It seems that our civilization is a very laid back civilisation. We had science but we didn't venture out into engineering which requires application of science concepts. And this laidback-ness still haunts us.

Kushal & Abhijit, I really hope that you read this question and answer it either on this very platform or on twitter. Logically I agree with Abhijit on all counts. Looking at the present day architecture which sucks and is in terrible state I can only agree with him though with a heavy heart. But truth should always have a place and be acknowledged and mulled over for growth and evolution. My question is more out of curiosity and desire to connect the dots. The kind of sophistication we achieved in performing arts is phenomenal. I am no expert on arts from all over the world but i know much more of arts than a layman as i come from a designing background and a lardent lover of arts. The evolution of music and dance forms that happened in India would have required demand and performance avenues. Even our folk dances are so diverse and beautiful. So we can safely assume that our society was deeply entrenched in performing arts even post the Harrappan period. So what explains the evolution only in performing arts even without places to perform. There had to be a demand for it. Then what were the places of expressing these arts. Even in paintings and scultures you can out argue on valid facts that the west was superior but we did achieve some commendable level of prowess in them. Somebody was buying it. Can a largely agrarian country produce such sophisticated arts. If yes then please explain the theory behind it and if not then what explains the flourishing of these arts in our country. In fact i find that post independence arts has stopped to flourish. Even the rich dont patronise arts. They patronise these sub standard Bollywood stakers. Please do reply if time permits.

Abhijit Chavda said that, "Indian Kings believed in Raaj Dharma ie not use money for luxurious palaces and stuff" , most money was used in welfare of society. I believe That's the reason why they did not scale it up or did experiments in the field.

Interesting discussion. To answer why Temple had huge compound? Temples were used to store the wealth(Gold and precious stones) of that place were it was situated. It has huge space around Garba gruha to house the soldiers against bandits/theives and enemies. It is not meant for all commoners but for the devotees of that particular deity and sadhana

Good discussion all in all. And Abhijit’s questions/statements are right, atleast they make us think, are we being fed shallow theories in the name of whatever ideology or are we honestly willing to look at the issues and resolve them and keep building forward. Jahan pura surgery ki zarurat hai wahan sirf bandaid se kaam nahi na chal sakta. And, Questions ke time audio was not clear, Kushal’s audio literally gave me ear cramps and teary eyes 😜 and Abhijit’s online smoking made me get scoldings and a flying slipper from my mother after so many days. And on a different note,

I haven't seen the podcast but I have to say it. We need a (chitti) consciousness among people, firstly for themselves to act and secondly for the nation (optional, pehle wala koi sab kardo bahut hoga)

Tamil kings built water management structures on par with european countries. Kallanai was built 1900 years ago by karikala chola and its one of the oldest dams in the world. There is kalingarayan canal , veeranam lake etc all products of chola / pandiya water management.

We had culture of Mela for civic gathering on occasions. Structures made for such gatherings were probably just as temporary like Puja pandals of today.
