summarised points: 1. no heat 2. protect the ends of your hair (moisturise your ends) 3. use oil based products to seal the moisture in your hair (grease) 4. low manipulation hairstyles (braids, twists, cornrows, mini braids) scarves 5. moisturise your hair whilst it’s in the low manipulation hairstyles 6. don’t detangle hair with a brush. finger detangle to retain length and it’ll help you understand your hair (you’ll know if it’s dry or not) you’ll have less breakage, shrinkage and shedding 7. learn how to do your own hair 8. trim your hair on a timely basis 9. learn what your hair porosity is 10. incorporate treatments into your regimen (hot oil treatment) for healthy hair 11. LEAVE YOUR HAIR ALONE AND ITLL GROW 12. be patient and trust the process ✨watch the whole video though because she expands on all these points✨

I don’t know why people like to compare 4c hair to hair that dry, brittle, and head no curl pattern. That’s 4c when it’s not being taken care of properly. If your 4c is being moisturized and taken care of your curl pattern will be popping too. 4C HAIR IS NOT ALWAYS DRY. Educate yourselves!!

For those that are saying they’ve been natural for so long and their hair is the same length..she mentioned a MAJOR point. Moisturize those ends! Also knowing your porosity plays a huge role. Google is your best friend y’all. Knowing if you’re low or high porosity helps you choose the correct products to keep your hair moisturized. Also, don’t comb your hair when it’s dry. That’s like asking for major breakage.

I've done some research and tried so hard to figure out my hair porosity and at this point I think I'm medium porosity cause I have characteristics from both sides, but there are zero videos on how to properly care for it and what's good to do and what's bad to do for medium porosity hair. I'm not even fully sure if I'm medium porosity.

i’m 12 and i had heat damage a while ago. my mom told me to stop straightening my hair but i didn’t listen. and one time when i washed it and saw heat damage that’s when i stopped. i cut it, went natural and i started taking care of it! it’s more than 6 months later and this may not sound like a lot to some people, but my hair has grown almost 3 inches! i deep condition, pre poo, do a hot oil treatment, and finger detangle! you can’t tell my hair was ever heat damaged! my ends are happy, but i still watch these videos to make sure i’m doing everything ok! thanks for this video!

my mom got a perm on my hair when I was 6 cause she said it was hard to manage but it was still long cause she didn’t leave it in for a long time and it was still straight and damaged but when I was 10 she started to see that I was kinda upset that my hair wouldn’t curl up like the black little girls. I wanted a style with two braids and a puff on the top and I didn’t understand it at the time, so my mom opened up to me and told me that I’m not a natural and why I’m not. So she told me and I waited and then she cut my ends and now she’s helping me through my journey and I’m washing my own hair and doing protective hairstyles like scalp braids.individual,twist,and locs I’m 12 now and I think I inspired my mom to go natural and now my hair is back length and I use Jamaican castor oil,doo grow oil,wild growth,and Indian hemp I also have 4c/4b. I hope I inspired ppl who want to go natural and I hope you do cause you should not want damaged hair and spread this to others but you don’t have to if you don’t want I just want to help you guys out and inspire you guys and let y’all kno my story.

Lisa T I always dilute my Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie and spray it on my hair to make my hair soft before I comb through it and I still get some breakage. After I do that I hop in the shower and shampoo and deep condition my hair. After I rinse the deep condition off I do the LOC method on my hair and go on again with a comb. Idk I feel my need growth just breaks off or my hair is just not growing because it’s been the same length FOR SO LONG

Mya Trinice what is a good hair porosity test to use? I feel like the water method doesn’t work
@myatrinice6009
@myatrinice6009 4 жыл бұрын
Amy Vega if the water method doesn’t work for you , you can also try the strand test. You’ll need to have your hair freshly washed . All you have to do it take a small section of your hair , stretch it , and run your thumb and index finger together up your strands. If feels smooth then it is low porosity , if it feels rough then it’s high porosity. I did both the water and strand test and they showed that my hair is low porosity. Also if you were to try the water test again , do it on freshly washed semi-dry hair , I would recommend before you use conditioner for the best results.

4c hair youtubers: jenn jackson, craving yellow, protective princess, kandidkinks, from a to 4z, igbocurls, eugenia kelcy ....just a few. Yes 4c hair has varying appearances in high density and low density but they all have a very tiny curl pattern. The tiny curls, less than 2 millimeters wide, can only be seen clearly up close and personal. From a distance the hair only looks spongy not curly. It has this spongy look regardless of how moisturised the hair is. Because the curls or kinks are so tiny each 4c hair strand has many of them. Wetting 4c hair hence forms many hydrogen bonds with water which make the hair pull up unto itself resulting in the high shrinkage in 4c hair. Getting longer and having more 'hangtime' does not significantly affect the shrinkage and hence the appearance of 4c hair. It just looks longer. Just some realistic expectations so you dont get discouraged if your hair doesnt magically change into the texture of your favorite youtuber as it gets longer. Your hair will have the same appearance it had when it was short as it gets longer. The information on hair growth in the video is on point but reconsider put the term 4c hair in your title.

