killed by the enemy. Rhaenys was that close to getting rid of Rhenerya's problem and saving a lot of lives. It's a shame that she didn't. But then, it's not really her dispute.

I hope Meleys being the "beast beneath the boards" is just a Red Herring and that the real beasts are Blood and Cheese! It'll be brutal and people will go totally ape at this Sophie's choice.

All I will say is that it gives me great pleasure to know that Alicent will lose all her descendants. That is all. Team Black. 🖤

I think Rhaenys also spares Alicent and Aegon because she is honorable, and she is no kingslayer. We all love Jamie, and by 21st century morals he was 100% right in murdering Aerys, but "kingslayer" is the most offensive and dishonorable name that can be given to you in westeros. I don't think Rhaenys even considered burning everyone to a crisp also because of that. And also that part isn't in the book so there's that.

I thought Sermons said that line about marriage because of his bond with his sister. The looks they give each other are always loaded, and he respected her more than his brother.

I was blown away by the details of the coronation. It felt like watching Nicholas II being crowned in an Orthodox ceremony with all the hollow pomp & circumstance of a rotting system. It's what I'd always envisioned from a GoT coronation. Tom Glynn-Carney was terrific in bringing out Aegon's emotions of conflict, hesitation, pride & euphoria all at once. I'm glad they kept much despised Criston putting the Conqueror's crown on Aegon II's head. The Kingmaker is born! What the show's doing really well is the details, down to locking up servants. Usually the passionate debates, the sense of treachery & heartbreak are glossed over. We only see the regime change as a "fait accompli". This bring to life the mechanism that historically goes behind a coup, which I assume is as emotionally taxing for the people seizing power. That's why I like agonized & conflicted Alicent more than her steadfast source counterpart. It's more flesh & blood. She vacillates but her messianic fear for her children fates her to make a cursed gamble. *Jokes aside, I only support my Green Lives Matter King for the extermination of Strong Boys cause I'm pro Valeryian blood supremacy.*

To be fair, the prophecy just states that _a_ Targaryen must sit the Iron Throne in order to save the realm/world, not that Rhaenyra has to. _She_ doesn't need to be the one on the throne if it's the prophecy we're speaking about, though she'd indisputably be a better monarch than Aegon II.

I’m going to be dreading what happens, because all the children excluding Aegon and Aemond deserve better.

I hope they save blood and cheese for season 2 episode 1 because if they end with blood and cheese next episode it will be going too fast. I'm sure next episode is when Luc and Aemon have their showdown but I just hope it doesn't go so fast as to show blood and cheese in the same episode.

The finale, aka the "Rhaenyra also ran participation trophy at dragonstone" episode to send the viewers home happy. Ala the Robb Stark in the Season 1 finale treatment lol. Can't wait for Season 2. AeGOAT's reign is gonna be glorious. But sucks it's not gonna be out till like 2024. The coronation was amazing, finally a budget permitted real coronation at the dragonpit befitting a king.

Dude! It’s not that Rhaenys didn’t have it in her to torch the Greens. It’s that she is better than that. So what, thousands will die which she could have put a stop to then & there. That would not have been the honorable thing. When they go low, Rhaenys goes high. She made her point. She has the high ground & she is a Baddass!

I think Jon snow the prince that was promised finds a time machine north of the wall in a cave only he’s journeyed in to. Then he travels back in time to battle Aegon the conquerer so that the king of the north doesn’t have to bend the knee thus wiping out his own existence in the future so that now we have to write a whole new story. Mind bending. Another one is the mother of dragons is pregnant with Jon snows child and the baby survives as the prince that was promised. And this baby grows up and finds a time machine. Man I should collab with R R Tolkien.

It likely ends with Luke getting killed by Aemond, and maybe Blood and Cheese.

So is Daemon going to ride vermathor also, can they bond with more than 1 dragon at a time?
