How Do I Know I Am Meditating Correctly - 5 Tips To Consider . Meditation is very simple. At the beginning, we can get lost into details and doubt that what we know is correct. We question ourself whether we're doing it right or not, and how are we supposed to feel afterwards.
So how do i know if I am meditating correctly? Well you know you are meditating correctly if you enjoy it. That is the most important aspect of meditation. Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh says: if you don't do it with joy, you're not doing it correctly. Meditation can feel very serious and austere. But we practice meditation to improve our quality of living. Do you enjoy it? If you don't try to relax. Smile when you meditate, keep it simple. At the end of my meditation, i often list a few things I am grateful for and take a moment to enjoy them.
Sometimes, when we meditate, we feel all kinds of emotions, sometimes anger, sometimes sadness. This happens because when we meditate, we let all our inner chatter settle down. When this happens, some emotions or thoughts we've been avoiding came come up. And it is a good thing, because it gives us the opportunity to become aware of them and have a chance to transform our suffering so we can live with more peace and freedom.
I hope you will enjoy this video full of tips on how to meditate properly for beginners.

ive been meditating for 4 days now and i still dont know whats the main goal of meditation.. I mean some say you meditate in order to be in "the present moment'' so I did focus on my breathing, it was effective i feel present in the moment but when i focus on my breathing i lose my relaxation becuase i keep on telling my brain to ''breath in breath out'' therefor i cant relax fully. On the other hand if i dont focus on my breathing I become very relaxed (which what i think is the point of meditation) but if i do this i become absent in the moment, its just like im sleeping while awake.

A few times when meditating, I got an overwhelming feeling of bliss. It doesn't happen every time, the strongest sensation was when I first did meditation. Perhaps it was strong in the beginning because my mind was not used to such peace before? I have been meditating for about a month and I do it twice a day for about 20-40 minutes each time.

I am the worst critic to myself. Anger fills my head every time I meditate. I don't gwt what I'm doing wrong
@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing 2 жыл бұрын
You're doing nothing wrong. Anger is just your experience. Sometimes when I meditate, I recognize anger too if I was upset by something. So what I do is just recognize that anger is here and breathe to calm the anger. I pay attention to my thoughts too because we tend to ruminate on them and their perpetuate the feeling of anger or anxiety, whatever the emotion we feel. So I practice accepting my thoughts as just thoughts, they are just blips in my mind. We have the habit to believe all the thoughts that pass through our mind but in meditation, we practice recognizing the thoughts just as thoughts and not cling on to them and believe them which we usually do, especially if they thoughts are fear based. So my recommendation is to first focus on your breathing, take deep breaths to relax your mind and body first. When self judgement or anger is present, simple acknowledge those thoughts or emotions just as fleeting experiences, you don't have to identify with them. You can just see them pass by like you are sitting on a bench in a train station and watching the trains pass by without getting into them. Does that help? It takes practice, but that is the gist of it.

Hi Sir, thank you for simplifying things because my meditations are like a bumpy ride. Sometimes my mind is clear but then I feel surge waves moving up my entire body which causes a slight jerk. Then sometimes I start seeing mathematical equations in a loopy tunnel that I may be moving through very fast. I know this sounds crazy but I’m not!! 😩 Every time I try I feel tingles at the top of my head with pressure and I typically see flashing white lights or white shadows (eyes are always shut) if that makes sense. Lots of physical sensations ( ie chills, ears popping like when ur on a plane, itchy crawly skin, high pitch low sound) that i typically lose focus and open my eyes. Other times I think about a million things and can’t focus period. Or I instantly feel the pull to get up and lay down and nap ( I sit at an altar on the floor). If I meditate on the couch I choke EVERY single time! Not sure why I’m not able to do it right or what’s happening to me when I do meditate, but sometimes my experiences deter me from doing it because I don’t know if this is normal and if I’m doing it right. I’ve tried laying in the bed, but i literally felt like I was spinning clockwise (very scary). So I don’t try that way anymore. Never feel relaxed honestly but I am curious about the sensations! Would love to know what you think About them and what I should change!!! Thank you ✨
@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Janine, thank you for your question. About the sensations in your body, i think it is great that you are aware of them. Meditation is not necessarily about feeling peaceful. Yes, peacefulness can come and we can enjoy it. But Meditation is more about becoming aware of what is happening inside us. It is about observing our experience without getting pulled by it. So when you notice sensations in your body, just become aware of them, observe them. Usually, we use the breath as an anchor to rest our mind on, but when something else becomes predominant in our experience, let go of the breath and become mindful of that experience. It can be a physical sensation, a thought, a feeling or emotion. Stay with it, breathe with it or into it and when it passes, come back to your breathing. What is happening for your if that your have those experiences and then judgements arise from your experience, so try to let go of your judgements and simply notice your experience. About the couch, I usually don't meditate on a couch because I cannot breathe easily. So I use a meditation bench where I can sit upright. I made a video on sitting position that I think will be helpful. Let me know if this makes sense and feel free to continue asking me questions. Have a great day!

