Hi guys, and welcome back to yasminecollects! Today I am answering some of your questions asked in my community tab. A lot of people have asked me how I got into retro tech, so I figured I'd share a bit of my story and also some fun facts about myself. I got some super fun questions about laserdisc, my favorite music/movies and if I'd like to pursue a tech based career. Thank you to everyone who participated and shared your questions. I appreciate you the mostest!

People have always been into older stuff. I'm old enough to remember when people were into the 50's-60's nostalgia back in the 90's. And retro nostalgia goes way further back than that. It's not a "kid's today" internet age trend. Plus, it's enjoyable to see someone explore a new topic and finding information. Keep on doing what you're doing.

You mentioned your passion for repairing old animatronics or electronics in general. I don't know if you've ever come across Louis Rossman's videos? He started out with zero electronics knowledge, and just started repairing Apple pc's and phones, and ended up doing a brilliant business out of that, doing the jobs no one else wanted to do. You may want to look into that, he has like a gazillion tutorial videos and rants about all of that, very interesting story. And today it's all about sustainability, we can't afford to throw away stuff anymore because the planet has literally ran out of resources and raw materials, so we're all going to have to re-use our gadgets (that includes retro tech!) So - you might actually have a brilliant future unexpectedly, no one really saw this coming, but thats why I have a job today - I was a geek back in the 80s, and born way too early or way too late. Too late to have a life as an 50-80s repair tech for radio and tv, just about right for the computer revolution, so in a way "our time is now". Well I can see you're quite a bit younger than me, but you have the passion for the 80s era, music, movies, tech, gadgets. I think the reason for this is that you actually love the diversity. Everything today is basically either Apple or PC - and we own nothing, everything is streamed, nothing to collect anymore, nothing to cherish but film each other with camera phones, and we're getting increasingly censored and controlled with planned content. I think that may be why, and I'd certainly understand it. But I'm ranting now. So just wanted to give you a heads up on the fact that we're in more need of recycling older items than ever before, and it's not gonna stop, it's gonna blow up.

i'm so happy you're contiuning doing these videos, it's so cool to see somebody who's interested in the things that nobody else seems to make videos on!! it's also great as i also got a flip phone as inspiration from your videos, mine is the TCL GO Flip from UScellular, though I use mine on Freedom Mobile in Canada.

Great to see another video drop, your obviously genuine excitement for this stuff is what the love of retro is all about. Your enthusiasm is so infectious that it never fails to leave me with a smile on my face. Also really dig your hair and makeup, uniquely you but conjuring images of golden age Elizabeth Taylor, although I think you put out more Lauren Bacall vibes myself. Consider this old Brit’ a fan. Keep up the great work!

Hey, nice Q&A! I loved the story of how you got into old electronics - it makes me wonder about one more thing: are you also into vintage computers, or vacuum tube tech? Looks like I'll be sticking around :). You look fantastic and quite '80s, I love that aesthetic.

Thanks for sharing Yas It's always nice to hear about a tubers background, interests, reasons for doing what they do. Like you I'm not a big fan of the modern world lol. I plan on switching back to a dumb phone permanently next year. Sick of smartphones and how they are ruining society. Hope you had a great Christmas. Happy New Year in advance 🥃

So I did run with the Nokia 2780 then I went with the Schok Classic. The Nokia was way better at texting and a more stable OS. I got so frustrated when I had to send a text I went back to my iPhone. I missed being able to use Apple car play on my stereo also.

Haha yeah the texting is super annoying. I still use my iPhone sans data plan for maps and my downloaded Spotify songs. Basically like an iPod. No regrets!!

A lovely Q&A, Yasmine! Thanks for sharing so much information with everyone. As far as cassettes are concerned, you might be interested in watching a video (or two) from @CassetteComeback who has a following here over in Europe. The quality of quite a lot of his recordings might surprise you!

I just got into compact cassettes about a month or so, and I have been enjoying it a lot so far. Quality of the player definitely matters more on cassette and it does for cd.

@@YasmineCollects Happy New Year! Thanks for your reply. If you find a good **single** cassette deck with manual controls from the 1970s to the early 1990s, you won't be disappointed! Dual tape decks should be avoided. A machine from Sony, Teac or Technics might be good to start with and fairly easy to find.
