I've always wanted to build a ute tray. After years of thinking about it I finally have a design and the tools and skills to make it happen.
I hope you have enjoyed this, I certainly did!
Cheers!
Josh.

Great job with the build! Love watching other guys sit there and stare at a project trying to figure out how they actually want to do something 😆. I am pretty jealous as an american that everyone else can buy hilux's and we cant. Had one as a company truck while working overseas and loved it.

I literally have seen countless build videos and this is the by far the most simple and straight forward build I have seen. If I was ever to build a tray for myself this is the the blueprint I would use. High side flaps have given me an idea about how to stow away more stuff in tray. Totally loved this video mate, also for the reason that you used gasless welder and used it very effectively. I hope that you get to use this and enjoy it for many moons to come.

Appreciate the comment mate, thankyou! Yes, I'm all about simplicity and finding the easiest way. Tray is going great, always a few things I would change if I did it again but all in all - I LOVE IT! Good luck with your build :)
@jimbartosevich498
@jimbartosevich498 Жыл бұрын
Simple? I disagree. I'm seeing this guy invest a ton of time, thought, and effort on aesthetics. That kind of attention to detail makes me consider it one of the more complex builds I've seen. It also makes me a bit sad that he started the video saying he did this in his spare time, cause that means he's not likely to manufacture this for anyone else.

One thing when mounting sideboards, after you’ve installed one side take that side and mount it on the other side. That way when your putting them back on they’re actually universal. Also I went through the catalogue at the auto parts store and used a 90 degree fuel hose and a piece of exhaust pipe for the diesel filler, cost me an extra $10 but it’s legal and piece of mind. Also hi flow fuel every time now.

Yeah i know it's a year on from this build but i just found it. Great job. Just a hint with the sides If you stand them up on the tray you can slide them straight onto the hinge pins welded to the tray. Saves holding them out and balancing them to get them on. Love ya work Cheers from Sydney's western suburbs mate. 🇭🇲👍🦘🍺🍺🍺🍺🦘👍🇭🇲

Great Job on your Tray! I to wish you had measured drawings. I have a Toyota Tacoma and think your Tray, what we call a flat bed here, would look Great on it. Some day I want to put one on it. For now I have a 5 foot truck bed on it which is very limiting.

Really great build, I'm definitely gonna steal your way of doing the tie rail with the cutouts and the pipe when I make my own. The high sides are a good idea too. Looks great, my only problem is with ally for the tread is it just gets beat up way too easy and it flexes and bends with a bit of weight. I used to drive a flatbed Hino with a full ally tray and that thing would bend til it was touching the tyres if the weight was too much to 1 side, not to mention all the scratches, holes, etc, just securing a steel load can permanently scar those things. You may get issues with rust due to galvanic corrosion as well (dissimilar metals fastened together without a sacrificial anode.) Still thats a mad build props to you.

Great vid man fun tidy good music. Jack knifed me crappy 6/4 short drawbar horrible trailer into the side of my 03 Rodeo duel cab today and said f this im ditching the tub back and the awful canopy asap for a basic flat bed with timber floor no way near your build just rough to get going cheap for my self employed recent venture so cheers i came here for ideas stoaked. Not sure if you have ever watched Ronald Finger but you would be our Aussie version and worth the big subs!

Thinking about doing this to my rig here in the US, and out of all the channels I’ve watched not ounce has anyone given praise to gassless welding. I don’t do gas mig welding because of the actual cost of a 100lbs bottle plus the cost of refilling it, and if you think about if flux core wire will do just fine, in fact my whole rig is built without using gas. Almost ten years and nothing has broke apart even with hauling 3500lbs loads rather frequently.
