I have been eyeing the Kaweco AL-Sport because it seems like a durable pen that would easily survive my pocket or bag. However, I was wondering how well you think it would survive in a drop test sort of scenario. My TWSBI Eco had survived drops, but it has a lot of ugly scratches to show it. I am a student who can be very clumsy and drop things, so I would want to get a pen that would be a one-time purchase because of durability. My friend has the VERY durable Karas Kustoms Fountain K, except I think the AL-Sport looks a lot cooler, and would rather buy that.
I haven’t thrown this across the parking lot yet (though I’m tempted to!) like the Karas Custom
I think it’d hold up really well, it’s solid metal
The Eco is plastic, so of course it will scratch
The coated ones (like the black or blue) will scratch, the brass or Raw one will hold up best

Somehow the plastic inner cap of my Al Sport got dented/misshapen somehow so that everytime I take the cap off it also unscrews the grip. I can't figure out how to fix that. I have also dropped my Kaweco on the nib and it died of course.

I just got my Kaweco sport pen from you today and I can't seem to get it started to write. This is my first fountain pen and I did put the ink cartridge in correctly but I still can't get the ink to come out and write. Is this normal for it to take awhile before it starts to ink and write?

Ok I got it to work. Yeah! Can I use any standard ink cartridge for refilling or do I need to use a specific kind?

Yeah, sometimes it takes a while for the ink to get to the nib with cartridges. Brian talks about it more in this slice: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jsWUlqiUz72xp2g.html. Kaweco using the standard international cartridge, so any ink using those should work. You can also buy the Kaweco converter (www.gouletpens.com/kaweco-piston-cartridge-converter/p/KAW-20000903) as long as you don't have a metal Kaweco Sport. - Colin

is it normal that on the raw something scratches the barrel inside the cap ? So there is a line in the middle of the barrel that seems to be going more and more deeper as I use it - i know it's supposed to be scratch up, but not sure it's normal

Yeah, that's pretty normal. It might be from just pulling the pen and uncapping/capping it over time. You might be able to buff it out, but inside a cap, it shouldn't be too big of an issue. Something that comes with the territory.- Colin

Hey, The Lamy Safari piston can fit in Kaweco Classic Sport or aluminium one? I'am think the buy one. Before using the Lamy Safari with piston. Now I want to use another brand like Kaweco with affordable prices pens but not sure can fit the Lamy Piston.

The Lamy piston converter will not fit in Kaweco pens as it's proprietary to Lamy. Kaweco does have it's own converter that could work though: www.gouletpens.com/kaweco-piston-cartridge-converter/p/KAW-10001229 - Colin

The Goulet Pen Company Thank you for you're answer. I already know Kaweco have a own convertor but unfortunately it's not find my country (Turkey). Yeah so don't want to buy abroad, cause too much waiting. I think gonna refill cartridge or I don't think but maybe use a eyedropper. By the way even I have a Kaweco convertor, isn't it too small?

The Kaweco converter is smaller than other ones, but that's the only option currently. That said, both refilling a cartridge or eyedropper converting are great options, and seem to be the go-to with the Sport pens. - Colin

Jinhao pens are pretty sturdy for their price. The Lamy Al-Star also has an aluminum body that can be pretty good. But really the metal Kaweco/Karas Kustoms are the way to go if durability is your top priority. - Colin

Dropping most pens depends on the angle and level of impact though, I've dropped a 145 and 149 a few times and no damage although from not too great a height. The biggest nuisance is all the ink suddenly blasting out the nib and feed requiring many tissues to clean
