I used to be an avid board gamer until I realized I was spending a lot of money, investing significant time learning new games, and putting effort into organizing game nights with friends. Despite all this, I often found that either I didn't enjoy the game, my friends didn't like it, or it was too difficult to play regularly. So, I shifted to collecting miniature games. Now, I still go through the same process, but at least I find joy in painting and assembling the miniatures. And I can watch them when finished and feel joy. Plus, I can play solo games most of the time (Unless precisely designed to play solo, board games require a minimum amount of people to be played).

I think the other big thing to remember is that hobby stores aren't rejecting your "GW killer"out of loyalty or anything - if a true GW killer ever does come along, whichever hobby store first carries it is going to retire on that.

As someone in the "multiple kickstarters - people asking about retail phase" I think you guys highlighting that stage as the minimum starting point these days is very salient.

You say it in jest but, I come here for the rambling. I work at a game store and I'm responsible for ordering several game and hobby products. Trying to keep up on what the next big thing is or even just keeping on top of current trends is difficult but, required part of my job. Your insights are helpful to help me keep track of what is going on out there in the hobby space, thanks!

How can a minature game work? You need a lot of SKUs, & new SKUs to get people through the door of your hobby store - otherwise all the existing players won't come in. But then you get 100s of SKUs - so the inventory cost is ridiculous, or you don't stock it all and people come in and wander off because stuff is always out of stock. These miniature games companies need to keep it to a 4 foot shelf with enough stuff to start 2-3 new armies/teams, or upgrade any existing army (of the many already out there) with something interesting. Still trying to work out why Malifaux isn't working in this context.
