House of the Dragon HBO's new hit prequel series to Game of Thrones, just revealed its opening title sequence. However unlike Game of Thrones, it is not quite clear on what exactly we are looking at for House of The Dragon.
Don't worry I got you covered, as I breakdown and explain what is happening in the title sequence for House of the Dragon.

Dunno if I missed it or not but did you mention how the people who have died their circle fills with blood whereas the blood goes around the people who are currently alive in the story?

@@Betrayed_King mhmm ye could be that, I can see how it would all very confusing for casuals, maybe we’ll see what it really is when SPOILER Lucerys dies at Storms end because he the first character in the story that dies without an heir. So we’ll see if his fills with blood or not because it think it’ll change over time like GoT’s.

@@cameronkumarhatyara3417 Nah, seems it fills with blood when they die. Just broke down one of the Wall cog trails of blood, and it starts with a flooded cog (Lady Hightower - Otto's deceased spouse), then unites with his own cog marked by a Hand of the King pin, which then unites with the Alicent cog marked by the House Hightower sigil. So flooded with blood = dead, for sure.

Wonder if people have realized that Dorne is still not a part of the Seven Kingdoms yet...there are only 6 in this time period. P.S. Those houses you see in that carving are the major ones that will take part in the Dance of the Dragons, the Greens on the left and the Blacks on the right.

I believe at this point there were actually 7.5. The North, the Vale, the Riverlands, the Westerlands, the Iron Isles, the Reach, the Stormlands, and (sort of kind of) the Crownlands. Dorne was actually the eighth kingdom, but they'd called themselves the Seven Kingdoms for a couple of centuries by that point.

@@davidjay7116 The Riverlands were never really their own kingdom, at least not at the time of Aegon's Conquest, they were part of Harren the Black's Kingdom of the Isles and the Rivers. The Crownlands were never an actual kingdom either, just Aegon's landing hub and surrounding areas that he laid claim over and then built up. There are 7 Kingdoms (Dorne being one of them) but 9 constituent regions (those 7 Kingdoms plus the Riverlands and the Crownlands).

@@Marc_Araujo House Tully (and others) rose in rebellion against Harren in favor of Aegon I. After the fall of Harrenhal, Aegon I raised House Tully to a Lord Paramont, restoring it to the kingdom it once was, just time time for Tully to bend the knee of course. Much later, (and after a failed attempt to conquer Dorne), the Lord of Hightower surrendered and the High Septon proclaimed Aegon Protector of the "Seven Kingdoms." Six regions that he and his sisters had conquered, plus another he liberated and took control of (Riverlands), but not counting the early conquests he would retain control of directly (the Crownlands, which is why I only counted them half). I think the "joke" Martin is making is that the Septon would've found a way to count seven kingdoms no matter what. If Aegon had taken Dorne and the Stepstones and Bravos, there'd be some mental gymnastics to get that count more "holy."

Thank you for this breakdown. Wish they had made the various icons larger and clearer as aside from the flowing blood I hadn't a clue what I was watching. I do hope some graphic artist creates something different for season 2. Something like 'origins' on WOT showing Aegon conquering Westeros with his dragons.

I wish it was more noticeable. I didn't realize what it was referring to until I watched videos. I love the idea, but it goes by each sigil so fast and some are like you said all blooded out. Some are just hard to see. I guess like Game of Thrones we learned through the years what they meant. I was shocked and have mixed feelings on the theme song. The more I think about it, I like it. Because like they have said, it is Game of Thrones.

Jaehaerys and Alysanne had 13 not 16, but 4 died as kids, so there are only 9.

Awesome breakdown! This is such a cool concept for the title sequence, I just wish it was more “obvious” (for lack of a better word! Another interesting detail is that Prince Baelon and Princess Alyssa’s gears never “activate”, because neither of them ever ascended to the throne (since they died before their father did). Such a cool detail!

You mentioned the circles filling when they have kids in the stream tonight, but I think it fills when they die. The house sigils from l-->r are: baratheon, Hightower, blackwood, Dustin, peake, lannister, Velaryon, Maybe Stark, ?, ?.

Should be the wives of the kings that wern't Targaryen. Like Visery I's wife was an Arryn.

@@Marc_Araujo Bad example, as Aemma Arryn is half Targaryen herself. The sigils in the 2nd mural do not represent wives of kings who are not themselves Targaryens. I did play with a few ideas for the sigils myself. One being it represented the coming Dance. One side green loyalists, one side black loyalists, but that doesn't pan out. Next I thought about the regency of A3 & his council of regents, but that doesn't pan out either.

I think the opening is depicted in two parts. Part I specifically follows only the line of succession from inception to the start of the series (Part I), not every Targ child, marriage, etc. Because we know Aemma's mum & Rhaenys' pop was a Targ babe of Jaehaerys & that is not represented in the intro by cog unions although Aemma remains in the line of succession, & Rhaenys' is represented elsewhere with a cog. Part II takes us into the present day of the series, picking back up with Viserys I & his union with the Queen Aemma. However, the rules seem to change for this second part, as there are blood trails (on the walls) that represent present day characters, but who are not definitively part of the line of succession, or of the blood of the Dragon. I'd love to share it with you in sh!tty graphics xD

Ive read it from a site that 3:57 , right at the top background, there is a bloodline and believe it or not it's Sir OTTO and his wife . The bloodline above at 3:57 is a continuation to 5:02 where the bottom sigil is ALICENT . Someone zoomed the sigil and it's Hightower Sigil . If you ask me why house hightower specially Otto is part of the bloodline? I dont know