Often we store our stress and anxiety in our belly. When we meditate, we start relaxing and then, the gas we produce in our belly can come out in the form of farts or blurbs. It’s fine, we just continue to practice. Maybe it’s a good sign we start relaxing.

@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing Жыл бұрын
Hi Tara, maybe noise canceling headphones are the way to go at times to create a silent environment for you. Give it a try and see how u like it. Otherwise, you could bring your full attention to the noise around you and instead of the breath being the object of your meditation, the noise becomes the support for your attention. What will be interesting is to notice how your mind reacts to the noise, dislike/hate … after a while maybe the noise will stop to be bothersome

I have been trying to mediate for the past few months. I have only done guided meditations. I dont think I’m doing any correctly. Some of the guided meditations have been difficult because i am being told to visualise things etc, and i find that really difficult to do. I also cannot stop my mind from wondering, OR i fall asleep 🤦🏼‍♀️ I have no idea what the correct way is... what is the point of guided meditation if you’re meant to only focus on breathing?
@PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, I have made a video on practicing with guided meditation vs non guided here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aNqIdL2Iks7edIE.html. As you start, keep it simple, simply focus on your breathing. it's totally true you don't need to listen to a guided meditation for that. Sometimes, guided meditation are useful bc they offer prompts that brings us back to the meditation if our mind drifted for example, or the guided meditation may make us explore different experiences. But yeah, you can simply focus on your breathing and later on, when you feel you want to move to another object of meditation, you can move on to the body. Check out my few last videos and my guided meditation here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g6qYkrio3butn4k.html. I also practice simple gratitude meditation towards the end of each meditation (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iLSJjcSm2rmWYn0.html). Hope this helps, let me know!

@PeacefulBreathing 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Nelly, congratulations on starting meditation. In my opinion, meditation is one of the best tools I know to care for oneself. So sorry to hear you've been stressed lately. I don't know your circumstances but we sure live in testing times. About your experience, seems to me that meditation is doing what it is supposed to do ... meaning it helps us to reconnect with ourselves, it brings us back to what is happening within us and around us. And a lot of time, we're too busy to pay attention to how we are actually doing ... but when we quiet our mind, when we give space to our inner experience, we realize we've not been taking care of ourselves as well as we hoped. And it is the greatest gift of meditation, to reconnect with our suffering and learn to care for ourselves. And when we can see our suffering, we can see the suffering in others and we become motivated to help others. That's is compassion. What you just did is touch the compassion within you, to be with a part of you that was suffering. It's a great start I would say. Stay in touch, I will be posting something this weekend.

Hello Maryam, first about your legs. Do you sit cross legged on the floor? How do you sit for meditation? I made a video (see on my channel) where I give some tips to sit properly. Regarding the eyebrows, I am not too sure of the cause. Try to relax your forehead maybe. Sometimes, we tend to focus very hard and that can create tension in our body, so try to relax. @PeacefulBreathing
@PeacefulBreathing 3 жыл бұрын
Hello dear friend, thank you for your question. Could you tell me a little more about your practice? How often, how long? For everyone, it is a little different. Meditation is not an exact science. When I first started, I did it for a month and noticed little change as well. So I stopped. Then I continued to feel anxious so I started again because it helped just a tiny bit. And after a while, I stopped again as I didn't see any big changes. I stopped and started again many times until I realized that even if I still feel anxiety as of today, I know it is much less than if I would not meditate. There are different foundations of mindfulness meditation. First we start with the breath as you know. Then we can meditate on the sensations of the body and relax the body. Our stress and anxiety manifest in the body and we can learn to notice these sensations and relax intentionally our body. It is also useful to learn how to deal the the emotions of stress and anxiety. Often, there is nothing to do, just to observe and let the feelings pass. And finally, emotions often initiate from thoughts so it can be helpful to notice the thoughts that create anxiety and look into them. Are they true? How do you react when you believe those thoughts? Who would you be if you wouldn't believe those thoughts? Last but not least, it is very helpful to stop during the day to slow down through mindful activities. Mindfulness in daily life and sitting meditation go hand in hand. Hope this helps, don't hesitate to ask me questions.

Hi morte, well, when we meditate, all kind of experience can happen. Some people can feel grounded, other at times can feel floating or dissociated with their body like u described. What does your practice look like? A priori, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with your experience but let me know about it more. Do you feel scared about it? What are your thoughts on your experience? Finding a way to ground ourselves is important so that we don’t feel pulled away by our mind but there is all practices where we rest in the open and at times, we can feel bodily less and we rest in the vast and spacious nature of our awareness
