Showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, director Clare Kilner, Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon Targaryen) and more unpack the moment when Alicent finally sees her father for who he is, Aemond’s underlying resentment for Aegon, and Rhaenys' escape from King's Landing.

Tom's acting during the coronation scene was out of this world. From the vacant look in his eyes, angry and on the verge of tears as he's walking up to his mother, and then his expression completely changing when he realizes "Oh shit, these people are actually rooting for me". He said so much without saying a single word.

The glance of Otto beaming when the crowd is cheering. You could see to him he felt it was his moment as much as, if not more than Aegon’s. He’s achieved his blood being on the iron throne. He even looks somewhat relieved as the crowd goes wild for Aegon. Great acting!

That was so weird, it honestly was a bad thing to add to the show because it's very clear in the beginning that the relationship is platonic with the intention of helping each other to get what they want, and then you have him have a foot fetish and her obliging to it like wtf? I find that Rhaenys actions were despicable. She breaks in at the coronation, injuring perhaps hundreds of people and then does nothing, when she knows that by doing nothing she has doomed the realm to a long bloody war, not only causing the death of thousands of people but also the likely destruction of he own house. It makes no sense to that world, a true Targaryan would have burned them all, problem solved... but then this would have been the last episode, and there is no series in that. She's a Targaryen, not an idiot. If she burned them all, there would just be even more chaos, she knows that. The crowd was clearly enthusiastic for Aegon, if she just killed so many of them and then killed the adored new king, she would make herself and her allies (including Daemon and Rhaenyra) hated. Hard to rule if you're hated. I think this scene was basically her way of saying to the Hightower branch "Good luck stopping me" and showing that they are weak (which is much more effective than just killing them all in terms of getting public support). Also, of course, to get out and start the war. Rhaenys, it's been shown, doesn't seem like the most ethical of people, more than anything she wants the power that was denied her. So I doubt she cares about the deaths of thousands in a long war, so long as she has the new queen's ear and thus the power she craves.

the problem i have with rheany's moral high ground is she just literally killed hundreds of innocent civilians but couldn't bring herself to kill a treasonous family to help prevent countless deaths? seems like a classic trope of a good character kiling their way to the big bad only to show mercy and let them go. this show usually has amazing writing but that really rubbed me the wrong way. first misstep imo. still an amazing episode overall tho. i was at the edge of my seat the whole time.

The Targaryens / Velaryons / Hightowers don't care about the common people. That's just obvious at this point. Their morality is reserved for each other, the family that Viserys begged them to keep together.

Hopefully this level of writing remains to a minimum cuz if they continue making dumb decisions like this we will get a repeat of seasons 7 & 8 of GoT! Cuz they choose spectacle over story cohesion!

I think you’re all missing the point, there isn’t any good people in this story - they’re all scum bags basically. They don’t see the small-folk as equal to themselves either. Rhaenys probably didn’t kill the Greens because of the taint of kin slaying. The small folk who died in the process were probably, in her mind, the equivalent of stepping on a spiders nest and killing 100 spiders to save yourself.

I need to give credit to Condal, Sapochnik and Martin. They are building up characters in a seemingly slow-burn pace, letting their presence breath, and just when you least expect it, reveal their essence. This episode truly felt so much like a thriller, yet not exploding into anything, until the coronation scene. Kilner did an incredible job in crafting this thrilling atmosphere and introducing the episode with silence in the castle, an indication of war incoming with the death of Viserys, just like 'silence before the storm', and by the end of the episode, reaffirms that the Dance isn't far away. P S.: Have been waiting for Rhaenys' dragon moment for so long! I knew this woman has badassery tucked under her cloak. Damn, what a moment!! I am just so happy!!!! 😭

This was the worst scene in the entire show and they never should have put it in. It's just mindless spectacle for the people who want mindless spectacle. They made Rhaenys kill hundreds of innocent smallfolk to get to her enemies, which makes her evil. Then they have her spare her enemies and miss out on a chance to end the war before it starts, which makes her stupid. I loved Rhaenys character. She was relatively wise and good. This scene made her stupid and evil. And the showrunners don't even seem to realize it. I despise this scene.

The ending of the episode was nonsensical. Apparently they did it just to give Rhaenys a "character moment" but it was the most illogical and evil thing anyone has done all season. Landing on top of a crowd of innocent people (which she was just in, so she knew about it) and then actively choosing to have a war when she could have ended it then and there.
