The turtles originated in the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico. Between 1989 and 1997 farmers and pet traders in the U.S. illegally exported millions of red-eared sliders to different countries around the world, including India. The exotic and invasive turtle compete with native biodiversity for food and other resources. Considered as one of the world's 100 worst invasive species, the red-eared slider has become a threat to India's 29 native species of freshwater turtles and tortoises.

A national-level facility to collect the red-eared slider turtles from any part of the country has been set up by the Kerala Forest Research Institute's Nodal Centre for Biological Invasions (NCBI) Contact number is 0487-26902212

Oh, we love them. They are almost everywhere in Central Park in Manhattan, they are New Yorker turtles. We have many many, just search on Twitter for Central Park turtles. Sorry that you don't like them.

They are invasive species which can change the dynamics of the ecosystem which they are not originally part of

I forgot to mention that they survive in ice and iced water for months during the winter, they hibernate in frozen water and I wonder how they are able to keep enough oxygen in their bodies and shells.

Actually I also have a pet red eared slider but realeasing them into the wild can be fatal to native species so think abt it we Don't hate em it's just that they are invasive

It's not about we like this turtle or not these are invasive species which can destroy ecosystem. Also nyc people are also welcome to enter in India
