Hello, Autumn! First of all, you should know that I never comment on KZfaq videos, so the fact that I feel the need to do so on your channel tells you something! Your channel was suggested to me as I have been browsing several homeschooling videos. I started watching, was intrigued and then that led me to your podcast, which I cannot stop listening to. I felt so seen by your description of what you went through as you started your homeschooling journey--Charlotte Mason felt so understandable and I was immediately drawn to the core philosophy, but classical was the one where I was thinking, I can't quite get a grip on what the governing philosophy is to say how I feel about it one way or another! I was finding a lot of the "whats" and not any central "whys" behind it. So finding your channel/podcast, I have to say like I am exactly the target audience you are describing! Just wanted to leave that as a note of encouragement and to say "thank you" because I am learning so much and am feeling very inspired. Thank you for the book lists and footnotes, as well. Also as a side note, my daughter is only 18 months old! But I think it's that vision of education as all of life and how it permeates everything that really has me captivated. And it all feels very relevant even though my daughter is nowhere near "school age." Anyway, just wanted to say I am loving it so much! Thanks again from another PA girl. :)

Robin, hello from a fellow-doesn't-comment-on-KZfaqs! I do appreciate the note and the encouragement. I started walking through the classical wardrobe when I was pregnant with my oldest and quickly learned this was a whole life thing. I think you nailed it: it permeates everything. It's certainly meant for the 18-month-old too. So happy to have you here!

Thank you so much for this lovely and inspiring interview, Autumn! I have a question for you about how to respond to my very curious and observant 4 1/2 year old (she's very proud of her age right now ;)) when she asks questions about the meaning of specific events that happen in the fairy tales and folk tales that we read. I usually try to ask her what she thinks, but often she reiterates that she wants to know what I think! Does that make sense? Do you have any advice? :) Thank you again!

So glad you enjoyed it! I think your putting the question back on here is great and then answer from there! You can always go the "wink" route, where you never give a full answer or explore the lovely ideas together. Heidi's warning was against moralizing: turning a book into a heavy teaching a rule moment. Hello! I am new to your channel and recently watched a few of your videos. I am not married so no question of kids. But I am really yearning for them and want to pass on my books and knowledge to them. I had a silly question- do you have any thoughts on using the kindle instead of books? I am currently running out of space to store books but you make me want to go back to them. But a kindle is really handy for someone like me who is always on the go and wants to read. Would love your take on maybe finding a balance and if you have tried reading on some device. Thanks and best wishes :)

Hey there! Great question. I don't have a Kindle but whenever I am traveling, I do ask myself, "Do I want a Kindle? To bring all my books without breaking my back?" And then I think, "No. I would miss holding the book, turning the page, smelling it all." And so I forget the Kindle. I'm a keeps-a-book-everywhere-for-any-reason-gal. Many lovely readers love to have them for certain things; I will personally never be one of them. I fear it would affect the magic of it all.

I love the feeling of a book and the turning of a page and have always preferred "real" books. I have a daughter with dyslexia - being able to enlarge the font on her kindle has made reading an easier task for her. Seeing her ability to continue enjoying reading when the text size of print novels she is interested in reading would have complicated the process for her has been slowly turning me into a fan of the Kindle. How can I not be thankful for the technology that is allowing my nine year old to independently meet a new friend in Green Gables (and regale me with tales of Anne's exploits in narration)? All that to say...I think there is a time and place for both!
