How I overcome my writer limitations

Every writer has limitations, and here are my biggest two. The trick is knowing what they are, and then knowing how to remedy them. What do you must struggle with in your writing?

I struggle with action too, its always been one of my weak points!

I slip tenses and picking up grammar errors once I have written a story. But I will improve.

The struggles with writing action rings true! When I write action it’s often my least favourite passage when I read back. Maybe there's a bigger issue in terms of those big events in our heads as opposed to the more subtle scenes - having watched the Matrix series dozens of times, I know they are chock full of fighting and great scenes, but I can't remember so many now; however I can remember Neo meeting Morpheus, or being stuck in a train station for 15 years. Similarly I know I've read the Milllennium/Dragon Tattoo and LOTR trilogies, but I don't recall the best scenes - more the scenes advancing the characters and with tense dialogue. I much prefer reading/writing those, personally!

Absolutely! I feel exactly the same way about Game of Thrones. Most of my absolute favourite scenes are the tense and clever conversations between two adversaries. Dragons and swords are great fun, but for me they'll never be as memorable or as special as the character moments. That's why I'll always struggle to write action. But as long as we spend longer on the parts we're bad at, it's all good!

i am now at this point. the sequel will have two big fight scenes and i worry about how to describe it 😭

Fight scenes are so hard aren't they? I'd make a video on the topic, but I'm really not that great! Maybe one day, if I ever figure out a great way of crafting fight scenes, I'll make a video about how I did it.
