Some people come into money and conveniently forget that they owe others money. My sister in law owed us over a grand and when she got a blessing she started flexing on social media and when she got called out on it she claimed she spent it all. We were never given a dime. Shameful when situations like these have to come to litigation but it’s the only way some people will learn 😢

She is being irresponsible. She lived for free and she did not like his tone. Entitled. Good for him for not allowing himself to be taken advantage of. Daughter disrespected her own mothers memory by being selfish. He was obviously a good enough man for her mom for ~20 yeras. This daughter inherets part of $50k and does not want to give this good man a dime. He is grieving too. She has her whole life to live- he is likely retired and every dime counts. @@luv4ever101 I picked up on that too- her money but if he was really that bad, why did she stick around him all that time? There are usually 3 sides to every story- his, the mothers and the daughters. They all seem like mostly decent people but these two both seem cheap. Daughter was trying to freeload- sorry. She is not his daughter- he does not owe her anything technically. No- he is not a generous type but that is not a crime which is why the judge had to technically side with him- even if she did not like him. He is not very likeable but she also needs to grow up and pay her own way in life. Over the years I am sure he paid for a lot of her stuff. In 15 years he only wants costs for a funeral that she promised at the time to pay for...and she is sitting on $50k. I am more on his side- sorry. You probably relate more to her. Do you have people pay for you- is that what love means to you? Learn to pay your own way- over time, he will get tired of it, trust me. It never ends well. You need to develop your own skills and earn a living as a strong, independant woman...or not. It's your life but I am older and know how things go.

I love these types of cases. I always take them as an educational practice for myself and others. Let's really take a second to think things through. I saw a lot of comments about the girls being selfish or that the plaintiff (fiancee) was in the wrong to sue the girls. What we need to focus on is that the deceased and the plaintiff were together for 15 years engaged for 3 years. BUT NOT MARRIED! This was the biggest issue. The plaintiff probably already took financial hits due to his partner being on dialysis and unable to work. Yes there is an estate but it was never clarified to the young girls what it should be used for. They think it should be used to start their life. I actually can see how they think that since in movies and TV shows that's how it is viewed, however the debt that the deceased does incur the estate should pay for. This is why conversations, paperwork etc need to be in place at all times. The girls should have been aware prior too what happens if anything were to happen to her mom. You really never know when it's your time. We can say it's a moral right but he may have kids of his own and bills for them. If we play house, these types of things will happen. I don't care if you have $1000k in the bank. A simple conversation with your kids and proper paperwork will help your loved ones deal with expenses and drama that may incur.

Whether she agreed to pay or not doesn’t make a difference . The deceased funeral expenses comes out of that estate - and it is not right for anyone to steal from it an use it for themselves . Even if a person is in desperate circumstances.

Imagine how hard it was for him to have to sue the daughters of his fiancé. Surely, he cared about not only their mother but also them, considering he let the younger daughter live with him for free. If he put these expenses on his credit card and let it accumulate interest, it’s because he obviously couldn’t afford to pay out of pocket any more than the daughters could. Deplorable?! What?! I think the fact that the judge called him deplorable because he was trying to get his money back is a little triggering for me. if the man is not rich and he needs the money to make ends meet, what is so deplorable about that? It's her own mother's funeral, and she believes she should pay absolutely nothing towards it? but be able to pocket all the money that was left behind? Is it me, or is the judge showing bias in this case?

19 is just the legal age. It doesn't mean you have life skills or mentally mature. Some things you don't learn until you go through it. I agree that the girls should have paid at least half of the funeral for their Mom. But the man was in a relationship with the mother for 15 plus years and engaged for several years. So basically that was his wife whether on paper, or ceremony.🤔

Every time I have paid for a funeral for a family menber, it took years to get them to pay back their portion of the cost. I usually get critizism the funeral was "too cheap", not enough flowers, I did not rent a limo for the family. None of the dead persons friends showed up because "the funeral was out of their way". I was told to NOT handle the funeral arrangement by several family menbers who did not like the way I did it. When those people died, I had to arrange for the funeral and pay for their burial. They died broke.

He didn't even need to bring to court his expenses for what he did prior to the mother's passing. There is something wrong with the plantif he is too articulate about the death and not showing any any sadness . Surely the mother told her daughters she had insurance. Something is wrong about this entire case.so if he got$3,500 then how much was the total. Tĥe insurance could have made a check separate to the plantif. This is sad. Once the mother passed the daughters should have gone to live with the grandmother. He got money from the sale of the house. I wonder if the sister got any money. This happens to many families.

After many, many attempts to talk to contact him with no response, I sued him in small claims court and won but he claimed he didn't have money to compensate me but I see his daughter driving a brand new Toyota Corolla. Huh? Never trust contractors. Even signed contracts and losing their bond does not work in your favor as the client. Crooked contractors are the worst.
