If drifting is such a big mechanic for the game they need to put more curves in tracks. It's really jarring seeing everyone chain drifting on straightaways

Agreed, it's one of the things that drives me away from playing the most because it just looks so goofy. The rest of the game seems fine but so much of the layout is straights and really shallow turns where drifting consistently isn't really possible (in part because of the very strange way the game handles drifting).

Completely agree. The track designs as they are would be actually decent if driving was more like true to life physics and long range acceleration, but it really beats me why they designed the game around a drift mechanic that is poorly factored into map design, when it even is at all.

fr I mean currently I'm Diamond 1 in rocket racing and I feel you Osceola people change drifting on straightaways I do too to catch up obviously for more boost that's the main reason why I hate the easier tracks because there's so much straightaways in the easier tracks that's one reason why I like expert tracks more especially Anaconda

Everyone drifts on curves. It takes more forethought and strategy to drift on straight aways. Taking that away removes the more chess aspect of the game. If it's just curves... well now it just becomes like every other game

@@AdsForAdults Well, yeah people do it... The argument is that it's dumb and shouldn't have been designed in a way that makes *drifting* on a *straight piece of road* an effective strategy. They're rocket-powered cars, they should be extremely effective in a straight line, more so than in any other situation. Willingly turning sideways on a straight doesn't make sense. In general, doing a dumb thing to be different is usually more dumb than it is exciting.

Not sure how relevant it is for this game specifically (I don't play and mostly follow for RL content) but it might be worth thinking about the difference between the optimal time trial line vs the optimal race line. In real life and in many other games, the best racing line often isn't the absolute fastest line you can take around the track. One of the ways that happens in sims is through tire wear, but experienced racers also know how much time people lose by fighting back and forth for position. There are a lot of instances throughout the video where your solid line got messed up by another player drifting wide or bumping you and you lost a lot of time (particularly right at the start), so it might be worth playing with the idea of taking a non-optimal line sometimes. You could use that to store some extra turbo if the non-optimal is an extra long drift, for example. That would give you some space so you can fight harder in the latter half. I would imagine this varies a lot track to track as well. Nonetheless, congrats on Unreal!

What you said does make sense for the most arcade racing game like rocket racing. The best player always able to make it up and adjust accordingly even without the optimal race line. If other players were a tad bit slow than them and allow him to follow the optimal line without any interruption, they'll smoke 'em 99% of the time although rocket racing does have comeback mechanic (the drafting) so it might not be true in this case to a certain degree.

@@triggerfinger7831 Yeah hard to say the extent to which it might be useful, but I think no matter what it's highly situational. I could see some setups where it would make sense to fall behind the pack just a little in the first turn or first few turns and then use drafting and good lines to close the gap in the rest of the first lap and into the second, then you'd have extra boost in the third lap to win a drag race to the finish. As mentioned it probably only works well on certain tracks, and even then it wouldn't make sense to lose an optimal starting position to take advantage of it (for instance, if you get the 1st place start and really good starting boost, you probably wouldn't want to give that up most of the time).

@@CSpottsGaming the same thing is true for Mario Kart. i watch a lot of high level MK gameplay and i've noticed that you need to play based on how other people play. of course yoour goal will always be to take the most optimal time trial lines but that often ends up not being possible with the other players actively fighting against you. sometimes you have to go wide to avoid a bump, or miss a shortcut because there's something in the way, or follow a player with less optimised lines in order to either draft off them or mess them up so they fall behind. of course there are a million different strategies and ways to play racing games like these and it’s almost always situational depending on the map and the players

Congratulations for getting to Unreal Leth!!! Hi! I really want to give you a really good advice on a tech so you can try it out and see if it works for you, if you rocket drift to the opposite way of your current drift, the drift cancels completely and you get the boost of your drift, that way you don't have to wait until the car finishes straightening up to get the boost, or you can use it for abruptly changing directions for another drift/jump/etc while also getting the boost you had. This is specially useful for when either you are on a straight, or you don't have much space or time to make a drift boost, giving the car much more handling when desired, while getting those extra fast boosts on command and further charging the rocket boosts, giving you complete freedom of whether you want to finish your drift boosts. When trying it out, it seemed that it really made difference on how races are driven and gave the car much more depth (plus sometimes doing it feels like Crash Team Racing poweslide mechanics FTW), and it would be really cool if you tried this out. P.D. sssssorry for the kinda copy paste from my comment on a previous video, I really want you to see this 😅, congrats once again! It's so awesome seeing you climbing through the ranks! ❤

This game is fun but it is the most frustrating game I have ever played. The bumps, the random deaths, the drifts that dont finish sometimes, the 720s, the controller getting inverted when driving upside down, the weird collisions, the time for how long it takes to rank up, the obstacles that slow you down, the tracks that were not built for how the game is right now, the desync of cars just randomly hitting you and killing you. It needs so much work and hope they will fix it in a future, but god is it frustrating, surprised you didn't get even more tilted with all the deaths and bumps lol

So true. I’m 23% Champion atm and it’s just so frustrating when you get screwed over and lose 5%, undoing the past 30 mins you just spent to get it. I love the game but it just needs fixing .

Congrats Leth! I found out that when you finish a race and immediately look at the Rankings then it will show up! If you delay to look at the times of other players in the race even for a few seconds and then look and the ranking then it will show you that loading screen. TLDR look at the ranking immediately after a race.! Great video by the way!!! I'm currently at diamond 1 but I'm getting up there! I'll reach you one day!

Hey leth not played the game before but, was watching the boost meter and it looks like when you drive over the apex of the course into the non asphalted area it appears you do not receive boost for drifting. Might be a penalty space like how other racing games are. Great video!

At 14:31 - It looks like another car hits you, somehow knocking you off the track just before you hit the boost pad. When you slow it down you can see your passenger side tires off the track as you are over the pad. (Also I think it's funny the list on the left shows you at 5th when you finish instead of 7th.. it seems to only update every 1-2 seconds at most)

Just a tip if you don’t want to lose a ton of percentage, you can leave at ANY point in a race and not lose anything, although I do recommend playing until at least the third lap before leaving so you can get some practice and get a first next time.

Earliest ive been to a vid lol( i got a idea i commented but ill say agsin last time for a while) maybe make a custom rocket league map and bring a bunch of content creators into it like any map you what it can be airhockey inverted goals (idk how that would work). Imagine Leth using unreal editor for fortnite to create games of his own, right now is too early, but imagine in 5 years or so, there will be no limit to what you can create. Now there is a limit for what you can do. not much customization, like creating you own maps, characters, mechanics, animations.

By the way, I noticed after playing this game that hit boxes are weirdest s*** they seem bigger than the actual obstacles. Also, I think they should do some work so you can't just skip huge parts of the map by flying. I feel like it should encourage you to get on back on the track as fast as possible because it's still slower but you can skip massive parts of the track

um the players you said were afk could be afk but they most likely had this glitch where they were stuck on the rocket racing loading screen, (it happened to me today).

i really love this mode but once i hit diamond i cannot play this game everyone keeps bumping into me even on straight lines there are atleast 3 people who will bump onto me while turbo'ing and it triggers me so much i can't stand it
