Another example of radians being more convenient than degrees: Given a sector of radius "r" and arc length "l", its area is simply = *1/2 * r * l.* (In the case of a full circle, l = 2*pi * r, its area = 1/2 * r * (2*pi*r) = pi * r^2.)

@@rightisntright8819 For small values of L (arc length) the sector is _approximately_ triangle-shaped with base L and altitude R (radius), and the area of such an (actual) triangle would be = 1/2 * R * L, right? Compare how you calculate the area of a sector in degrees: Full circle = pi * r^2 Sector = pi * r^2 * (angle/360) If you convert the angle from degrees to radians, you get: Sector = pi * R^2 * (radians / (2*pi)) = (pi)/(2*pi) * R^2 * radians = 1/2 * R^2 * radians And given that a radian = L / R: = 1/2 * R^2 * radians = 1/2 * R^2 * (L/R) = 1/2 * R * L