When I grew my 4c hair people were shock. This type of hair you really have to leave it alone. Back in 2014 I went natural. I started doing styles and trying be cute. I %100 agree with the finger detangling only advice. I used a Denman D41 brush for years and didn't even second think when I looked at all the hair that came out on the brush. It was really bad when my iron levels dropped. It was fine when my hair was super short but then years later I realized "Wait...this is breaking my hair off...what have I been doing?!?! This is a lot :(". I tried a tangle teaser and I had so many single strand knots it was crazy! I now use a wide tooth comb and I will transition into finger detangling only. I use to brush my hair till it glided thru. It caused so much breakage! I use to use hello Hydration but my hair felt weird after. I think its the coconut oil! So I use Herbal Essence Sleek and Shine Conditioner (My hair likes Argan Oil! [My mom even said thats the oil she used when I was a kid!!]) I bought the Palmers Olive Oil! Love trying new hair grease! My 4th hair journey (tried loc's twice, dyed my hair, texturizer alll fails!) , Im going back old school Hair grease, cholesterol, lusters pink moisturizer. etc) Love the video! Also I dont know how ppl spray there hair daily with water. I dont like that feeling and I dont wanna walk around with wet hair everyday. Thank you so much xoxo

Moisturizing hair with Water is more for Low Porosity Hair like mine since not a lot of moisture enters the hair and it needs more hydration than nutrition so if you have High Porosity the water won’t do nothing because the moisture will just leave easily but it is detrimental for Low Porosity since it’s the only moisture that really gets inside the hair so you won’t be needing to nurture your hair with oils that much. So more important than putting water in your head is using water based products for your hair depending on your Porosity because lotion is also water based or at least some of them depending if you have dry or oily skin

I believe I have found my true love 💖 Ms Natural Academia, you are the first person I know who does not like weaves as much as I don't and for that I just want to say thank you girl. You have no idea how much confidence that gives me. Now I have a few questions I'd like you to elaborate on: 1. When it comes to low manipulation hairstyles, do you braid your hair strictly with your own hair or do you add any foreign material to it? 2. When you say you don't use combs, are you saying that from 2016 to date , you never use anything to comb your hair but your hands? And lastly, if it's not asking for much, could you please do a video of yourself trimming your ends( when you trim them annually of course) because as a Black girl, I honestly don't know what that would look like or how to even do it. Again thank your so much for your channel

I think the porosity has something to do with it too. Which would explain why her hair looks how it does.

Her hair is beautiful, but it's not 4c. She has very visible O-shaped coils (4a) and wavy S and L shaped kinks (4b). 4c hair has coils so tiny you can't make them out. At this length a 4c girl's hair would just look like a fluffy, cottony cloud. You wouldn't see the kind of definition she has.

Exactly I'm so over this war with 4c hair, I think we should focus on the porosity too so we can understand that you can have 4c AND moisture. I hate how 4c people equate 4c to dryness so when they see moisturized 4c they get mad. This KZfaq has some big curls though but I also see the 4c coils in the back so everyone can really have different curls. Let's focus on moisture and locking it in with grease+water

About the water thing. Water is the ultinate moisturizer of hair. No other producr moisturizes hair unless it has water in it. So ur best products 4 moisturisation has a lot of water in it. Also, i think people pour water on their hair, then seal the moisture with oil-since oil doesnt acc moisturize hair but it keeps the moisture in. I think it might be the same with cream too. Water moistirizes our skin but the lotion is used to seal it in, but it feels like its more moist because its greasy. But i feel u. Also, ive been watching ur videos and ive noticed that ur hair definitely isnt 4c hair. It is type 4, but def not 4c. U shouldnt call it that cos they might get confused or even discouraged cos they'll wonder y their hair doesnt look like yours and do what urs does. 4c hair is a whole other level of curly, and is very different to the rest of rhe natural hair communitt is it is kinky and the curls arent defined at all. U cant see the curls very well because they r extremely small. So plz at least change the way u call your hair because it can be quite damaging to the natural hair community, mainly 4c girls looking for 4C role models, not 4a/b like u. No disrespect. Thanks for reading!

@Janiya Gowdy 4C HAIR ISN'T DEFINED. No matter how many curl defining products u apply it can't make 4c hair defined like THAT. 4c hair looks like a cloud;it looks like yarn. It isnt defined at all cos the coils r extremely small to the extent where it almost looks straight. Her hair is 4b and if not then its multi-textured.

When I was born my hair was natural but it never grew so my mum had to cut it so it grew but when I became 4 she relaxed my hair so I had relaxed for 7 years but when I became 9-10 years I always saw girls with curly, kinky, coily hair in the summer and since then I have just wanted to do have natural hair so last year 1 week after my birthday I decided to transition to natural hair. But 3 months later my mum relaxed my hair. But summer 2020 i did the big chop I hid for days so like 4 days later I told my mum and told her why she became a little angry at cus I never asked for permission, but she didnt care I was almost bald. By the way I also wanted to go natural just cuz the damage my hair was becoming shorter and shorter. Howsoever I have gon natural for 7 months now and Im still learning more about my hair☺️❤️👸🏾

@@janeakindele-abe6855 I don't like to assume people's hair pattern, but I don't think she has 4c hair, I could be wrong because she could have stretched her hair, but feel free to check out starpuppy on youtube or chizi is you would like to see what 4c hair looks like, or you can check out other videos on her channel to see her hair better, maybe a wash day video.

@@krystolwatkins9384 That's what I was trying to insinuate. I don't think she has 4C hair... That being said, I'm not the best with hair types. I don't even know mine because it's currently relaxed.

I think she does have 4c, she might have just styled it a bit. Or since her hair is waist length it might of coiled up to look like that, plus she said she has high porosity hair

When did you start doing the 8 braids? As a type 4 girl you know that *it sticks UP* how did you get your braids to NOT defy gravity while it was short?
@NaturalAcademia

When my hair was short, I did not do the eight braids lol I wore my hair in mini braids/twists. When my hair started getting longer and harder to manage, I began wearing the big braids (when my hair was mid back length)

Just subscribed! Girl you had me at the point of growth without treatment! I'm the same but will incorporate it as I too I'm health over length! Plus I'm high porosity too and been natural for most of my life though only started taking better care since 2017 and seen substantial length retention too! Gonna check out your other vids🥰
