Hi, Dominic here! I am going to teach you how and when to bet and raise in a game of poker. Winning a game of Poker is not only about mastering the rules - but it is also about betting strategy. The more equipped you are with knowing how to place your bets and when is the best time to do so, the higher your odds are of winning. In this video, I'm going to teach you how to bet smart and win money in a game of poker.
This video is for beginners in poker who do not yet fully understand the terms betting and raising. These are the most basic and some of the most confusing terms in a game of poker. In this video, I will dissect these terms and review the differences between the two, as well as explain how to use them as part of your basic betting strategy.
When betting in a game of Texas Hold'em there are five actions you can take. These actions include:
fold
bet
check
call
raise
I will explain each of these actions along with how to use them.
During the game, betting can only occur post-flop, on the flop, turn or river. You only have the option to bet when you’re first to act post-flop, or when the opponent checks. Once someone has already bet, you have the option of folding, calling or raising.
It is important to always state your bet. If you fail to do so, you will not be able to change the number of chips you place in the pot.
Remember, in poker, the first action is the binding action.
Why bet? There are many reasons to bet in the game of poker! You bet to protect your hand, to convey that your hand is stronger than your opponents, and to bluff!
When you are feeling confident, you can raise the bet. This can be done after a player has already placed their bet.
Betting is a huge component of the game of poker, therefore understanding the art of betting is very important! Pay attention and soak in as much information as you can so you can start earning loads of money from the exciting game of poker.

Actually if you verbally say Call first then mistakely put too many chips out it is still a call, not a raise. The dealer will give you the extra chips you put in back. Never have i been to a poker room where this is not the case. Only if you push the chips out without saying anything would it be a raise.

I hate folding and then getting that card in the river that would of gave you the winning hand. Folded probably 7-10 winning hands the last two days. Im a tight player but you definitely need some good luck to help you out.

You don’t need a tutorial you need common sense. Most people don’t have common sense, poker isn’t for most people..

@@joddog even if your argument is "common sense isnt common," there's really nothing to me that is _common sense_ about things like ranges or strategies like c-betting. You have to not only research a betting range, looking at graphs, win percentages etc, but also understand what it means and how to effectively apply it.
