My 30 second power is "early national class" and my 1 minute power is "Cat 1/Neo-pro", but everything else is Cat 4/5.......not surprised since I don't have the burden of a superior cardiovascular system lol. Way back when I was 14 years old (46 years old now) and a bodyweight of 148 lbs and 5 feet 6 inches tall, I squatted 275 lbs for 6 reps and max deadlifted 315 lbs.....so power/strength was more my thing I guess. I really should get back to doing weights again as it would definitely improve my 20 minute power, as I suck at longer/harder efforts compared to the Cat 1/2 guys I ride with.

I had a play with your rankme spreadsheet (nice work as always). The rankings come out a lot lower for me than the intervals.icu profile, but then their rankings are based on the ranking within the population using intervals.icu and have a finer grained age category.

The 4DP and phenotype is a very interesting thing to discuss. Also Xert has a similar methodology as well, baronbiosys.com/your-fitness-signature/ Their concept is quite interesting, it consist in your Max Peak Power, your FTP, and the Energy in Kilojoule that you have availiable at every given moment during an activity. Which I think is more inline with the concept of the 3 Energy systems and the % of fiber types your muscles have. So how much power you can produce and for how long, and how long it will take until you "recovery" from the effort" to repeat it again. So yeah, would be nice to bring those muscle fiber types, and energy system discussion in a future video, because when I see 1min and 5min bouts in the 4DP test, I have my questions why 5min bout, when the science refers to energy systems as phosphagen (ATP-PC), glycolytic, and oxidative that has an estimative duration of 10s, 1-3min and 30+min.

Love the concept Alex, I plugged my figures in but nothing changed in the Fft rider type, it said I was a sprinter but had no values attached to anything. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

FastFitnessTips: Cycling Science! Thanks, popular sheet as it was still being edited at 2am this morning! I got a result back of “Road sprinter” with a score of 77.4, One question though, when using Strava power curve should we be looking at average power or normalised power over longer durations? My best 2hr power outdoor is 202w but indoors I’ve done a 2hr ride with normalised power of 30w more.

@@davidgeorge9233 Lol, its been 8 months but NP probably says alot more about the effort than the average power. If your NP has a big gap against your AP, then that says a lot cuz u dug deep in for long amounts of time in your ride.

Seems like a good idea but the spreadsheet does not work for me - in whole Row 20 I can see "#Div/0!" error. I've made a copy, perhaps this is the reason. Edit: seems there is an error - instead of IMPORTRANGE from an external spreadsheet, it should be something like =round(G19/$I$12,1). Edit 2: but then, in Row 22 it's missing references to Tab 'Look10s' from (again external) Importrange_RiderRanking_v2. And here it's all you can do because it's not possible to copy from Importrange_RiderRanking_v2 🤨

None of the calculators align with Garmin insights data. Rankme, is saying I'm a non-rider/beginner and Garmin based on my actual power data is saying I have avg power greater than 50% of riders and ride faster than 62% of users.

Hi Brendan, our data is based on power returns of actual cyclists, do you have a link verify Garmin's results? I wasn't aware Garmin had a ranking system other than their fitness/VO2 max score. If you want a second opinion syn your data with fft.tips/icu and look up power profile.

@@Fastfitnesstips Garmin "insights" is in the Garmin connect app. It rates your data against their database of actual users. In reality I am a new rider but have raised my FTP by 70 pts, I keep up on fast group rides. My Garmin Vo2 max is 49...so the quantitative and qualitative factors don't seem to add up

Man, the Sheet is constantly changing. My percentiles keep shifting. Went from 20th percentile to 90th...then to 50th...and just now I'm at 99th! Seem like if you don't like your rating, just wait a minute lol :)

yeh look also at the "descriptors" Rookie pro or Cat1 or Cat2 etc. As you know you raw power is only ONE factor determining speed and success. You also have to consider: recovery rate, position, clothing, equipment, resilience and all losses on the bike.

@@Fastfitnesstips True, my recovery rate is probably not good, since is only started training one year ago. And I am only 62 kilos, so despite good watts/kg, my total watts are not amazing. I feel like your model should have a penalty for being light, since it limits you in the flats. An 80 kilo rider with the same watts/kg power profile would probably beat me in any situation

I got 1% non-cyclist across the board. I refuse to believe that an FTP of 310 at 76 kg ranks below almost the entire world that has even been on a bike.
