Great job! The cool thing about doing these kind of projects is, you get to find out what works for what you want and what doesn't. That allows you to make adjustments for the next project or modify your current one without breaking the bank and paying a 3rd party to do it. I really like what you have done so far keep us updated for sure.

Dope!!! I love how switching to the flat bed allowed you to have so much customization and premade setups for different situations. I dig the heck out of this!!

I've followed your build for a long time and have taken some inspiration from it. Thank you for showing that you can still have a great build without spending the kind of money that some of the retail builds cost! Hope you and your neighbors make it through this storm okay, it looks pretty bad!

Cheap atf/gear oil also makes a decent cheap cutting oil, don't throw the old cans away! Mix em and use it up Another really good and strong way to mount the side brackets would be to use a riv nut or blind rivnut inserts and a dab or rtv if you frame is water tight

That is a awesome setup and exactly what I had a mind for my ram 2500. The main difference I want the ability to sleep sideways and have the opposite end for kitchen and counter space with the entrance door on the side allowing me to carry my klr 650 on a hitch carrier at the back. The propositions are right on to me, I wouldn't change the dimensions at all. Have you thought about making a tube connecting the hoop of the bumper down to the rock slider? Like on the Australian trucks. Great work man.

Great video and awesome rig! Your like me "working in the driveway with a headlamp"..is your wife always pissed off too? I made a 270 awning for my sxs using skateboard bearings copying your design, just on a much smaller scale. Sewed the top out of a tent fly. You truly have a great engineering mind and fabrication skills to back it up.. I thank you so much. If you make it to PNW overland this summer I'll see you!

I didnt see super well but You may want to revisit the inside corners of your headache rack brackets. Sharp corners are really liable to split. You want rounded corners on pieces like that.

For pins...just take the bolts and drill a hole in it for retaining pins. A pin is just a bold with no threads. But you do probably need small cotter pins so that the bolts dont walk out. and they woudl be a little easier to remove than bolts. You could tie a little length of 550 cord to the cotter pin to make it easier to remove. Never mind...wrote before I finished watching the vid. You have plans for the quasi-permanent verticals members. I think you were smart to change the the latching method. Those angle iron pieced just looked like they were ready to catch on your shins when you're standing in the bed. I'd keep the post of the headache rack and the two verticals in the back free of things that stick out from them. Lastly, the one thing you might consider is how can you do it without the two verticals at the back. Or how can you do it with those being removable. But you've had it a year and it hasn't been an issue, so maybe I'm over thinking it. You've inspired me for my truck. I gotta get the family through inflation and hopefully when prices come down a bit I'll have a little extra cash to get going on my truck.

I’m curious how long that blade lasts on that saw.
@OverlandUnderBudget
@OverlandUnderBudget Жыл бұрын
So it’s going to come down to number of cuts, and material that you are cutting. The saw I’m using isn’t for metal so it spins faster then a metal saw does and that also shortens blade life. All that considered if I use cutting wax on the blade I could do this project just about twice before the blade is dead. For the cost it’s so worth it compared to a angle grinder for me.
@hankimus10
@hankimus10 Жыл бұрын
@@OverlandUnderBudget I would agree. I use an angle grinder for the most part. I just wondered about the blade because I would love an evolution chop saw, but they are so darn expensive. I have a few wood saws, so
