It’s not just the shine but more importantly is the vitality put back into the colours. My favourite was the Krylon Gloss until you brought in the Winsor Newton Professional. They are close but WN is just a bit better in gloss and more vivid colour. I’ll be getting WN. Thankyou so much for all your effort that has benefitted me so much.

Just the information I was looking for. I was using a clear sealer I had to paint on and it just wasn't working right. Beautiful work. That one that looks blue and red on the bottom right is awesome!! I also really love the black/red/orange one. Love how the black kind of snaked through the color.

Thank you sooo much for this comparison!!! I’m just getting around to my first time dealing with a spray. I’ve done a few with a can of Polycrylic and that’s not a fun job at all!!! Have tons of coasters I’m about to resin ..and I’m making a spot in the garage to begin spraying my paintings and a few vases. Grabbed a can of W & N professional Gloss Spray & figured I’d jump on KZfaq and see what I bought. How cool is it that we can do that?!!! Anyhoo, found your channel so now I’m going to binge watch ya while I finish off a bunch of art. Thank you sooo much for sharing!!! Happy Painting.. (and prepping .. and finishing.. lol 😂) 🎨🎨✌️✌️✌️

Awesome video! Do you ever feel like the gloss causes it to be harder to see the painting when light hits it? It's like the light hits the clear and you can barely see through it. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Since this was 3yrs ago did you find a new favorite over the WN?

I liked the Winsor & Newton AND the Minwax. I don’t like really shiny, so I usually use the Krylon UV-Resistant Gloss | Clear Acrylic Coating. It has artists brushes on the label. Sold at Michaels (Canada) for about $16. It is also non-yellowing. Golden makes one as well, but it’s twice as much as the Winsor Newton, but hey, only HALF the price of the Minwax. Thanks for this video❣️ what is the lightfastness of the WN? Did the strong odor from the WN disappear once it was dry or do the finished paintings still have a slight smell?
@TheCharmingGiraffe
@TheCharmingGiraffe 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure on the light fastness of the sealer is that something that would be on the can or something that I would have to test out? I just started using this dealer about a month ago. I checked some of the paintings today and they still had a slight odor but you had to hold them up to your nose to smell it. I keep them stored on a shelf with parchment paper in between each painting. So they're not in an open area, that could be the cause of them still having a slight odor. 🦒
@dianetucker2711
@dianetucker2711 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your reply! The light fastness would be located on the can if covers that. If it contains light fastness protection, this is to keep the colors from fading when paintings are displayed in rooms with sunlight for extended periods of time (years probably).

Hi I'm new, what do you recommend for phone case? I've purchased phone case with art painting on the back but it's needs coated.
@TheCharmingGiraffe
@TheCharmingGiraffe 2 жыл бұрын
I would recommend resin because it's the most durable and a phone case is handled daily whereas art isn't. 🖌️🦒

Please tell my how you got all those evenly coated without the dull parts? I am using the first one shown here and Its so uneven. I moved back from the piece and still for some reason it gives me really shinny parts and parts that look like scuff marks. I'm so frustrated! I did a painting that took me literally weeks and after adding the Liquitex it got like ridges (the foam paint brush with panty hoes over it, im told that cuts down on the brush strokes but it doesn't) the more coats the deeper more obvious the brush strokes and lines, to the point where it couldn't be saved. I had to throw it away. I did learn after the fact that you can sand the finish and reapply though without knowing why i'm destroying these it makes no difference. So its not just the paint on but the spray on as well. The spray isn't streaking or running and i'm holding the can 5 to 8" away like it says, shaking the crap out of it, Like the label says. I did realize that it was too hot the first time I used it but i'm not doing it in the heat of the day and still get the same results, Consistently! Please do a video of you actually using the spray to coat your pieces. or come over and show this idiot how to finish these things. LOL

I'm so sorry you are having this experience. Here's the video on how I sealed the paintings using the krylon crystal clear acrylic coating spray. If you want to see the others that are shown in this video they are all in my playlist called sealing acrylic paintings/projects. Let me know if this is helpful. 🦒 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qctzgZWouKymmWQ.html

@@TheCharmingGiraffe Thank you so much, I will watch it/them. After 5 months of frustration, damaging my art work and spending thousands of dollars to do this I'm at my end. I told my husband today, if I can't get a solution for sealing my pieces that I can be proud of I'm done, I will pack up all that I have and chuck it! So I pray this works. I did about 6 layers of the spray on Krylon stuff and though it didn't looked scuffed it didn't look shinny either. I could see some shine in the sun light when it was tipped at an angle. I held the can at about 8" from the painting surface maybe 10". Anyway, thanks again for getting back with me. God Bless

@@TheCharmingGiraffe I watched your video's I'm doing it right. lol I figured out what the issues were, FINALLY! It seems if you repour a canvas it becomes very slick, the finishes can't stick well to it. I did a few that weren't double poured and my finishes with all the product I have used before worked perfectly. I have no idea what to do with those I re-poured since they are slick and smooth. If I sand it it will damage the paint so maybe I will have to use resin? All I can do at this point is try it. THANK YOU for your help.

Would I be able to spray on a print that I would keep rolled up in storage more often than it would be unrolled? My concern is that the finish would crack.
@TheCharmingGiraffe
@TheCharmingGiraffe 3 жыл бұрын
I've never used the sealers that way. That would be my concern to. I would say test it on similar material and roll and unroll it and see how it goes. Treat the test piece the same way you would the real pieces.

You did not try the Krylon triple thick Crystal Clear glaze. The key word here is glaze. If you want shiny and a deep coat quickly, also fast drying, small odor, you might consider this other gloss. They have a number on the bottle and it is 0500. I find that does color doesn't seem to Yellow after a while.

I just tried KRYLON Triple-Thick Crystal Clear Glaze 0500 two days ago and it definitely gave my paintings a shine, I have to tell you that the smell was more than I could handle. I'm glad I sprayed my paintings outside or I never would have been able to withstand the odor. BUT it did a great job of sealing my paintings.

Do you think the Winsor and Newton would set clear on a window to seal a design or would it leave a film/speckle effect?

I've never tried that so I just be speculating but I think it would work ok. I definitely recommend testing it on a sample piece before putting it on your final product.

I really like gloss, but it seems to make paintings look like prints rather than original. I now think matte is best to seal & preserve color of art.

That is exactly what I did here. A cool color painting, a warm colors painting and a painting with white negative space and light colors. Acrylic pour painting is abstract and no 2 paintings will be identical.
